Horror DVD's to buy at the con?

If anyone has any suggestions as far as some good, obscure horror dvd's to pick up at the convention I'd appreciate it. Is Ichi the Killer on Reion 0 or 1 or VCD or anything and might it be available? Is there a good version of Battle Royal to pick up for a Region 1 player?

Do you think a dealer might have that special Canadian edition of Ginger Snaps there?

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated so I don't waste too much time and money looking around.

Sweet, thanks!

For Canadian DVDs, like Ginger Snaps, and Brotherhood of the Wolf, I've used online stores like HMV and CD Plus. And I know other people who have used Amazon Canada.

If you do find a vendor with the Ginger Snaps at the show, you may find that there are better deals online.

The only Ichi The Killer DVD that you should think about buying is the Region 2 double disc set (it should say "full uncut version" somewhere on it). The other versions are toast.

If you don't have R2 capabilities then just get a tape off ebay or something. Don't waste your time with the heavily cut VCD or DVDs.

I just got an uncut region 0 Ichi off ebay. I've seen the r2 uncut and this is the exact same version. The only difference is the absence of all the neato extras, which sucks, but I'm not reg-free yet so shoot me.

The Ichi the Killer 2 Disc set is definitely the only way to go.
Unfortunately, it is VERY expensive. I was at a Fango show in NYC and the Chiller show here in NJ, and it was $35 or more at each.

I got mine off Ebay, and paid pretty much the same. Even online stores I have found have it for a high price.

Other movies you might like:
Suicide Circle
Deathwatch
Dawn of the Dead GERMAN version - in German language only, but it's 155 minutes long!

Also if there is a table for Luminous Film and Video works, check it out.
They too are expensive ($25-$35 or more), but they have quality stuff.
At my last con I picked up TCM Region2 boxed, Prison, and White Dog.

Good luck and have fun!

Hey Floyd, I got that Canadian Ginger Snaps off Ebay for pretty cheap. And that's definately worth picking up whereever you can find it.

Well, just got back from Saturday at the con so here's "What I bought"

On DVD
Night of the Creeps (with original and tv version)
Road Games
28 Days Later (British Disc)
Pulse
Battle Royale
Ed Wood (Japanese Buena Vista Special Edition)
Love Bites
Dellamorte Dellamore (Cemetery Man)

and on VHS some local horror host stuff!! All in all it was pretty cool, saw Johnathon Brek (the Creeper), Lisa Wilcox, Ken Foree, Kevin McCarthy (and got into a long explanation when he asked where Miskatonic U was--as was on my shirt) Brad Dourif, Tom Sullivan (and got some cool art) Bill Mosely and Robert Z'Dar.
And they were giving out free 28 Days Later shirts and bandage dispensers...how cool is that!

Very nice Doc! Nothing seems to be working out for me these days. While I got to spend all day with my sons I was planning on making it in time to browse the dealer room for an hour or so and then check out the movies but my fuel line ruptured. Can't a guy just get a break and be able to go to a horror convention without any problems.

Hey Dr W., is that Night of the Creeps an official release? Details?

That sucks Floyd, was kinda hoping maybe I'd see someone from the boards there. You going to try and make it tomorrow?
I won't be at the dealer room, but I plan on checking out "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" and "Planet of the Apes" and "Hills have Eyes" tomorrow night

No, I don't think there's much of any 'official releases' at a convention like this. Everything I got is either a transfer of a PAL Reg 2 or 3 to Region Free or burned from a laser disc version or something.
"Night of the Creeps" is 1.33 so it's full frame which kind of bites, but it has a digitaly mastered version with the "Zombie Dog Ending" and the uncut cable TV version with the "cemetery ending." It also has a photo gallery and a filmography of Fred Dekker.
It may be full frame, but it looks pretty good, no better but definately no worse than a good VHS copy. I'm just happy to have it And it's been so long I have no idea which of the versions I'd seen.

You lucked out then, cool, enjoy the movie. I don't mind paying por quality or a rarity but I'm always on the lookout for a deal.

The money you save on one movie is money you have to buy another.
