They're okay. I read afterwards that one of them was not directed by Alan Taylor and he wasn't pleased that is was included.

First Class 782, No way. I will not...Kid...Man. Nicole looked her best in...Moulin Rouge.

They're showing a 5-minute sneak peek of Captain America: The Winter Soldier in front of all 3D screenings of Thor 2: The Dark World. I won't bother with it myself because fuck 3D. But I thought some of you would like to know.

Loki does seem to enjoy accusing others of desperation. He did it to Fury in the Avengers too.

I think it's an intentional callback to that movie, my friend.

No, it's one of Hiddleston's on set demands. He says it to the horse in War Horse.

Early reviews seem to be pretty positive. Devin's was nigh unto gushing, but I've learned to distrust his reviews of Marvel properties.

It's bizarre how he shits all over Nolan and Batman but loves Marvel's corporate product.

Devin's a fanboy.  He's "loyal" to some things and immediately attacks his favorite brand's competition.

For example:

He loves STAR TREK but hates STAR WARS.

He loves Marvel but hates D.C.

He loves FRIDAY THE 13TH but hates A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET.

Etc.

It's not bizarre. He's a fucking tool for all things Marvel Studios, quality be damned.

It's sad because I used to respect most of his reviews, but now I just have to roll my eyes at clear evidence of bias (not talking about Thor, just in general).

Just to be 100 percent clear, yes, he's obviously Marvel bias.  No fucking duh.  But in his latest Thor review he mentions that he couldn't even watch Thor 1 again at home because he was so bored and miserable, so lets not mistake the smart critical thinking fanboy writer for a dumb fanboy.

I've detected a lot of anti Branagh bias and snark in his various articles when his issue by all rights should be with Marvel for forcing such a small budget on the first film and dictating that it be set in a small town.

I find a lot to enjoy about the first Thor personally.  Whatever.

First Thor's like my favorite or second fave of the Marvel films so far.

If this one is as good or better, and then Captain America 2 is as good as it looks, they'll going to be on quite the roll. I won't even mind all the heavy DC bias I'll be reading in these threads.

He even has critical words for this movie in the review. It's almost like people are letting bias affect their perception of bias. Weird. Meta.

I just hate when genuine facts get spun into little mini witch hunts.

He's beat the crap out of the new Star Trek films just like he beat the crap out of the new Star Wars films. He's also said that he used to love SW until the prequels broke that love. His opinions aren't simplistic brand love, they're responses to the works.

And yeah, the thing about him hating Thor 1 and all that malarkey.

He's a fanboy because he cheers for films and against films.  His natural reaction is, "I like (this), therefore I don't like (this)."

I'm not saying this as some guy who's mad he doesn't like whatever thing I like.  This is just how his mind operates.  He gave THOR a positive review.  He gave IRON MAN 2 a positive review.  He made his mind up that he hated STAR TREK 2 before it even started shooting, which is another pretty classic fanboy trait.

Also...

So the prequels are the reason he calls STAR WARS and RETURN OF THE JEDI bad films, then?  If a bad film is enough to ruin your enjoyment of anything connected to it, I would also clarify that as fanboy.

Everyone enjoying this discussion about Devin's Marvel bias? Because there are quite a few other reviews out right now, all of which seem to paint this as really solid, perhaps not excellent, and very much a continuation of the Marvel brand, but enjoyably so.

Everyone roots for movies to fail sight unseen. I'm currently rooting against the animated Turkey film that just came out, for absolutely no good reason. But it can go fuck itself.

I deeply regret my posting sparking this.

The reviews I've been reading have been pretty positive, with everyone saying it's an improvement over the first film (which, for me, is just a tad better than IRON MAN 2, and sits near the bottom of the Marvel films released since 2008). I'm interested in what they do with the title character as far as an arc and depth go.

I hope this doesn't come across as overly angry, but I really have no idea why we must bring up Devin in every discussion here.

Hell, his website exists almost exclusively for people to talk about him (I get a really creepy, personality cult vibe from that place). He isn't part of this community anymore. Not only that, when he left, he did so in an ugly, unkind way. I find it a little disrespectful to the people who are still running this site that he is still such a big presence around here.

Again, I didn't mean this as an attack on anyone, I just really don't see why his opinion keeps becoming part of so many discussions here...

Because he's a smart insightful writer who has some of the most interesting things to say when it comes to genre deconstruction and review.  You making a vendetta about it is EVEN MORE ANNOYING than people bringing up something he's said or done.

I'm not really making a vendetta... I just find it odd that he always gets mentioned. And he DID take a massive dump on the creator of the site when he left.

But whatever... I don't want to make this into an argument or a big deal.
I haven't liked some of the things Devin's done over the years but that doesn't stop me from seeing that he's one of the best in the game. He really knows his shit and he's really good at writing and talking about it, and until that changes I'll see him as very, very relevant.

"MichaelM... Through your arrogance and stupidity, you've opened these peaceful webpages and newly-joined Chewers to the horror and desolation of Devin! You are unworthy of these realms, you're unworthy of your awesome avatar, you're unworthy... of taking part in the next Flash Gordon watchalong! I now take from you your rep! In the name of my father and his father before, I, Odin Allfather, cast you out!"

Saxon wins! See, now aren't Odin memes way more fun?

Remember everyone, while you're defending or disparaging Devin, this is what Adibisi looks like in Thor.
