While hardly a comedy, I think Mr. Oswalt’s analysis can just as easily be applied to Nicholas Sparks films, the latest being Safe Haven – with Josh Duhamel and Julianne Hough in the same recycled roles Sparks has been floating since A Walk to Remember. The film’s directed by Lars Hallström (The Cider House Rules), who has to be wondering if this is some sort of punishment for sins committed in a past life. I’m half-hoping the Safe Haven hashtag burning a hole in the bottom right hand of the embedded screen isn’t just a Twitter advertisement, but a legit directorial choice that Hallström saw fit to grace his entire film with:
