Still pissed off about the Australian version. All that's known is that they're changing a couple of scenes with anal probing, but I just don't trust our Government to leave it there. An ominous-sounding 'Low Violence Version' is up for pre-order on Steam here, so I'm half-expecting more cuts. Therefore, I'm half-expecting to get someone to gift me the US version.

I don't know man. I'd look forward to the build were you shoot puppies at evil like a carebear, take the absurdity just a notch higher. Or feline air strikes that rain down kitten ragdolls.

You see, that I can get behind. It's just that knowing the history of these things, it's just going to be a clusterfuck of snipped animations and disappearing enemies. I actually bought the Aussie version of Left 4 Dead 2: trust me, it wasn't pretty.

That's just kind of sad that your ratings system is a clusterfuck of lame. It's one of the annoying things that have to be done when making the german build of games is pouring over every minute detail so it appeases their boards...at some point we'll probably have to do the same with Aus if they keep this up.

Boss Voices:

Bloke Boss

i) Troy Baker

ii) Cockney Boss

iii) Not sure yet

Lady Boss

i) Laura Bailey

ii) FRENCH BOSS

iii) Southern Belle Boss

Bonus comedy gimmick boss: Nolan North, as himself.

Supposedly listed in the credits:

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Rowdy. Roddy. Piper.

That's right, this is practically THEY LIVE 2: THEY LIVE HARDER

And Stan Bush's 'The Touch' is on the soundtrack.

Alright, dammit! I was already going to buy it! Buying it twice doesn't do me any good!

So, I was already going to get this game. I saw in Sentinel's post that The Touch is on the soundtrack, and I thought I'd even put up with the censored version if it meant playing it.

And then I clicked the spoiler tag...

Yeah, hopefully GTA5 can bring back the fun, but I know this one will deliver.  I'm counting down the days.

I forgot to say, it also has romances and loyalty missions, it's totes riffing on/ripping the piss out of Mass Effect 2.

However, you cannot romance Keith David   frown.giffrown.giffrown.gif

That being the case, any score must deduct 2 points on general fucking principle.

You see, there they missed the opportunity of having a Mass Effect-ribbing extended love scene in the form of a ten-minute alley fistfight.

Fourteen hours into my Saints Row The Third Catch-Up (it got its hooks into me and it turned into a long play session). I'm hoping the three female boss voices listed by Sentinel Red, above, aren't the extent of it, because I've already grown attached to the hilarious Eastern European female voice as "my" voice.

RUSSIAN BOSS NEVER FORGET.

I hear you, man. She was marvellous. I especially loved her confession at the end, far better than any of the other bosses. But yes, the only returning VAs are Bloke Boss 3 (he's done every game in the series), and Troy Baker, Laura Bailey and Robin Atkin Downes from SR3. No Russian or Latina bosses this time round, alas.

This really is one series where the only DLC they need to offer is different VA packs. Imagine a Matt Berry boss, or a Jessica Walter boss, it would be AMAZING.

Did you do the DLC mission where you're shooting scenes for "Gangstas in Space?" Russian Boss's shatneresque line deliveries are amazing.

No he hasn't. SR1 had white dude, black dude, hispanic dude. And they switched VAs for Bloke Boss between 2 and 3.

Terry Motherfucking Crews IS Benjamin Motherfucking King.

Game of the Motherfucking Year.

The Inauguration Station character creator is available on Steam, and possibly the 360 and PS3 too. Download it, customise away and FEEL BOSS.

The first mission of the game, where the BOSS, Shaundi, and Pierce meet up with a new operative to stop a nuke from hitting Washington D.C.

The end result...is a thing of fucking beauty.

I love it!

Embargoed till the 14th, but able to exercise best judgement on a few things.

I'm maybe 4 hours in. It's definitely the best open world superhero game I've ever played. It's maybe the weakest Saints Row.

Also, I don't know if the feature isn't activated or what, and that wouldn't be surprising (Trophies are unlocking, but I can't see them in my list) but importing characters is still not happening for me. Someone should've called Bioware.

It sounds weird, but the Boss is probably my favorite video game character of this generation, probably because I built him and his back story from the ground up.  That really endears him to me.

This is good.

This is not.   Guess I'll find out in 2 weeks.

Maybe 4 more hours in. I take it back. In its own hyperreal way, its the ULTIMATE Saints Row game.

Ive been telling folks they didn't need to play SR 1 or 2 before The Third. This one may be a different story.

Also, probably could've guessed this, but this also utterly shames the Matrix games that have happened. That statement has less to do with gameplay than you think.

Yep, this is sounding like it's turned out exactly how I hoped. Don't think I'll be getting this day one (Don't want to risk open-world burnout for GTA5), but will definitely be getting this.

I never truly started SR:The third, and ended up trading it due to lack of time; got it back when it was given away in PS Plus, but havent started it again yet.

And Volition has to go and make the sequel have superpowers, virtual reality and Terry Crews, Keith David and  Roddy Piper in it.

Which mean I'll buy it regardless; well, if it has less Gansta Douchebag and more Superhero insanity, I'll probably enjoy it...its just that I love the idea and gameplay of an over the top heir to "Crackdown", but the whole themes and characters of the SR series have never appealed to me, even if they are comical parodies.

Saints Row The Third was my first game in the series, but I fell in love with it. It kills me that such a madcap comedy game would feature Hulk Hogan in such a deadpan dramatic role. The people behind these games are brilliant.

Well, that's good to hear.

See, I'd agree that you don't NEED to, but the second one is well worth a play through.  It's not as crazy over-the-top as 3, but it's pretty damn fun and is pretty crazy in its own right.  After the dourness of GTA4 it was a blast.  Plus, it's the game that made Saint's Row more than just a GTA rip-off, as that's really all the first one is.

Just working my way through 3 and I have to say, never having played these games before, holy shit. I have a mind-controlling squid cannon launcher thing, and a car with a cats face that picks up people as i drive into them and then shoots them out a cannon with a sparkly chem-trail.

Awesome.

As for 4? Between the Spoiler tag reveal and THE TOUCH!, I'm not sure how to contain myself.

They may here. I and others had the inkling that the Mars ending of 3 was Volition gently questioning the series' direction, and its gangsta roots, but that the game wasn't that smart. IV's confirming that yeah, they might actually be that smart.

Hes rumored. If he's in here, I haven't run into him yet.

I was really hoping he'd be taking the spot Nolan North took. That would've been fantastic.

Done. Currently 87% complete. Probably the first of these games I'm going to aim for 100% on.

Review the second embargo lifts tomorrow morning. But the easy version is SR IV : Saints Row :: Fast Five : Fast and the Furious.

Already updated my Neil McCauley, Agent Dunham, and Bruce Willis avatars on the Inauguration Station, my bodies are ready. I also look forward to downloading any other creation's that are being shared to saintsrow.com when this launches.

Giant Bomb's quick look. Fuck, it's beautiful.

SO HYPED.

Going all in with Steven Heck (Nolan North Boss), Ulala (French Boss), and DCI Luther (Cockney Boss). It's going to be magnificent. Thank god it's a Bank Holiday weekend next week.

Full disclosure: McClane was something I downloaded off the community for SR3. Usually my goto guy and will probably stick to him for SR4. Fauxlivia I made for the genderbender achievement in SR3, but also used her as my primary character in SR2. McCauley I made after watching Heat at some point last year, but haven't used him since.

Damn Justin, like the next week isn't going to be long enough.  I'm digging that they've got references to all the previous games and have fully gotten away from the "thug" atmosphere of the first.

Oh, and the bugs have been around since the first game.

Messing around with the Creation Station... Just found the dance Morris Day & Jerome do during "Jungle Love" in "Purple Rain" as a compliment. Holy fuck, this is the game of the century.

Why do I have to be broke this week? Damn.

That opening was great.  won't spoil anything but just perfect

Awesome opening bits. Now that I'm in the sandbox I'm actually annoyed I'm back to noob status, similar to how everything gets reverted when starting a new AssCreed game. Buying the clothes, upgrading the cars, earning respect all over again. Too bad there wasn't an option to at least import my key stats from Saints Row 3. Game still plays perfectly on my rig with everything at Ultra settings. Hope the transition to the super powers isn't that far off.

Once you're out of the 50s, you have maybe 2 missions on foot, and then you get your speed and jump.

Also, it's launch day, no more sitting on this:

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Fuck yeah, Piper's in here. Full on They Live sequence, as Keith David's Loyalty Mission.

Things picked up right where I had to stop playing, I'm an ass. Jesus hell this game get's better and better. Cluster collecting keeps nagging my ocd tendencies, just one more jump. The turbo speed melee's are awesome. Finally escaped the simulation...damn, kind of wasn't expecting that at all (but the chievo that popped is golden). Kind of bizarre nobody on my friends list is playing this.
Yeah, I don't know about you but I most certainly *was* panicking at the end of Act One. Gonna punch Zinyak's balls off for that. Although to be fair, I can almost forgive him for it due to his sterling handling of the classical radio station.

My main issue with the game so far is that the version of 'The Touch' is the less good revamp from a few years back. Shoulda stuck with the original, dudes.

Get to Pierce's loyalty mission, tell me if you feel the same way about Zinyak's musical preferences.

In the meantime, I've started the game over. Black French female Boss this time. I didn't even want to start Mass Effect over this soon after beating it. I <3 this game.
