Perhaps you're lucky enough to have weaned yourself from the horrible Entertainment Weekly teat, and were unaware of their recent Fall Movie Preview (likely the best argument for keeping my subscription active). I've long expected this to be a very strong fall for movies, and seeing them laid out in order confirms this with a vengeance. For the benefit of all without the accursed rag, here are the noteworthy releases:

There's at least a dozen must see movies there, although I imagine I'll see twice that many.

My personal most anticipated:

Django Unchained

The Hobbit

The Master

Killing Them Softly

Seven Psychopaths

Cloud Atlas is the runner up, because good or bad, it's going to be something else.

Can't wait for the fall. This will probably be the most I've gone to theaters since '07. My most anticipated:

The Master

Cloud Atlas

Looper

Django Unchained

Lincoln

Killing Me Softly

and... Finding Nemo 3D. I usually don't care about 3D, but I love Nemo and didn't see it in the theater.

I can hardly believe they're releasing Skyfall on the same day as Lincoln!

Certainly looks to be one helluva fall. Though something feels a bit off.

Hmmm. Seems like a fairly large gap there in between "noteworthy" releases. Surely there must be something in between those dates that is worthy of note?

EW obviously does not consider UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: DAY OF RECKONING noteworthy. Shame on them.

Some Nic Cage / John Cusack crapfest is also released then.

Yeah, for me at least September through December sure as hell are more interesting to me than May through August, as cool as as a few films are during that span. I think I've felt that way for the past few years... blame my oddball tastes for that. However, this summer especially has been barren for me aside from some films.

Someone I know has a subscription to EW so I was able to go through it last night. Here's what I plan on seeing, at least as of right now, and that's even without the understandably moved Gangster Squad:

Dredd 3D

Django Unchained

Paranormal Activity 4 (so sue me; I still enjoy the franchise)

Skyfall

Taken 2

The Man With The Iron Fists, if only for the oddball factor of it

If it comes to Orlando, Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning; and this was briefly mentioned in EW as coming out in November

Zero Dark Thirty

If anything else pops up then I'll be happy to see it, depending on such things as buzz, here and elsewhere.

And it just misses the mark but coming out on the 29th this month is Lawless. I literally am not sure if I had heard of the film before I saw it heavily advertised on the latest UFC pay per view, but the Prohibition rural drama certainly looks promising and the main people in the cast are promising in Hardy, Oldman, and Pearce. The guy who played Sam Witwicky and Mutt also being a main cast member doesn't inspire much confidence but I hope he's at least fine.

I want to see almost all of the films listed in the originating post, but I know the ones I'm most excited for-- Django UnchainedThe MasterThe HobbitLooper, and The Man With the Iron Fists-- based on how willing I am to take vacation days off at work to attend press screenings for them if absolutely necessary.

Django Unchained and Skyfall are what I'm really psyched for. I'll probably see Paranormal Activity 4. The trailer wasn't anything special, but I enjoyed the first three enough to still want to see the new one.

The weekend after Thanksgiving is usually a slow as hell time at the box office (due to Black Friday/weekend sales), hence, studios usually don't release anything in that timeframe.

That's true of the major studios. But the smaller artsy, groundbreaking, and innovative studios often will use that weekend as a chance to spotlight a film from an emerging director. I look forward to seeing what sort of alternative independent offering will be available that weekend.

There's probably some platformed releases out that week too. Maybe Pi comes to the small markets.

BoxOffice.com shows a horror film called The Collection opening on the 30th as well.

I looked up what The Collection was, and I just about shrieked in horror; it's a sequel to The Collector! Yes, the 2009 film that was terrible aside from that nice sex scene with a topless Madeline Zima.

From what it says on IMDb, some mercenaries will go after The Collector, but I still don't have high hopes for it, despite this being the first time I had ever heard there was going to be a sequel to the movie.

Holy shit, a sequel to The Collector.

Anyway, I heard fourth quarter '12 was the time for BIRDEMIC 3D. Please don't let me down, guys.

No one interested in Silent Hill: Revelation 3D? I liked the first one.

According to EW, that weekend's only releases are the new Universal Soldier film and The Collection. Meaning Red Dawn might just get seen after all, fucking Red Dawn.

The Master is sort of eclipsing everything else to me right now. I can't remember the last time I've been so excited for a film. But damn that's a lot of good on that list.
