Saw the commercial during the FX comedy lineup thursday. Man I am excited about the new season and am so glad they went the anthology route. This show was my most pleasant surprise last season....wonder if it will meet expectations this season or fall victim to the sophmore slump.

Glad to see Jessica Lange back. I wonder if she will be playing another incarnation of the same character or an entirely unrelated one. I like the idea of all these stories existing in the same universe, so here is hoping that it is the former.

Playing a nun I think it will be very different.  I'm thinking a more quiet evil.

I think Lange will be the the character who stays in all seasons of this show.  Hope Quinto will be in all seasons too.  The young maid as well.

S1 comes out on Blu Sept 25th.

Season two will have a suspect Nazi doctor and aliens. This season could actually be weirder!

Good. I have a minimum amount of batshittery I expect from AHS. If the threshold is not met, I am outta here.

So the premier was last night and it shows some promise.   Especially like the sci-fi angle that was set up with the mad scientist.   One thing I do wish is that the cinematography and editing of the 1964 stuff had more of the feel of a 70's horror movie.   Still, I'm digging the new season alot and Jessica Lang is once again aces.   Anyone else catch this?

I liked it. Although I'm disappointed in the occasional flashes of storytelling competence that kept popping up. Still, it's got more than enough elements to make sure this thing flies off the rails at some point.

The aliens look promising in this regard, as does Lily Rabe's idiot nun, who I'm betting ends up being a closet pain fetishist. I mean, if not, what the fuck are they doing here? James Cromwell also seems to have correctly identified what kind of show he's in. And strange as it might seem that Lange's sexually repressed, cruelly manipulative nun offers her less opportunities for camp than last year's blowsy, faded southern belle, it's hardly without potential in this regard.

I hope there's enough weird nudity, and it looks like there will be.

My thoughts as the final credits came up: "It's truly a great time in television to be a horror fan."   wink.gif

Now, when will the maid show up to clean that asylum?

Lange v Cromwell = worth the price of admission.

And... is this the first instance of completely bare lady-ass in FX history? Even the porn stars in Sons of Anarchy wear G-strings. There's been plenty of man-ass over the years on their various shows, so it's nice to see them embrace gender equality at long last.

Jessica Lange as a nun with a facelift, Aliens, a bloody faced immortal killer, implanted spider neck robots, the singer of Maroon 5 licking his hand before gettin' it on with his lady ... This is as batshit as TV gets. I'm still not sure it's good, but it's hard to look away from it.

I'm missing the relative stability of Connie Britton's performance, but otherwise I enjoyed the hell out of the premiere.  Looks like another juicy, scenery-munching turn for Lange.

James Cromwell has never been creepier.  "Show me your mossy bank."    Ewwwwwww.

Is this the most amount of female nudity in a basic cable show?  Sure seems like it.

I'm looking forward to the adventures of the possessed nun. On American Horror Story, just like Buffy the Vampire Slayer before it, being in love leads to death.

I'm too busy enjoying to keep tabs.

Speaking of, amazing "Grace", indeed!

3 femimoons.

I did not count the number of masculoins... 1?

I'm totally digging this show, Cromwell is great and I'm looking forward to seeing whatever batshit things are coming this season.

They really are smashing the old rules; nudity on basic cable always translated to "man ass".

A promissing start.....Jessica getting her Ratchet on, elctroshock, demon, prisoner, pervy old creep in charge etc.....but so far it has staid within the lines.

The thing about last season is that they kept throwing new balls in the air, like some insane juggler...and none really hit the floor...in fact they tied together into a coherant ending for the most part. I hope this season they can do the same thing.

Well, even with everything they added last year there was a sort of focus (the house).  This year they're throwing everything humanly possible at us.  It's absolutely bonkers right now.

I think Bloody Face is the most terrifying slasher/killer I have seen in years. He looked exactly as I imagined he'd look, and it still gave me the willies.

This show is awesome. I was late to the party with the first season but I’m enjoying this season a lot. Aliens, serial killers, possessed nuns, Dr. James Cromwell and his murderous mutants in the garden – it’s batshit crazy and yet somehow wonderful.

Man, they aren't planning on reigning in the crazy all season long are they?  So now we have potentially Nazi doctor thrown into the mix, forced amputation, I'm assuming that those things in the forest are mutants who he is giving a taste for human flesh?

It seems like the demon's main plan right now is to get Lange committed to the institution she's currently running.

The lipstick on the virgin Mary thing was so bizarre, even for this show.

So in modern times there were 3 guys dressing up as Bloody Face just to scare people who come to the asylum?  And one of those 3 got stabbed to death so one of the remaining dudes shot the honeymooners?  I'll just assume they have a reason to give us these tiny morsels of what's happening in modern times as it really doesn't seem to have anything to do with the main story yet.

I am completely in love with the non-stop scenery chewing from Cromwell.  He is making the show this season for me so far.

So it appears the crazy nonsense is back. I'm really enjoying the modern day stuff right now, that's got some of the old (crazy) stuff in it. The couple gets killed by two Bloody Faces who were apparently thrill kill teenagers. And then a third Bloody Face shows up, presumably to kill the fake Bloody Faces. I hope this serial killer is in turn killed by a demon, who is then killed by a stronger demon, and so on all season.

James Cromwell is fucking awesome on this. He's crushing it. And Lange's drunken spiteful monologue to a room full of a inmates is the stuff of gay camp nirvana.

Pretty sure there were 3 thrill seeker teenagers.  The guy that shot them said something about how they had to pay for stabbing Jimmy (or some other random name).  I assumed that was the other Bloody Face they'd left bleeding in the room.

They were both surprised that the dude's arm was ripped off, so I assumed that was the new serial killer. Who cares, the important thing is that the batshit is back.

batshit for the win, the speed at which crazy new plot developments occur is unreal......dont ever change AMS.

I'll admit, the scene with the nun and the old mexican lady in her room? That disturbed me.

I never thought the first season was that scary. I just enjoyed all the craziness. This season, however, is bringing it's "A" game in full on horror.

It looks like the possessed nun is trying to bring down the asylum from the inside.

I would thenk the devil/demon loves the asylum and isn't trying to take it down.  It wants to cause havoc.

Anne Frank.  Of course.  As long as you're bringing in Nazis you may as well have the adult Anne Frank in your asylum.

I still have no earthly idea what direction they're heading this season but I do enjoy sitting back and watching the crazy.

According to EW the young Arden/Gruber was played by Cromwell's son.  That helps to explain things because I was really trying to figure out how they'd had the budget to de-age Cromwell so convincingly.

I figured that had to be his son because he looked too much alike.  Curious if they have a big name for the Nazi Hunter.

I just hope the alien stuff has a great payoff.

Is Cromwell's Nazi name actually Hans Gruber or did I mishear Anne Frank? Because if so, that's totally awesome and something only this show could get away with.

It is.  Although Dr. Arden is from Scottsdale.

I thought I heard her say Hans *Cooper*, but, y'know, close enough.  I continue to love this show and all of its batshit insanity.  And that de-lesbianization scene was one of the most uncomfortable things they've done.

The last 4 episodes of last season left me in awe of this show. This season has matched the crazyness and then some. Though last season I found a great deal interesting in the married relationship, there was some real shit happening there. This season is more camp, but that is ok, I am still enjoying the hell out of it.

In the absence of a truly excellent Breaking Bad level show to watch this fall (I don't get Showtime), I'm surprised to acknowledge that this is currently my favorite weekly program. It's been a lot of fun, and bringing Anne Frank in was a delight!

Poor Chloe Sevigny. I guess she's down for whatever.

I love James Cromwell on this, but I've got a feeling he's due for an early exit, say around the halfway point of the season.

I just adore how it goes from something as hilarious as adult Anne Frank warning people about Hans Gruber one minute to something as genuinely horrific and uncomfortable as the scene with Lana and the doctor trying to 'cure' her with aversion therapy.

Did anyone else twig they were going to do a Haute Tension/Switchblade Romance with Grace as well? I figured it had to either be that or she's actually a fucking werewolf or something.

Just about the only thing missing from this season thus far....

Is anyone else getting a Bene Gesserit sort of vibe from the Monsignor and Gruber (attempting to engineer the messiah)? I am also getting a little bit of The Tommyknockers from the alien sub-plot.

Not as emotionally invested with the characters this season.

It should have been Addy that Lange hit with her car. Seriously.

I'm surprised they didn't have a role for the Downs Syndrome chick from last year. Lange could have hit her with the car, at minimum.

Hitting "Addie" (Jamie Brewer) with the car would have been a touch too cute and on the nose. It would have taken me out of the story a bit.

Hans Gruber. Bless this stupid show.

They're not fucking around anymore.  Between Mutant Sevigny's crawl up the stairs, Anne Frank's Stepfordization and Dr. Threadsen's lampshade collection, they definitely brought the horror this week.  I guess Sister Jude is going to be our default heroine at this point.

This season's batshit craziness is rocking my socks off.

I want a lampshade with nipples!

Ah, it's Hans Gruper. Whew, good. For a second I thought this show might be ridiculous.

I had a weird feeling when Kit was giving his confession on tape.  When Thedson and Lana walked into the house I was pissed at myself for not even thinking the doc was the killer.  The nipple lampshade is awesome.  Since this show doesn't do happy endings I'm wondering how much of Lana's torture we'll see.  Maybe she'll pull a Saw and cut her own foot off.

Wonder what the Devil's endgame is.  No way Shelley make it to the school crawling.  She had to be put there.  Can she even be identified at this point?

The monsinor has been of a waste.  He's gotta come hard the final few episodes or casting Joseph Fiennes was a let down.

Is it?  EW has been saying Hans Gruber for the last 2 weeks in everything they write about the show.

After Agent Z called me out for being a big deaf dummy, I did some research, and Wikipedia and other reviews I've read say Gruper.

OK, Dr Threadsen is going to try to 'cure' Lana of her lesbianism. Sister Jude wanted to be 'cured' of her alcoholism. Dr. Arden seems to desire 'curing' whores. An asylum was how we would 'cure' insanity. Might the Monsignor (through Gruper) be attempting to 'cure' humanity of evil? The Devil (if in fact it is the Devil) would want to 'cure' Christianity.
The aliens, what are they trying to 'cure'?
