Most Ridiculous Scare.....

Ok, i want everyone to post the most insanley stupid or ridiculous thing they remember being scared of. i don't want 'I jumped a little when michal grabbed jamies leg' type stuff, i mean truly frightening.

I will start........

My Wife: When she was a kid, she saw a made for TV movie with a mud moster in it. The creatures hand was severed and kept coming after the people. Her and her sister were terrified by this at age 6 and 8. She actually tracked down the director and asked if there is any plans for this to make it to DvD, and she was not along in looking for it. but an odd little thing to scare someone.

Me: Well, only 3 things ever really scared me. After seeing the Exorcist i woudl run scremaing every time the old trailer with Normal Face/ Possessed face flashing back and forth woudl come on. I also remember a movie about an indian burial ground where the female archaeoligist becomes possessed, with VERY cool make up for the time. but these make sense.

So ridicuous? When i was a kid i had a viewmaster projector. not this little crap plastic flashlight thing of today, but a real metal lamp projector. i also had the wizard of Oz set of slides. I woudl go in a dark room, set up my screen, light up my projector and go to town.

But every time i got to the signle face of the wicked witch, i woudl stare in terror and then run out of the room crying. And i woudl do it repeatedly, knowing that the next slide woudl be "the one". And i swear i could hear her laughting, swearing she woudl get me, but i could not resist. my heart raced, and i had to see her, to face it again.

guess i knew i was a horror junkie early on.

My son: Now this is the wildest of all. there was a McDonalds commercial a few years ago where ronald mcDonalds har had a bit standing straight up, and it woudl not let itself be combed. It made shaped and fought away from his comb. My son flipped a lid when he saw this. he woudl run from the room crying and not come out till the TV was turned off. He was sitting in front of me coloring one day, his back to the TV. All of a sudden he shoots up, sceaming for his life and runs to his room. i had no idea what was going on, and htought he hurt himself. just then the black screen faded and that commercial started. With his back turned, he could tell by the distinctive hiss of the lead in that it was coming. i was astounded.

Course, 3 months later, it comes on and he just watches it and ignores it. like a light switch, it was no longer scary.

So what are some of everyone elses weirdest and most ridiculous scares?

But my fave would be the first time i saw The Fog, which i love with a passion. And it was the scene where the body falls out of the cupboard, this was the first time i'd seen this now routine 'scare' and i do remember for a time after not being able to open my wardrobe wihtout having every possible light on in my room first.

This doesn't really have to do with the movie scaring me but an animal scaring me. It does have to do with Don't Worry It's Only Your Imagination. My friend was over one night, and we wanted to watch the movie at around 2 am to get at it's fullest effect. My friend went out to set it up at the big tv and I told him I would be right there. The hallway seperating my room and the room with the big tv was pitch black so I kind of ran through. When I got to the room I looked at the couch and no one was there, I firgured he was trying to scare me. He actually fell asleep, bastard. I kind of walked up slowly not knowing he was actually asleep and my cat just jumps out of the couch to the floor. It sounds stupid but this cat was a black cat so he blended in with the darkness and you could really see were his yellow eyes glowing in the dark, for those who don't have cats, there eyes do glow in the dark and it's creepy. What it looked like was just two eyes floating in the air which is scared the shit out of me. After that we watched the movie.

I used to be scared of the McDonalds characters when I was a kid. This was in the late 70s, and if any of you remember, they weren't nearly as fluffy and soft edged and kid-friendly then as they are now. The Hamburglar was downright disturbing, esp. with that horrible "robble-robble" noise, and Grimace was a completely intimidating and inexplicable horror. And Mayor McCheese? He has a fucking HAMBURGER FOR A HEAD! As a 6 year old, I knew that was MAJORLY fucked up, and not in a good way.

And don't even get me started on the fucking FRY GUYS. eek!

One of the things that still majorly creeps me out about The Shining (Kubrick's) is that dog guy who's giving the other guy a blowjob near the end of the movie, when the wife is running around. I don't know if that part is supposed to be weird or creepy, but my skin crawls every single time I see that scene.

Hell does anyone remember the big talking tree they used to have in the lobby? It would dispense morality after you touched it nose. Creeped me the hell out at first. After a while I grew to love the damn thing.

These guys became history in 1974 when
Sid & Marty Kroft won a lawsuit against
Mickey D's on visual similarites to
H.R. Puffnstuff, who scared me.

I used to be frightened of those grotesque Spitting Image puppets when I was a kid. Pretty dumb in hindsight.

And Ronald McDonald was legitimately scary. Eveyone knows that all clowns are scary by default, but Ronald was the most evil, black-hearted one of them all. Luring innocent kids into his shack and then turning them into happy meals. Prince of McDarkness.

The Blob (remake) scared the hell outta me as a kid. I would always look at the top of the movie theater before i got in my seat.

Also The Time Machine made me crap my pants when i was real young. My dad fell asleep while we were watching it, and I was trapped in the dark alone while those goddamn morlocks were creeping around everywhere...

I'd scream and cry my little eyes out every time i saw Twistid Sister!

(NOT A JOKE)

I was traumatized by that hitchhiker from Creepshow 2. Before getting into a car, I STILL look under it, just to make sure there aren't any mangled.. things hanging out under there.

And this one's pretty sad, too. When I was little, I was watching some cartoon. It was perfectly innocent. Then out of nowhere, these freaky BUTTERFLIES attacked one of the cartoon characters. I started sobbing and locked myself in the bathroom.
And I still don't like butterflies.

Oh, yeah. I'm also a victim of the Ronald McDonald phobia.. And mimes. They make me cry.

I remember watching Eyes Without a Face when I was very young on channel 11's Million Dollar Movie. That mask the girl wore scared the hell out of me. The part in Lets Scare Jessica To Death where the chick slowly comes out of the lake also comes to mind. Creepy wins out over the sudden jump scare with me any day.

Oh crap! Forgot about that one! Also Large Marge from Pee Wee's Big Adventure gave me nightmares for weeks.
