Friday the 13th Catch-All - Page 22

I can't remember what happened yesterday!

After watching that clip of all the deaths, I'm wondering how much 80s inspired glam metal will be on the soundtrack.

IIRC on one of the gameplay videos, radios in the game would be playing it as you ran by them.

Curious if it will be predominately score/ambient sounds.

It does look like that music will only play on the radios. One of the first trailers showcased the layout of Higgin's Haven with a music score playing over it that I'm pretty sure was part of Harry Manfredini's score.

Good thing too, because even though this music is a nice addition, it shouldn't be representative of all the 1980's. Then again, I bet most of the kids of today think all 80's was glam metal, or worse, they confuse the 90's with the 80's and think MC HAMMER, Vanilla Ice, and The New Kids On The Block were all big 80's acts, when they didn't get famous until the 90's.

If the even know who any of those guys are...

To be fair, the '90s didn't really start until 1992.

Music from the past decade always lingers a few years into the next.

That's why we have a disco tune as the main them for Friday The 13th Part 3.

The Final Chapter is the first that feels firmly cemented in the 1980s.

I agree there. That's what I love most about the first three. They all feel like they were made in the late 70's.

I was just about to say the '80s didn't start until 1984!

Savini's design for JASON GOES TO HELL's Jason without mask:

That's how I look IRL.

Nearly done with the Part 3 book. Jason LAUGHS. Several times while he's hacking up the kids at Higgins Haven. I almost wouldn't believe that except for this.

He smiles a whole lot through the ending. When he first takes his mask off and Chris recoils in terror upon recognizing him (and that smile definitely means he remembers her), when she sees him in the upstairs room in the dream sequence and he's smiling while trying to open the window. Then once he busts through the door an has that smile in the picture.

It's completely believable that he'd actually be laughing.

Laughing Jason?

*pukes*

Now that I'm thinking about the actual movie, he also makes this heavy breathing sound and what also sounds like "Heh" when he takes his mask off while taking the noose off, and when he's trying to open the window in the dream sequence.

Found this clip from the dream sequence and it should start right when he appears.

Happy Jason is so creepy.

Finally a release date for the game.  3 days before my birthday!  You hear that, Wife?!?  HINT HINT?!?

Okay, so this game comes out tomorrow.  Before I commit to PC or PS4, I want to get an idea of where most of the Chewers (Poopers?) will be playing.  PC or PS4?

Regardless of what youre playing on the servers are a mess.
Yeah, from what I've heard I'll be waiting at least another month before getting this. Hopefully people will still be playing by then.

I'm playing as we speak on PS4 with my brothers and nephews (one all the way from Kuwait). Waiting times are a bitch on account of the server issues, but it's still pretty fun... Haven't gotten to be Jason yet.

ETA: Scratch that-- just played as Jason (from Part 6) for the first time. And I managed to not murder a single person. I suck.

I played a match a little while ago where all the counselors managed to get away.  I wonder if you were Jason!

Because of geekdom and work getting a press copy, I actually have this game on both PS4 and Steam.  If anyone wants to play, hit me up.  Assuming Gun Media fixes their database error for my Steam account, as I haven't been able to log in today...

This fucking thing might just bring me back to the world of video games. On PS4 you say?

Man I can't wait to be able to play with some of you guys. Been waiting for a proper F13th game forever.

It's really fun!

I've only got a PS3. And it's only been used for movie watching purposes for YEARS. I was wondering what was gonna make me finally spring for a PS4. Seems I've found it.

In due time..

What's funny is that I had just played a session as a counselor where we all got away, and I thought, haha, what a loser.

Then I got Jason and realized that I hadn't so much as looked at how his abilities work. And there really isn't an opportunity to practice. I also realized Part 6 Jason is slow as shit, so you really need to magic him around effectively.

It's all about using his abilities effectively.  I'm actually really great at playing Jason -- I kill everybody, Tommy included, like 90% of the time -- and I'm flying around the map like a wizard.

Which version have you been using?

Usually Part 7 because he has the strongest sense ability.

OMG...you can use different Jasons from different movies?! That's amazing! Can you also be Mrs. Voorhees and Roy from Part V??
No Mrs. Voorhees, though her head makes its appearance. I've also heard tell you can get ahold of her stylish sweater. No fake Jason from 5 either.
Well, I won't begrudge it those omissions. Cuz it sounds like what you CAN do is awesome..
Finally-- killed two of my little shit nephews. One in a boat... classic.

Is this only a on-line multilayer game? There is no offline campaign mode?

There's going to be an offline single player mode that thus far is being said will be released some time this summer. There will also be a physical disc release. I'm waiting on that. I'm hoping for a story mode, but so far the rumors are that it will just be you being able to do offline matches with AI bots. Much like Lost Planet 2.

It sucks that you can't play as Jason, as Slim said. From what I understand it's pretty random. I get that though. That cuts down on people fighting over who's going to be Mr. Black er, I mean Jason.

Thanx. The trailer amd game play for this looked fantastic, I think I'll be waiting on the physical disc release too.

Ever since that frustratingly confusing NES one.

This is the first online multiplayer game I have ever played, and I was hoping to collect a few PS4 CHUD friends that will be playing over the next few months, especially now that my son showed me how to add friends. And showed me how much easier it is to play with a group of the same people by seeing who is already playing, and who are less likely to be racist assholes.

If you are up for a few games now and then, I'm Jimmy_The_13th on PS4. I'll likely be an easy kill to build your stats, but I have actually escaped in the boat once, so maybe I am finally figuring this game out a little after 15 or so matches.

Funny....just from what I know about it....this game seems like the natural extension of at least the ideas that old game was playing with. Even if it did suck..
Did they put a Mrs. Voorhees shrine in this? I wanna wear her sweater and trick his dumb ass.
The sweater probably only works on Jason part 2, 3 and 4.

Jason from part 6 on would probably just fuck you up anyway..
There is supposedly a way to do just that-- it's one step in a ridiculously complex scenario that allows you to kill Jason. I don't know that anyone has actually done it.

I'll put an eye out for you when I play again next weekend.

I've been improving... Although my finest moments were a couple games in a row where I got murderized super early on heroically calling the cops, then coming back as Tommy Jarvis and surviving till the end while actually helping others escape.

Still haven't had a good outing as Jason. I got a good start on one but then the game dumped everyone out for some reason.
I looked at the Wiki for the game and like how certain versions of Jason have positive and negative attributes.

Part 6 is the only Jason that has throwing knives. Thought that was a nice touch.
I havent had a chance to actually play yet but if were adding people Im on PS4.

Just some F13th game FYI for you guys:

I got to play about 5 matches today over the course of about 2 and a half hours, but they are still having some trouble getting people to be able to grab a game or stay online.  I hear that people with enough friends to setup a private game are getting to play with basically no problems though....hint, hint!

Did terrible as Jason for my 3rd time, but did ok as a counselor.  It is still really fun, but I don't have the patience to just try to wait out the time limit and survive.  As many people as I see pulling that off, I should probably just do it, but it's a lot more fun to try to find the items to get the car or the boat running to make an escape.

Best game today had 4 of us get everything to escape in the car (I actually got the gas, instead of being a slacker, so yay me!), and the person driving got us to safety driving completely in reverse.  Jason kept showing up to smash the car, but I think he was confused that she was driving away backwards every time.  I was in the backseat though, and still don't even know if I'll know how to drive the car if I get the chance one time.  I did find the keys during one match today, but I died pretty quick after.

Long story short:  Let's get some people together to take this F'er down next weekend for crying out loud!  So much fun, and if I was single I'd be playing the damn thing with the volume maxed up, because it starts to get the blood pumping when he is getting close.

p.s.  Sorry for the long post, but I am generally long winded

It will probably be a couple weeks before I can get this, but hopefully by the time I do they'll have some sort of server fix.

There must be a zillion pop culture references to parse through:

Looking back through this thread was surprised to learn that Ash vs Jason Voorhees crossovers are a thing. Have to wonder why there has never been a Punisher vs Jason comic book? So much "two sides of the same coin" symmetry going on with those two. Both characters born in tragedy, both turned into brutal monsters with an unquenchable thirst for ending people, and for both characters their kills are inevitable with only the "how" changing from story to story (the more memorable they are, the more perversely thrilling it is for fans). Imagine the marketing- a big poster of Jason's white hockey mask vs the classic Punisher death's head against a pitch black background, would be almost too perfect.

To make it a fairer fight, whoever writes the story would probably have to find a way to separate the Punisher from his extensive arsenal... thinking maybe Frank Castle is initially stalking some other criminal near Crystal Lake but things go pear shaped and somehow he ends up stuck in the woods and low on supplies, then comes face to face with Jason which of course forces him to get creative as only he can. Could be a fun match up in the right hands...

If it happens, I can only hope it turns out better than Jason vs. Leatherface.

An interesting wrinkle in the matter of the rights to the FRIDAY series, per The Hollywood Reporter...

'Friday the 13th' Producer Points to Writers' Union Membership in Bid to Retain Franchise Rights

Whatever ends up happening, it sounds like we're probably MANY years away from a new movie.
