Ideas For Future Drafts - Page 21

Bailey: I'm on vacation next week (in Florida, of all places), so I'll be out.

So, early October for Universal Monsters?

Works for me.

Sign-up for a Universal Monsters draft is up.

Random spitball idea for the next draft once people are recharged and in the mood for a new one: Retro MAD MAX: FURY ROAD (could be 70s, 60s, even 50s). Good mix of female/male characters, would be fun to finally shake things up and do a retro casting draft, and there's a potential killer bonus on what great guitarist of the decade you'd cast as the Doof Warrior.

Not wedded to the idea, just throwing it out there.

Have we done any Christmas time movies? It's A Wonderful Life could be fun.

If we're gonna do a Christmas movie, there's really only one to consider: DIE HARD.

Judas speaks the truth. Lethal Weapon is another idea but dammit, Die Hard has to be it.

There's also Planes, Trains & Automobiles for Thanksgiving, but you would have literally only two characters to draft.

In the meantime, I'd say HeatAmerican Psycho, and the 80's redux still stand as my tops before we do a Christmas one.

Theoretically, the ten would be, I'd say, for Die Hard:

McClane

Holly

Gruber

Karl

Powell

Theo

Ellis

Thornburg

Robinson

Gail

I would argue Argyle for the last spot too, but Gail Wallens gives us a chance to have another female character (who has a decent amount of importance).

I'd be up for American Psycho.

Ideally, I'd want to do an early 90's version of that, but whatever the rules are, let them be.

Christmas Die Hard sounds great. Would be up for whatever before that.

Jeez, that movie has a lot of key roles. I think the final two should be a choice of Takagi, Argyle, Johnson, Johnson, Theo or any of the other ‘terrorist”. Or we should cast 15 roles and 3 rounds a day.

Other Christmas movies that’d be fun:

A Christmas Carol: you’d have some flexibility to do your spin on it (musical, modern update ala Scrooged)
Christmas Vacation: wouldn’t mind doing a comedy. Young Frankenstein and Ghostbusters were fun drafts that got us away from some of the more usual suspects.

Building off the Universal Monster idea, I was thinking our own version of the MCU could be fun.  Difficulty level: you can't draft anyone currently IN the MCU.

I like A Christmas Carol! That'd be weird.

MCU, but filming in 1961.

I'd really like to do a retro cast of some kind. MCU, Fury Road, or the 50's Blade Runner suggested a while back could be fun.

I think if we do something between now and Christmas, retro casting draft of some kind would be my top choice.

If folks are actually interested in doing this idea, I further suggest refining it to the dates of the Marvel characters' introduction-- Hulk and Spidey in 1962, Iron Man in 1963, and so forth. Would characters currently not included in the real MCU be viable? FF, X-Men, etc?

I would say MCU-only characters, otherwise it gets way too unwieldy. Though a 70s or 80s X-Men would be pretty great for a retro draft.

I was thinking of doing some kind of knockout related to the Presidents, either a top 50 of fictional ones throughout film and tv or we rank all 44.

We did a fictional presidents knockout last year. Ranking US presidents could be fun.

Yeah, that sounds fun.

I still like the idea of trying a retro draft.  I remember that we were talking about doing a 1950s BLADE RUNNER draft at one point and I latched onto Victor Mature as my Rick Deckard.

60s Robert Shaw would be a perfect Roy.

Richard Widmark as 50s JF Sebastian.

Would this mean 1941, or 1965 for Captain America?

Go with 1965 for the proper Marvel era. But there actually was a Captain America serial in 1944, so that's canon.

Yeah, Sebastion is a nerd-ish loner. Vintage Widmark had too much of a strong personality. You wouldn't believe a shy naiveté in first meeting with Pris.

My geek out choices: Lancaster Deckard/ Kirk D. Batty

Directed by John Frankenheimer.

Mitchum is the obvious Deckard, well besides Bogart, but he's more of a 40s' Deckard.  With Bacall as Rachel, of course.

Yul Brynner with hair as Batty?

Steve McQueen as 60s Deckard.

Tor Johnson as Batty.

Why would you design a replicant to look like Tor Johnson?

Brute force.

He wears a wig to play Leon. Or he does that for Batty and plays Leon bald.

Tor would be Pris, a pleasure model. Search your feelings, you know it to be true.
And Bela Lugosi would be Tyrell.
Bela is obviously Tyrell.

Vampira is Pris.

Bunny Breckenridge? He's totally Leon.

'Let me tell you about my mother.'

Man, now I kinda wanna say we should do the '50s Blade Runner once this knockout is done, but all the best ideas are already taken!

Peter Lorre is 1940s Gaff.

Insane idea because there's too many characters: LOTR draft. If Amazon's dumb enough to do it, we can do it too!

Or we do a '70s LOTR draft based on the Boorman script.

Wouldn't it be more interesting to do it now?  I mean, it'll be easier to fill all the roles, for one thing.  For another we can try to anticipate who they'll cast.  Seems like a weird place to do our first period casting draft.

Doing LOTR seems redundant to me. It's almost as if Amazon announced one of our ideas.

I know it's post-Halloween, but was also thinking SCREAM could be fun.

I literally don't even remember any of the characters in Scream other than David Arquette played some goofy deputy or some shit.

Whatever we do, everyone should get a free (hic) Christopher Plummer . . . like an upcard. Or has to use him as permanent second choice . . . too many Plummers and you're (hic) out.

Have a Criminal Draft. You can only Plummer one of them.

Robert Blake - Spider-Man
