Allow us to explain.

Too bad they just couldn't release an unrated version theatrically.

Obviously they weren't going to do that. Showgirls is the highest grossing theatrical NC-17 film. Think about that for a second.

At least until my home movies hit theatres. I'm expecting that gross to help pay for all my legal bills.

This news pleases me greatly.

Wouldn't even have to be a wide release. They could do a small release in a few hundred theaters. Would be great, but sadly wont happen.

Living in L.A., I've seen a few unrated and NC-17 movies theatrically at art houses and revival houses. Fun fact: Human Centipede 2 had to be cut down to receive an NC-17. Unfortunately, the rest of the country is still a bunch of sticks in the mud about ratings. So R it is.

Not that I doubt you, but what the fuck had to be CUT to get an NC-17? What was so extreme that the MPAA wouldn't even give it an NC-17? I always thought that was the final frontier, other than explicit hardcore shit.

This news makes my inner 13 year old very happy.

The MPAA balked at the scene where Martin has barbed wire-entangled sex with the eponymous centipede. It's in the DVD version of the movie, though.

Top that, Evil Dead remake!

Hmm. Upon further investigation, A Serbian Film had to be cut to get an NC-17 in America too.

I guess if there's an NC-17 line to be crossed, those two films absolutely were the ones to do it.

people are happy a film is being cut? what the fuck are you people on? you yanks need to get a fuckin real rating system and grow some balls.

I don't think anyone's happy that it's being cut. But in this country a major release can't sustain an NC17 rating because many theaters will not show it, so this was always going to have to go out with an R regardless. It's good to know that when it hits home video there will be an unrated version.

Well at least we know the Blu-Ray will have the real version of it...right?
