From the Robert Englund interview:
Okay, I have to admit, I'm jazzed about this idea. As some of you know, I'm a big fan of the old Universal Horrors, which pioneered the "crossover" monster flicks with movies like "Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man," "House of Dracula/Frankenstein," and for my money the funniest horror movie ever made, "Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein."
What strikes me is that in that last flick listed, Dracula (Lugosi) is an intelligent, ruthless, seductive mastermind who reanimates the Frankenstein Monster (an emotionless, unstoppable killing machine...ringing any bells?) in order to complete some evil plan or other. A&B get in the way, with Lon Chaney's Wolf Man rounding out the heroic trio (although he's not all good--he's just as likely to take a bite out of Lou as he is Dracula), and hilarity ensues.
Anyway, that little bit about Freddy manipulating Jason and gradually losing control sounds great to me, like a throwback to the old crossovers. I still think Kane is the sentimental choice for Jason, and I'm disappointed he's not it (or is he?), but the plotting makes it sound like it might be fun.
Then again, it could suck the charge right out of Frankie's neck-mounted battery posts.
Thoughts?

| "My [current] script dates back to July and boy, it's a good script. It has the one thing that I felt it had to have - we have to get into Jason's nightmares. Whatever's going on, whatever remains of his synapse and psyche, we have to get into that. And they really exploit that in this. There's also a wonderful set piece at a rave that's just an amazing, amazing sequence...Freddy needs Jason. He manipulates him, and then it all starts to fray at the edge. We've really returned to core Freddy in this one. It wouldn't be Freddy if he didn't crack some jokes, and he does in 'Freddy vs. Jason,' but they're a little meaner [and] kind of politically incorrect" |
