Don't be talking shit about Davros like that!

Just read that review from Harry.

what. the. fuck.

So maybe he's the next one to watch!

SoCal is crawling with childless annual passholders that visit Disneyland with more frequency than I go to Chipotle.

that's so odd to me...

You guys obviously haven't been visiting the Theme/Amusement Park thread

I know Brad does.

By the time I find a parking space at Disneyland, I'm already over it and want to go home.

gross

Childless adults over 30 who still go to theme parks are indeed a strange lot. I didn't know they existed until now.

Hard to let go of their childhood.

There are just so many better things to wait in line for, if you must.

Children can ruin the theme park experience. They're too short to go on any fun rides, they're too feeble to walk great distances (and need to be ferried around in SUV-sized strollers), they shit themselves, they're terrified of people in cheesy character costumes, they cry at the happiest place on Earth.

Honestly, you have no business bringing the little twerps there in the first place.

I'll be honest, if my 30 year old single ass got an opportunity to go to Harry Potter's Wizarding World or that new Star Wars attraction they're building where I get to sit in an X-Wing...

I'd be on that shit like white on rice.

...wouldn't sexually assault someone while I'm doing it though.

sure, but would you go two times a month?

As long as you go with friends, I think it's fine. If you're there on your own..... well, that could be a bit odd.

When I was at Disneyland last year (with my girlfriend at the time), we were in line at a food and beverage stand behind a mom and her adolescent child who was throwing a shitfit. "I don't wanna be here anymore!" the little purple fauxhawked moppet kept shouting. My gf and I gleefully impersonated him for much of the day after that. Then she nearly passed out from heat exhaustion.

Probably not, but I don't like crowds.

I don't know what folks who go there all the time really get out of it. I like attending Halloween-themed events when the parks have new stuff for the season, but just going on the regular seems like it would get boring fast.

hahahaha, I once did a 90 minute runthrough of Universal Studios alone in between two separate appointments while I was visiting LA last year

I just wanted to see what the new attractions were there since I hadn't been in a few years.  HOW HEAVENLY it was!  During the school year during a weekday afternoon, so the place was nearly empty!  No lines!  And just in time for the Harry Potter area to be doing a soft opening.  Got some candy/treats for friends back home.

SO EFFICIENT.

SO UTILITARIAN.

ungh ungh I hate crowds so much

I'd go to San Diego Comic Con with friends, spend barely an hour in the convention center and then just leave and tour around San Diego instead

MUCH MORE PLEASANT

90 minutes? That seems like a waste. I'd want to spend at least half a day there!

Save a mostly finished draft and now y'all are yapping Disneyland. If you are in your 30s and dont have kids you nor your friends belong at Disneyland. Fucking weird.

Anyway . . .

Was familiar with Knowles' name loooooooooong before I ever had any sort of online presence or knowledge of how these places worked. The first online community I belonged to was a forum devoted to physics . . . Physicsforums.com (Picklehead) . . . I think? The second community was half a dozen years later, and it was AICN (Turingtestee . . . terrible name . . . I saw 'Hans Bubi' and sighed). I wanted to talk about that mysterious trailer for Cloverfield. Had a very very very low key presence there. I remember Saxon (I made a comment a few years back here about recognizing his posts way back when . . . wasnt a joke), I want to say there's a handful of you folks here that I may have first come across there . . . VTRan (maybe?) come to mind as does Judas and a few others. Stopped posting in that community looooong ago, a year or two before coming here. Found the hostility too much . . . the quality of membership there was strongly lacking. The hate for Harry and the spoiled child cry of 'pwesents', the crazy strong bigotry and racism that oozed like foul smelling puss from that place (a popular forum for the alt-right before there was an alt-right, right?), and the absolute dirth of any intelligent discussion to consume drove me from there after a year or two. The Harry hate . . . god, are there more dedicated mouth breathing fucktards among the dedicated mouth breathing fucktards of this social media world than the dedicated mouth breathing fucktards at AICN? Not that i cared about the guy. Looking back was he just blessed with luck in that early mid 90's WWW. world? Anyway . . . huh, kind of bummed about this. Honestly, I don't want it to be true.

Edit: "Not that I cared about the guy." Not true. Not true at all, damn it. I did . . . in a way.

the only reason you'd spend half a day there would be because of the lines!

even the super short mummy ride didn't piss me off because there was no line!

if I'd waited in line for 90 minutes for THAT ride, I'd have felt cheated

Back in the day, the real community and good discussion was happening in the chat room over there. Talk backs have always been a hell hole, though.

It's amazing that in the last like 5 years the talkbacks have just existed for the community to shit on Harry Knowles. And also on Herc, who deserves it.

What's the story on Herc?  I only know the name, but have no sense of the person.

I think he just used to do the week's rundown of news on the site?

Back when I used to visit AICN, I enjoyed Masswyrm and Quint's reviews. That was about it.
I hate that this threads subjects ruined a Jim Gaffigan joke I loved about how Comic Con people looked at adult, childless Disney goers and thought "What a bunch of weirdos"
So, what are online film critics going to call their gangs in jail?
Aside from "Everyone's Bitches"
Hopefully "squirts" remains only a euphemism for Quint's readers.

I wonder why they even bother to still use pseudonyms over there. It's not as though they're still getting contacted by secret sources within the industry and revealing all of Hollywood's secrets anymore.

consistency of their BRAAAAAAND, I guess

TV guy, enormous sense of entitlement. Just a few nights ago he got drunk, started shit on the comments, banned anyone who called him out on it and when he realised he was wrong he banned the other people involved so the post history would disappear instead of just apologising in private. Even when I visited the site, which hasn't been for about 10 years or so, he came across incredibly smug so it's clearly only worsened over the years.

At least Masswyrm went on to bigger and better things, Quint is sadly still there.

Talking of Masswyrm:

Weird that he didn't see any of this going on but, hey, maybe he was in denial whilst it was happening. I can see that being true. Sometimes you just want to see the good side of people you're friends with.

Herc once made the argument that Star Trek (2009) was superior to Return of the Jedi.  When asked why in the comments, he would just repeatedly point at the movie's respective Rotten Tomato scores.  I was amazed he could write any sort of review.

If he had said Star Trek into Darkness...

Can't remember the last time I visited AICN.  I do remember the time they posted a major scoop I submitted about Panic Room a century ago.

Anyway, my issue wasn't with the opinion (even as I did disagree with it).  It was the "I have this raw statistic on my side!" awfulness.

Can Harry even afford a crisis team?  Didn't he steal a bunch of money from a kickstarter to buy a car or something?  Whatever happened with that?

I recall reading stories about AICN being in deep financial problems. This one is from four years ago.

If this story keeps building traction, I'd be surprised if the site is up by year's end.

...and now Nick has posted on Facebook about regretting entering this business.  Dammit, sir.

Goddamit. Nick has always been a class act.
So sorry to see these douchebags ruin it for everyone else.

I don't regret bonding over an AICN article that spent multiple paragraphs on Cameron Diaz dancing in Spider-Man underoos with a guy in keyboarding class that would go on to be my best friend.

I don't regret posting an embarrassing thread on here that ultimately convinced me to get divorced from my first wife.

I don't regret writing for CHUD or BMD.

But I do regret that I can't really trust any of the online film critic community anymore.

Or in the words of Friedrich Nietzsche, “Not that you lied to me but that I no longer believe you has shaken me.”

I have it on good authority that Nietzsche cultivated that mustache so that he could inconspicuously lick his lips whilst ogling his fanatisches Mädchen.

Nein helden.

To be completely fair, these men would have destroyed themselves with sexual harassment scandals regardless of what career field they had pursued.

Faraci, probably, considering that the one assault situation happened before he had a name anywhere, but I'm not sure if a guy like Knowles would have ever had the temerity without the delusion of influence. To be honest, I've met worse guys with far more disturbing attitudes towards women. None of them friends, but I've encountered enough guys who can't even fake normalcy. One of them wanted to be a cop, if that tells you anything.

By the by, Scriven, I don't mean to minimize your feelings on this situation. It's probably somewhat easier for me to make light of it based on my personal distance from it.

I think a lot of this behaviour has to do with a frustration of having perceived power and influence but still not finding any success with women.

Basically they don't understand why the girl who had no time of day for them in high school still won't return their calls.

"Don't they know I was flown to an advanced screening of Batman and Robin???"

Which then transforms into white-knighting.
