The Playstation 4 thread (PS4) - Page 3

It really is a bummer that you can't play PS3 games on PS4.  I also haven't really played a game on my PS4 in a while.  I did finish GTA V on PS3 and then also got the new Saints Row.  My asshole tv only has two HDMI inputs so I've gotta switch out the PS3 and PS4 everytime I want to use one or the other.  Tried to get a splitter and it only worked for like a day.  So annoying. #firstworldproblems.

I can't recommend Tomb Raider enough, even if you've played it before.

I echo download Outlast if PS+ member.

Try one of these, it's a 4 port HDMI switch with remote but they have 2 ports for less than $12. (This is less than $30).

Thanks for the recommendations, guys.

I did download Outlast, but I cannot bring myself to play it because I am a scaredy pants.

I guess I've just been so spoiled by a free PS3 game every week and a huge back catalog.

Also, the Infamous game is out next month.  Reason enough (for me at least) to get excited and something that will hopefully be very much so worth playing.  The first Infamous on PS3 did nothing for me at first, but eventually I gave it a second chance, and I'm glad I did because it grabbed me like few games do.  I very nearly did everything you COULD do in it, and then the same happened with me for the sequel.  So, more of that?  Yes please.

Don't know if you have surround sound, but I got around this same problem by using the HDMI inputs in my receiver and controlling everything that way. Two of my devices are able to occupy just one of the HDMI slots on the TV now...if that makes sense.

I got one with two ports a couple months ago.  It worked fine at first and then would starts automatically switching back and forth or blacking out one of the screens.  Perhaps I'll give this one a try.

Yup that's the way to do it. Get an HDMI receiver and do the switching through that.

If South Park was coming out on the 4, I'd have one already. Just one game, guys, and I'm in.

As is, I'm starting to get seduced by the Xbox contingent. It sounds kinda cool. But then, I got no use for Titanfall, so they have the same basic problem.

I have an Xbox one, to me, it's annoying as shit. I have Dead Rising and it's a fun game but I'm not going to lie, I've only played it for about hour or so. I was on the Titanfall beta before it became widely available about 2 days later and it's fun, but again I didn't play it for long. There's something about the Xbone UI that I find really annoying. Maybe because I'm used to the PS3/4, but some things are just not easy to get at. It does work with my Harmony remote, which is a plus, but it doesn't automatically sign on unless you turn on face recognition. And because I didn't go deep into the power settings, my Xbox used to come on every time I walked in the room, which would result in me shouting at it repeatedly to "Xbox turn off".

Going by how many I see in Costco, I'm not sure they are selling that well.

When my PS4 gets a decent remote and the Youtube app, I'm not sure it's going to get turn on again.

That is creepy as fuck. Outlast did not scare me as much as that would.

Xbone is great at playing all the next gen hits at lower resolutions (when compared to the Power of the PS4). Add in the fact Netflix is behind a paywall still. Kinect is shit, tv integration is useless (to me at least). Game installs are still too long 11+ minutes (not including additional time for title updates) vs PS4's 3-4 minute installs. A puny hard drive you can't upgrade (unlike PS4 that let's you plop in any notebook sized hd). All those features for 100 more bones than what the PS4 costs at retail.

Yep, once PS4 gets a good remote it'll take our slims spot in the living room as our All In One Entertainment System.

I tried the TV integration on the first day, about 5 mins later I disabled that shit. It was so sloooooow. My cat could have typed the numbers on the remote quicker than it could change channels. Sometimes it wouldn't even select the right channel.

Netflix, you're right I forgot all about that, I pay for Netflix but you need a gold Xbox Live membership for it to work. I asked around my Xbox 360 friends and they are like "Yeah , that's right, no biggie". WTF? How has this not come up to a shitstorm, I have no idea.

With the PS3/4 I know that it's downloading or installing, you can see it. You know exactly where you are at, I know how much it has downloaded to the MB and what percentage it has left to install. Not with the XBONE, it merges those 2 things together into this mystical percentage figure that is like watch a kettle boil. Also, to get that number you have to jump through a bunch of hoops and sacrifice a small child to the memory of Steve Jobs.

I'm not even a fanboy, Ryse/Dead Rising was fun but the UI just annoys me so much I just hate turning it on. I would enjoy it more if it was just good. As of right now, it isn't nearly good but's very nearly bad.

I generally have no system bias.  I have games and backlogs going WAY back with Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft...  I love the 3DS.  I love the Vita, etc etc etc...  But the Xbone just rubs me kind of weird this time.  I'm not saying I still won't eventually have one some day ( I loves me some Halo and Gears), but the next gen PS4 vs Xbox One There Can Be Only One ...for now... decision was super easy almost from the get go.  From a gaming perspective Sony's doing very well so far.  All the more recent lower resolution stuff etc. just retroactively makes my easy decision seem like an even better idea.  I don't want the thing to fail, but WTF?!?

I also don't actively seek it out everywhere I go, but the handful of times over the past few months I've looked, I've always seen MANY Xbones in stock at various different retailers, and only once have seen a lone PS4 in stock.  A While back I asked a random Gamestop employee if the Xbox one is in stock because there's MORE of them, and they told me 'not really'.  It's more a matter of the PS4 just disappearing that much quicker when they come in.

I really have no system bias either. (I have a Wii U!) Eventually want both the PS4 and Xbone. But, I love the Plus program, so Sony's winning out for me. Also, I'll be more interested in the Xbox when/if they beef up the storage space.

Liar, I've seen the tweet pics of you rubbing the N-Gage against your hard erect nipples by a fireplace, we know where your loyalties lie....by the fireplace, with the nipples, fondling Nokia's baby.

If you have a good router/clean airways, using the Vita for remote playing games streamed to the handheld is also greatness. Being able to stream AssCreed 4 or Resogun lag free around our house is a surprise addition that doesn't get enough love (of course you need a Vita). Just don't bother trying with a wireless-g router, it'll lag out and disconnect frequently.

Yes, if you were even mildly curious about the Vita and are considering a PS4, they do play very nicely together, and PS+ makes THAT even better.

But alas...  what use do I have for this Sony BS?!?!  I'd much rather stand by the fireplace (because it's better than sitting) alternating uncomfortable stares at the stars and the N-Gage, with my N-Gage in hand, wearing my Starfleet uniform, muttering "N-Gage, Engage, N-Gage, Engage" to myself, much to the chagrin of family and loved ones...  mostly that poor, poor woman who decided to marry me, and my 18 month old son.

You guys are convincing me to by a Vita. Like I need more things to do on the toilet.

I'm so tempted also, but I was burned on the PSP.  I fear Vita will be the same when it comes to games.

3DS has the games right now.

I was a huge fan of the PS3 last generation, but this gen it bores me.  I'm really digging the Bone.  It feels more premium to me.  Kinect is all right, but I love, love the voice commands.

I still want a Vita tho.

Eh, I'm all over the place with tech.  I love all of it.

It doesn't understand a word I say most of the time. It is cool to say Xbox pause and it pauses. I have a remote though and it makes me less crazy. I only use voice commands if I have greasy fingers.

especially since there isn't any half decent ps4 games out right now

No bullshit, I think the PS4 is probably the best designed machine since the Dreamcast.

I'm likely to retire the PS3 once I buy a PS4, so I'm kinda trying to clear up any lingering games to play before I buy one (I suppose the 25 month release plan for A Wolf Among Us probably fucks that up). Mostly, I just hate the idea of having both hooked up to the TV at once. Untidy!

I think you should buy it when Watchdogs comes out.  Well, a couple weeks before it comes out.  That title will most likely move systems.

I've heard it's the next big thing, but the ad does nothing for me. What makes it more than the latest GTA clone?

Chicago, in the game, is basically a tech integrated city.  Everything runs on a network.  You have the ability to pretty much manipulate everything.  So if your into being an anarchist/vigilante/detective; this is your game.

From what I read: its a thinking man's GTA.

Also, I think, tech wise, its probably really going to show off the next gen consoles.

Sounds interesting. I'll keep an eye on it.

Really?  Then you have it calibrated wrong or something.

Oh, I agree and I expected nothing less from Sony.  I adored the PS3 for the BD-Player alone.  I just prefer gaming on the Xbox and I like all the tech stuffed into the Xbone.

I'm waiting for a price drop on the Wii U dying to play it.

Really? back at you, I'm not the only one. The internets is full of complaints about the voice control. It works well enough in a quite room but once I get my AVR blasting, not so much.

Again, not being a fan boy but what does it have that the PS4 doesn't have, if you get the PS4 camera? Let me know, I'm actually interested.

Also, could I use this time to mention how great the PS4 controller is? The dual vibration is great and the onboard speaker, which at first I thought of as a throwaway bit of tech, adds a nice bit of atmosphere. If only the battery life was a little better.

I'm not really a gamer, but holy crap.

Looks like a Nolan-ized Arkham City. They'll certainly get all the money, including mine.

So you mean like the other Arkham games?

My question is, why aren't some studios making full-length cgi superhero films like this? I can't imagine the cost is that prohibitive.

Another CGI trailer with no in-game.  Wonderful.

The fact this is next-gen only makes me happy.  Cross-gen development cripples the more advanced versions.

Other than the impression that you get to drive the batmobile, why are people going nuts here?  It looks a lot like Origins, which is my favorite of these yet btw.

Next gen exclusive which could mean it could really show off the systems.

I traded in my PS3 and games last week to get my PS4 and I am sort of regretting it.  I don't regret buying a PS4, but I regret the timing.  Prior to the trade-in I just started playing Dragon Age Origins again for my 950th playthrough....now I am sitting around with Call of Duty and nothing else.  I enjoy CoD multiplayer (which might make me the only one on these boards), but I'm dying to play something else.  The next game that is a definite buy will be The Elder Scrolls, but that's not out until 7/1.  Ive looked at the PSN games (I thought there would be more of a selection, to be honest), and nothing tickles my fancy.  Is anybody playing anything on the PS4 that they really like right now?

I like Assassin's Creed okay, but I am very glad I didn't get rid of the PS3, since I just picked up Remember Me for free from PSN and Dark Souls for $20 at Target. The back catalog cannot be denied.

Your mileage may vary if you're not a comic book or pinball fan, but the Marvel Zen Pinball tables are what I've played most extensively on the PS4.

Check out Don't Starve on PSN. Supposed to be a lot of fun. Dark Souls 2 came out, so I've currently got my PS4 on Ignore mode.

I saved about $120 trading in what I had, which is great for someone who doesn't have a ton of money (like me!).  If I had a do-over I would probably wait a couple months, however.  Somebody told me Warframe (?) on PSN is addictive, but I haven't tried it out yet.
