At long last, the third in George Romero's famous zombie trilogy Day of the Dead will finally hit DVD on April 29th, courtesy of Anchor Bay Entertainment. Featuring stomach-churning gore effects by legendary effects wizard Tom Savini, this horror classic comes uncut and uncensored in a feature-packed two disc set. Specs include a brand-new THX-certified 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, remixed Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround EX and DTS 6.1 ES surround tracks, an audio commentary with Romero, 2 featurettes, still galleries, the complete screenplay, trailers, and a collectible booklet. Retail is $34.95.
Woo hoo! Can't wait!

Announced for a March 4th debut is yet another edition of Sam Raimi's Army of Darkness (aka Evil Dead III), the two-disc "Broomstick Edition." Full details have not yet been released, other than that the set will include both the theatrical and extended cuts of the film (both previously available) and collectible packaging. Stay tuned.
Doh! Broomstick Edition? How about Give Me More Of Your Hard Earned Fucking Money For Something You Already Have Four Times Edition?

The saddest part is... I'll probably end up buying it. I'm such a whore.

I'm guessing they mean "Boomstick" edition. Unless they're going with a witch theme...

Well im ok with that because I havent bought army of darkness yet. Ive been trying to get the best edition out there, so I've been on ebay but their 2 disc set is real expensive. So another 3 disk set......perfect, but will it have everything on it that the original 2 disc set offered?

This is all good news to me. I can't wait for Day of the Dead. That is going to be one great DVD. I was confused on which Army of Darkness DVD to buy so I still just have my old VHS tape. Since the last Evil Dead release was in a matted widescreen format, I'm sure we will get another Evil Dead in it's original format Book of the Dead edition. I'm also holding out for the next edition of Halloween. I didn't know if I should get the THX edition or the extended edition. Can you say consumer confusion?

Anchor Bay UK are also releasing the Near Dark special edition in a few months, for any Euro-folk who haven't got the R1 release.

Incidentally, any multiregion UKers who don't have it, Cd-Wow have it for £10.99. Bargain!
