Studio shifts Lurhmann's 3D costume epic to summer of next year.

Ah that sucks! It's interesting, my friend actually is working on some extra shots for the film here in New York City, I'm hoping the quality of the film isn't in question. I was excited to see it this Christmas, and it seems like much more of a holiday release than summer to me. Oh well.

Somebody had to flinch. There's a LOT of awesome crammed into Oct-Dec.

Also, last I checked, arent they shoving this into IMAX as well? Seeing as the local IMAX theater makes idiot decisions when there's more than one flick to display in the format (I will never forget being forced to shlep an hour away to see Watchmen when they decided not to run it for unknown reasons), Im cool with the delay.

Two words: massive re-writes.

Nah, I think this will be released intact without much (if any) tinkering.  December (and the latter part of the year in general) is just too packed:  The Hobbit Part One, Les Miserables, Django Unchained, This Is 40, Jack Reacher, Zero Dark Thirty, and a truckload of awards-hopefuls.  While I'm sure it would have gotten the critical and awards attention they are hoping for, it might not have done as well financially as it needs to be a success.

That said, here is the current line-up for May 2013:  Iron Man 3, The Hangover 3, Fast 6, and Star Trek 2.  Counter-programming, I guess?

Release dates aside, I'm just amazed Gatsby ever got the green light.

A drama with a budget of $150 million.  I love that it got made and I'm definitely anticipating it, but I'm still surprised the studio said yes.

Out of that line-up, GATSBY might seem like a fresh breath of non-franchise air.

Or it gets run down like Myrtle Wilson.   #spoiler?

If they release it in the middle of the month, it could do very well and would really only be up against Star Trek.

Count me as a skeptic as to why The F Scott FItzgerald novels needs a huge budget, 3D and Imax/

I am not a Luhrmann hater,I very much liked  "Strictly Ballroom" and "Moulin Rouge"  but I have always thought that the over the top, campy, gliztzy style he cannot seem to get away from was a horrible mistach for "The Great Gatsby".

And, judging from the bad response the first trailer got, I was not alone.
