Justified - Season 4

this might be a little premature but this teaser was shown during SoA last night.

ALSO...Timothy Olyphant is going to be a guest on "The League"

I was positively GIDDY when that teaser aired - had that great thing of thinking "waitaminute...this is for  _______!!!!" a second before the title comes up.  It feels like Justified just went off the air a few weeks ago, but I immediately realized I had missed it terribly.

Here's hoping for the Rise of Wynn Duffy in S4.

Yeah, I bought seasons 1 and 2 on Amazon Instant Video and need to watch them again. Unfortunately I just recorded season 3 on my TiVo (since I am currently paying for cable) and deleted it a while back to make space. I'm already missing it.

It's great when this and Archer come back in January.

For what it's worth, also looking forward to Olyphant on The League this week.  Dude's way funnier than he gets credit for.  His reaction after disarming Quarles in the finale may have been the funniest thing on TV all of last year.

Timothy Olyphant was on Conan a couple weeks ago.

He's got a really dry, warped sense of humor.

I have to ask. What could possibly take priority over JUSTIFIED, especially after the astounding second season?

Nothing particularly important. Whatever TV shows were on in the spring and have probably already been deleted. There aren't too many things I leave on my TiVo once I'm done watching a season of. For the highly serial shows I'll often try to save up a whole or half season's worth before watching. That's what I've done with Walking Dead, Mad Men, Hell on Wheels, Breaking Bad, etc.

I'm most excited for the addition of Patton Oswalt this season. Knowing how big a fan he is of the show, I'm sure it'll be something special.

I keep misreading that as Will Patton. Now he would fit right in.

these popped up on Patton's twitter feed during the last debate...

-Sweet Cthulhu, Timothy Oliphant is a handsome man.

-I might not be able to live Tweet the debate. I really want to, but today my heart (and time) belong to JUSTIFIED. Stay tuned...

-Yeah, definitely can't Tweet the debate. On the bright side, I'm getting to do awesome stuff on JUSTIFIED.

-The scene I just filmed on JUSTIFIED is worth me missing the debate.

-I missed you all tonight for the debate. Even though it's not in the script, I'm asking Timothy Olyphant to pistol-whip me.

January 8

There was a new commercial last night during IASIP. Haven't been able to find it online yet.

Yeah, looks like (SPOILERS!) Boyd still has wild hair and Raylan is still banging the bartender.  Can't wait.

Is Oswalt the only big guest addition this season?  I don't remember reading about anyone else.

Both welcome developments.

questionable quality...

You bet your ass there's gonna be "some gunplay involved."

WOOOO!

Six days to go!

And just a heads up that the show will be getting front-page love this season. I'll be writing episode reviews starting next week.

little taste of Tim and Patton

Tonight, bitches! So stoked for some good tv.

Fuck yeah.  Shotgunning my way through Season 3, don't think I'll be done before tonight, though.

This episode is on fire. Hilarious and engaging. Loved Cruise, but got an awesome Jack Reacher vibe off of Eldard.

Boyd Crowder being a major Isaac Asimov-devotee.

Seriously did not see that one coming. Fucking love this show.

If you do NOT enjoy Patton on this then fuck you.  He's about 7% broader than Justified tends to go, but who cares?  He's a hoot.

Nice set-up for the season, going into a season-long mystery.  I wonder if they'll do a Big Bad this season or if life, the universe and everything is the Big Bad.

Is that the first female nudity on the show?  Was pleasantly unexpected.

Patton stabbing that girl in the foot is one of the funniest things the show has done. Also, the smile on that guy's face after the girl flashed him, then his nonchalant "she flashed me her titties and ran out the back" made it even funnier. So happy this show is back, and seemingly heading in a whole new direction.

I haven't seen the episode yet, but I saw a screen cap of a scene with a gentleman holding a snake.  He looked just like the kid from Jurassic Park.  Was it him?

I would point to Dewey Crowe before even saying he's even that much broader.

I have to think the buttcrack in the opening was the result of some FX exec saying "look, we're paying the Brief Nudity rating in this slot, so give us some GODDAMN BRIEF NUDITY."

And yep, JP kid looks to be the most likely Big Bad at this point.

THUD REVIEW: JUSTIFIED -- "HOLE IN THE WALL" (EPIODE 4.01)

Great opener ... and likely one of Justified's funniest episodes ever.

Timothy Olyphant did a good interview over on The Nerdist podcast. Lots of great Deadwood talk.

I missed the Asimov quote. What was it? Need to get a copy and watch it again.

I gotta say he stuck out like a sore thumb, and I do like him in general.

Then fuck you.

Kidding.  Yeah, he's broad, but he feels Leonard broad, and thus I had no problems with him.  I think he'll be a love or hate type of character, but I for one loved him.  Some great lines and Patton did a good job, too.

Also, Raylan's new squeeze gets some good lines, too.

This show is just so cool. From Olyphant iconic turn as Givens to the great villains and one-off plots and criminals (this show does really good Crime of the Week episodes) to the understated humor and great action. I don't think it does a great job of sounding like Leonard (far too quippy), but it feels like an Elmore Leonard world.

I think Patton got enough dark shades to his character to make him fit with the show. He's doing a multiple episode arc so we'll see where they go with it.

Patton doesn't feel any broader than, say, Stephen Root as the Judge or Mykelti Williamson as Limehouse or Jeremy Davies as Dickie.

Patton is great.  If you need proof, other than this, check him out in Dollhouse.  Like many comedians he can nail drama with the best of them.

I think the Dewey Crowe comparison is pretty apt. Constable Bob is basically 'Lawman Dewey.'

I like Patton in anything, but I thought it was all worth it for the "He told me to pull on him, so I punched him in the nose" bit.

YOU DID IT WRONG!!!

I've seen a couple of allusions to Olyphant interview/talk show segments, and no question the guy is dry, drop-dead hilarious every time I've seen him.

Love the shakeup of the formula, and (as I think I posted in the "review" forum), and the bleak cheesiness of the revival tent (even if it was driven by budgetary concerns) reminds us of how different life in Harlan is, compared to the more uptown versions of these snake-oil evangelists we often see.

And every time I think Goggins can't be any more genius, he pulls off something like his reaction to Hiram getting shot.

Now back to pining for the return of Carla Gugino...

Hey, it doesn't mean Boyd is a DEVOTEE, just that he's read some of his works.

Either way, it makes for some a nice ironic moment - Boyd the hick-criminal-kingpin-former-preacher quoting the nerdy atheistic SF writer? Yes please.

Yeah, as good as the season-long "Big Bad" arcs have been (I'm pretty sure S2's Mags Bennett will go down as the best, but there wasn't much falloff with Quarles in S3, and Boyd is ALWAYS there, though he's almost more of an anti-hero/counterpart than a straight antagonist), I think the show tends to shine with the baddie-of-the-week format.

HA !

I figured someone who hasn't  watched the season opener yet (like me) would see that picture and go

'WTF?! Boyd Crowder had a sex change?!'

It's from Sons Of Anarchy S5E5 when he guested as a transgender character.

From Jim Beaver's twitter feed:

Quote:
Three DEADWOOD alums and Patton Oswalt in a hellacious gunfight today on the JUSTIFIED set. Whoopi-ti-ay-aay!

That's what I'm talking about.

Now I'm trying to imagine how Jim Beaver would say "Whoopi-ti-ay-aay!"

I just know they're gonna get us hooked on Constable Bob and then shoot the living shit out of him.

I'm actually betting on a bigger moment for "redemption" for him; like he actually does something useful in the long run (more so than in last weeks episode). But that's kind of a cliche, so who knows?

Did it really take until season 4 for Beth Grant to appear as a guest on this show?  H...HOW??

god damn, that is the fastest 60 minutes on TV....twists and turns and then BAM! it's over and now I have to wait another week.

love the Raylan, Art, Tim banter (I'd watch an hour of those guys just BS'ing in a car)
