Mass Effect 3 is Origin-exclusive because of silly EA.
Steam Holiday Sale 2013 - Page 2
I've been using this thread to thank folks for Steam gifts, and here's another: Thanks Medium Dave! I was on the fence about picking up Hotline Miami until I got a console-controller for my pc. This'll be the perfect excuse to pick one up. Thanks!
Yup, just jumped on that. I've heard only fantastic things about it. Can't say no at $5.
I feel like it's been a particularly great year for indie games. I've heard great things about Hotline Miami and Mark of the Ninja, and FTL and Spelunky are two of my favorite gaming experiences of the past few years.
It's been a far better year for indie and "smaller" games than AAA stuff. Mostly because that mega kick-ass AAA stuff got pushed back to next year. Far Cry 3, Dishonored and XCOM were the best of the bunch, but I consider those mostly A or AA, at least in the eyes of their creators. These weren't the mega billion dollar pushes from a publishing house, these were swing for the fences and hope for a RBI, at least. Thankfully, all three knocked it out of the fuckin' park.
Morrowind Overhaul works perfectly with Steam - in fact, there's a stage of the installation wizard that gives you a chance to deactivate the Steam overlay (Which you need to do). In fact, it's possibly the best installation setup I've ever seen for a mod. It'll check your system, make sure you have the right DirectX and other applications, make a backup, and you can tailor which features you want to install. It's a comparatively lengthy process (Took me about half an hour) but it's incredibly straightforward and user-friendly.

As someone who has been playing M:TG off and on since grade school, the video game is probably the best way to learn it and definitely the cheapest way to get enjoyment out of the game. The video game is much more balanced than playing it in real life where most players will decimate newcomers with decks constructed to end the game in three turns. Magic 2012 limits all the players to the same dozen or so pre-made decks which makes everything on a much more even footing for those new to the game.
Just don't expect fancy graphics, it is pretty much just virtual card game with no attempt at rendering a visualization of the duel between wizards which is the game's premise.
Just kind of rehashing Flash deals, today.
The Walking Dead is totally great, you guys. You should buy it. It's all 5 episodes and is some great storytelling. 50x better than the comic, 100x better than the show. Some absolutely devastating stuff.
Spec Ops, along the same lines. Walking Dead is better, though.
Secret World is pretty dope, if that goes on sale, it gets a recommend from me. Shooting Cthulhus with shotguns is real damn neat.
Everyone should play FTL. Fantastic game.
Also picked up Thirty Flights of Loving. Am concerned that it might be a bit too 'cutesy-quirky' for my tastes, but it's a good price and it seems different enough to be worth checking out. Also grabbed some Sleeping Dogs DLC while the flash sale is going - thankfully worked out fairly cheap as there's a shitload of cheesy costume packs to skip over. Grabbed the meaty stuff though, so really looking forward to getting stuck into the game.
From this point, I'm mostly done. there's really just The Secret World left - a 50% daily/flash on that and I'll be happy. Past that, I still fancy Miasmata and Waking Mars so hopefully they'll come up too.
I think I'm done too. So far, I've landed SimCity 4, Super Meat Boy, They Bleed Pixels, Warhammer 40K DoW franchise, Limbo, FEAR 1, Torchlight 2, Prince of Persia Sands of Time, Orcs Must Die 2, Walking Dead, Hotline Miami and Mark of the Ninja. Only reason I didn't drop money on Dishonored is I've got enough games now to wait at least another year before picking that one up.
And Steam isn't even trying on XCOM. 33% whoa nelly. Or how about the Sims3 franchise for an affordable discounted price of $175?
Plugged in a brand new Razer Onza and it's platformin' time!
This is my tally so far. Looking at it, it's a bit much, but with the exception of the newer AAA games I got most of these for under 15 bucks.
They Bleed Pixels
Space Marine + DLC
Miner Wars 2081
Doom 3 BFG Edition
Half Minute Hero
Titan Quest: Immortal Throne
So... GreenManGaming has XCOM for 50% off and a coupon for 30% off on top of that, taking it down to below $20. I believe you get a Steam key that you can activate.
Now THAT'S what I'm talking about.
Looks like I'm probably done. Mostly catching up on some older games and grabbing smaller indie titles. The final haul:
Arkham Asylum GOTY
Hitman: Blood Money
Mark of the Ninja
Orcs Must Die + DLC
Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones
Spec Ops: The Line
Super Meat Boy
13 games for $50. Not too shabby, if I do say so myself. Now I just have to hope that my ancient laptop will actually run everything well enough
So, Visa account is empty. here's the final haul for the season (GMG and Amazon purchases included):
The Secret World
X3: Terran Conflict
Skyrim: Dawnguard/Hearthfire DLC
XCOM: Slingshot DLC
Sleeping Dogs plus various DLC
Bastion (Gift from RD)
Stealth Bastard (Gift from Singer)
Tropico 4 Modern Times DLC
Thirty Flights of Loving
Magic 2012 Gold
Doom 3 BFG
Deus Ex: HR plus Missing Link
Gifts: FTL (RD), Morrowind (Singer)
So, slightly more than I was intending on buying but a lot of DLC.
The Walking Dead
Also picked up Spec Ops the Line from Amazon and got Black Ops 2 (360) for Christmas, so I'm pretty much set on games for a while.
Want to get my PC connected to the TV and pick up a 350 controller receiver so I can play The Walking Dead on the TV. Kinda prefer FPS with the keyboard/mouse though.
Thirty Flights of Loving
Thomas Was Alone
Half Minute Hero
Adventures of Shuggy
Natural Selection 2
I'm going to need an even bigger hard drive when I get back now that my 3TB bugger is full.
edited to add: Oh hey, it's nice to see RD is still alive and kicking out there somewhere. Where's his top 10 list already...
