Eh, tired of these forest mutants.

I'd never count this show out for crazy ideas, but losing Sister Mary and Arden this early is not how I would have played it. Is Thredson in charge now or something? Is the Devil in Fiennes, and why would we want that?

The angel of death said she was taking both of them so if the demon changed bodies again they're cheating us.

I'm kind of hoping the asylum just spirals into chaos.  Two dead authority figures, the monsignor shaken in his faith and Thredson having his own agenda is certainly the kind of things that could lead to anarchy.

Really curious to see what happens to Thredson if he actually does try to harm the baby.  Seems likely at this point that he ends up strapped down on the alien ship getting cut to pieces by the end.

Well, they did reveal that the world knows who Bloodyface is/was. Unless they've got some crazy twist to change up the thus-far pointless fast forwards.

McDermott could actually be Kit and Grace's baby, that's the only twist that maybe makes sense at this point (...but who knows what they could roll out down the road)

EDIT - OR MAYBE Thredson is in some asylum/dying at the season finale and having some fantasy flash-forwards about his legacy. Yeah, that one would be classic AHS misdirection.

Yeah, I was watching it going "wow, this so tonally off from pretty much EVERYTHING ELSE EVER IN THE SERIES"....but being that it's AHS, I just shrugged and went with it. 

I was actually kinda disappointed at the end that it was only a fantasy sequence. 

Those creatures can't all be dead.  Something ripped Maroon 5's arm off.  That wasn't entirely human.  So I'm thinking someone like Thredson has to be alive and continuing Arden's legacy.  Little Bloody face and his poppa will meet in the future.

Then again this is Ryan Murphy.  He has the attention span of a chihuahua and probably forgot what he did in the first episode.

 The last episode disappointed me a bit. MaryDevil, Dr Arden and the mutants where dispatched too easily. The real Mary gaining control long enough to be pushed is cliched writing. I wanted Jude and her to have an epic battle.

To be fair, this season had a HELL of a lot of balls in the air. It's only common sense that some had to be eliminated sooner than others....still, I agree that while Dr Arden and the forest mutants won't be missed THAT much (they weren't really all that key to the plot, they were just...there), I AM going to miss Lily Rabe as MaryDevil. 

She was awesome!

Yeah, that last scene with Fiennes and Rabe could have used a rewrite. It felt kinda like the devil just rolled over for them. 

I like Quinto, but Thredson has been less interesting than MaryDevil and Arden, that's for sure. Ah, well. Almost done anyway.

Got to looking up Lily Rabe on IMDB-her mom is Jill Clayburgh(worked with Sarah Paulson on a tv series) and her dad wrote the screenplay for The Firm and wrtote the play/movie Hurlyburly.

David Rabe is legitimately awesome. Hurlyburly is one of the better American plays of the last century, for real. Gonna be getting produced a hundred years from now.

I got to see Lily Rabe on Broadway with Alan Rickman (...and Jerry O'Connell) last year. She was good. She got naked.

Was O'Connell up to the task?

In that particular scene, it was Rickman who was up to the task.

Or, you mean as an actor? Yeah, O'Connell was fine.

That's another reason to be disappointed: now we'll never know who would win in a fight between the Devil and aliens. 

Seriously though, they didn't have to treat these as separate story lines: they were all coming together quite nicely! Heck, Threadson was about to join Sister Mary Devil's team, meaning we'd have an alliance between a serial killer, a nazi scientist and a devil-possessed nun versus an alien threat! With Ian McShane's deranged Santa still on the loose and-

Gosh, you know what? I think I really, really love this show. I think I just love the fact that this show ACTUALLY EXISTS. 

.. and then there's Death wandering in and out of the story as well. Yeah, this is something of a kitchen-sink show. Got to love it!

I could be wrong, but I think I just heard the Phillip Glass "Candyman" soundtrack on tonight's episode.

Next week on AMERICAN HORROR STORY:  "We Need To Talk About Lil' Bloodyface."

That had to be the most thankless credit appearance Clea Devall has ever had.  

I assumed that Grace's baby would meet up with Bloodyface in the present.  Where does the third alien baby fit into this plan?

I absolutely hated the pacing of this episode.  For a show that's been a slow burn for most of the season it's pretty much a grease fire the last couple of episodes.  It's like they're killing off every plot line they're bored with to clear the stage for the one that interests them most.  The random jumps forward in time were jarring, and there often weren't enough clues to have a good idea how much time had lapsed.

Anyone want to take bets that the mutant thing that ripped off Adam Levine's arm in the present day is The Monsignor?

It was definitely a mistake to end each plot line separately. I was looking forward to a climax that somehow involved Bloodyface, Dr. Arden, Sister Mary Devil and the aliens. Then again, a couple episode left, so who knows what could happen? But during "The Name Game" when the status quo became "An asylum run by the devil who has a Nazi and a serial killer in her employ but has no idea about the aliens"....that's a status quo I could've lived with for a couple of episodes. 

So wait.   Was that just a fancy transition to the present or is Bloodyface Jr. a time traveller now?    If so, I have a theory Dr. Arden is somehow still alive and he invented time travel.   One thing I'm really digging is how unpredictable this show is.  I literally have no idea where this show is headed next.

Old Lana, old Kit and really old Jude vs Bloodyface Jr next week?  I can get behind that finale.  

This was an absolutely fantastic episode, and really threw me for some loops....well-earned, I might add.

The change in Lana's character, or perhaps the reintroduction of it, was tough to take, but perfectly reasonable.

I don't know what I was expecting with two episodes to go, but I wasn't in for the stakes being raised even higher.

Is the finale going to be an extended two-hour affair...or am I just holding out hope?

I looked at the shot again and yeah it was probably just a clumsy transition but the shot was unbroken from Kit pulling out to Bloodyface Jr. sitting in his car.   My crazy prediction?   Bloodyface Jr. is killed off in the first 5 minutes and the big bad is the Monsignor who is now likely the Pope-and possesed by the devil because why not?

Oh, and also....aliens.

People enjoyed this episode?  I can't believe how quickly this show has changed from "can't wait to see what they do next!" to "Well, only 1 episode left so I guess I might as well watch it."

I can't even comprehend people saying they were raising the stakes with this episode.  The last 3 episodes have been clumsy, and poorly paced, and ultimately haven't added much to the story (at the cost of much more interesting story lines).  3 episodes ago kind of gets a pass because of the Name Game being so great, but that was the beginning of a trend on this show that I just haven't cared for.  Wrapping up the good stuff so that we're left with nothing but aliens (the worst of their storylines this season) and Bloodyface Jr (meh).

I feel like they think they're making some deep statement about mental health care in the US through the years, but I also feel like they're wrong.

These last two episodes were really bad.  THey should have added a few more psychos like Ian McShane to strech out the season.  THe world outside of Briarcliff isn't fun and I don't care.

Hopefully they stun me with a great ending.  Killing everyone off would be a great start.

I cannot wait for the terrible old age make up that's sure to appear next week.

It seems that based on the previews, the old-age make-up looks unconvincing because it doesn't go far enough.  Looks like a few age lines and some "gaunt-ification".  Not sure if I prefer artists go nuts or go too subtle for old-age make-up...

Kit just can't get a break.

 It seemed like the show was wrapping up its story lines to quickly, but I like that it has added new story lines to finish the season.

Will we get to see Maroon 5 guy take more of a beating?  That would be great.

How many of you think about the concept of romance in AHS Season 3 as the creator 'Ryan Murphy' claims to have said so? Wouldn't it be weird? I wouldn't mind seeing Justin Bieber or Adam Levine be shredded or sliced in the new season.  

I have to concur that the best thing this show ever has going for it is momentum rather than weird shocks. They're the spice that ties it all together, but without the momentum of the midseason, it's been lacking a bit since. Still, I do like the closed loop stories, and I'm certainly down for whatever they've got on deck. I'll be impressed if the finale is strong, because I kind of don't expect it at this point.

We had the juggler analogy when so many plot lines were coming at us at the beginning of the season, but I can't help but feel we were watching the juggler with a chainsaw, a torch, a bowling ball and a couple of tennis balls going to town but that juggler professionally laid down all the dangerous props and we're left watching a guy lob a few tennis balls around and we're supposed to be as interested as we were before.  I can't decide if they did themselves a disservice by trying to keep so many plot lines running, or they did themselves a disservice by resolving some of the plot lines too early to clear the way for the last few, but they definitely did themselves a disservice.

Too true. I was looking forward to a Sister Mary Devil-Jude-Lana-Kit-Dr. Arden-Threadson-Alien confrontation, would've made for an explosive finale. 

Then again, Jessica Lange really is KILLING it. I showed a friend the entire season up to this point, and her journey...holy shit. 

I'm still mad about Dr. Arden going out, not just because it was too early, but because he went out on his own terms. Mother fucker deserved to have some past misdeed catch up to him. 

Then again...one could argue that an even greater punishment for true evil is to let them wallow in their own miserable existence before finally succumbing. And a Nazi burning himself to death in an oven? Okay, Ryan Murphy, I'll give you that...still...have Shellie come back as the SUPER MUTANT. 

Having a three-episode epilogue is certainly a weird choice, but I'm still enjoying it. If the finale manages to to feel resonant and earned, it'll smooth over any rough/slow spots for me.

No, you're not wrong.  My daughter was watching this and I heard the music.  Such a beautiful score, one of my all time favorites.  I don't really watch the show so I don't know if it worked or not, but I was certainly surprised to hear it outside of Candyman. 

I've recorded all of the shows and am watching them for the first time. I just watched the 1st show. Creepy. Shows promise.

There's a slow, rhythmic piece of music they used twice this episode and I was trying to place it. I looked in the end credits to identify it, no luck.

Then it struck me...Brian DePalma's CARRIE...the build up to the pig blood dump. Am I right? I don't have a copy of Carrie to compare.
