The Lone Ranger Thread - Page 14

Is this gonna get me in hot water for thread necro-ing? I hope not. If this is too old, tell me where to post these thoughts and I'll go there from now on.

But anyway...I finally watched this.

THIS is the movie that caught so much shit a few years ago? Come on. Gore Verbinski EXCELS at this sort of thing. Look no further than Pirates 4 to see what a movie of this type WITHOUT him can be. YEEESH. I coulda told Disney that this wasn't gonna be a franchise starter and probably not even a big hit...but it DID get made. And for what it is it's pretty wild and weird and fun and gorgeous to look at. Crazy dark in spots too. This thing is too unique to have got shit on as much as it did. I dunno. I enjoyed it.

It's a product of hubris on a lot of people's part, no doubt. But damned if I didn't enjoy it..

I think one major factor is that 2013 was the year of peak Johnny Depp Fatigue.

Has that even subsided yet though? I feel a certain amount of that myself...but I enjoyed his Tonto way more than I thought I would.

The only thing that I had any sort of issue with at all (and this is a very small thing) is how obviously NOT Texas that that was. But it was a fantasy pretty much so, no biggie..

Glad to see someone else enjoying this. I remember seeing it on the big screen in 2013 with friends and we all walked out having thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

I'm basically fine with it!

I've never seen this. I've flipflopped back and forth since 2013 from being discouraged by people hating it to randos coming out of the woodwork to claim it's a misunderstood classic.

I'm so conflicted!

I thought it was pretty good. The final action scene is especially well done.

Just watch it. I'm sure you spent more time debating whether to watch it or not than it would have actually taken to just watch it.

It's over-hated.  It's bloated and I think that the Lone Ranger, as a character, could have been written better, but it's pretty enjoyable overall and really kicks into high gear once the 'Willliam Tell Overture' starts up.

I am a master debater.
