Hey all, anyone else been picking these up? I'd never really watched the show on Sci-fi or anything, but picked up the 1st set when it came out. I figured, what the hell, it was only like $50 for 40 episodes. Thought it would at least be interesting to check it out as there aren't too many serialized horror shows out there. (Plus I gotta admit to kind of liking the 'idea,' if not the melodrama, of a soap opera...meaning that it's story could go on and on and constantly evolve.) And though Dark Shadows has melodrama, it's all related to morbid and macabre situations and actions, not that Jimmy married Susie who had Harry's baby
Plus being told over a long time gives the story a chance to take its time.
After that first I've bought all 5 that are out and can't wait for the next ones. While there are flubbed lines here and there, there have been at least one or two creepy moments. And some of the 'live on tape' special effects have been suprisingly good. But beyond that is the mood. This show is gothic to the extreme.
There's been vampires, ghosts, hidden crypts, ancient tomes, graveyard caretakers who talk to the dead, murders, seances, witchcraft, witch hunters (in the late 1800's no less!), exorcisms, reanimated corpses, young girls locked away in cells till they go mad, a cool mad doctor labratory, cattle drained of blood, attacks on young townswomen, locked rooms in basements holding terrible family secrets, vampire bat attacks, coffins, cemeteries and lots of thunderstorms.
It's just pretty damn cool and very addictive. With 5 sets I'm at 200 episodes which is barely one year out of seven.
Was just curious if anyone else was enjoying these sets?
