PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING (2018) Pre-Release Thread - Page 8

This looks like the spin-off cartoon of Pacific Rim that would have aired on Fox Kids.
This looks so much better than PACIFIC RIM.

Don't @ me.

I disliked Pacific Rim and this looks even worse.

I swear, CHUD must be the nexus of the Internet where Pacific Rim appreciation reaches its zenith.

I still can't believe how many pages you guys got to talking about the first one.

Before Uprising comes out the studio will be tracking the "conversations" about the movie, and notice a strange anomaly, wherein 90% of the conversations in English-speaking countries are all coming from people who share one place in common: here.

I was going to say that Burn Gorman's face looked at its most punchable in this trailer but then I went to his Wiki page and OH SHIT

I have to strap both of my fists down when this picture is on my screen.

This is incredibly unsurprising coming from you.

I know it's hard to believe but when certain movies accurately capture the scale of giants robots fighting giant monsters , that fans of those genres will be excited for them because it's a melding of two of their favorite things into a fun, city destroying package.

Unlike READY PLAYER ONE, this movie bleeds nerd goodness from every pore.

I mean, you don't really need the "fun, city destroying package" bit, 'cause PACIFIC RIM ain't all that fun. You really just need giant things punching each other and members here will lose their shit.
I'm a moderate fan of Pacific Rim; some different casting and a better end sequence would make it an all time classic.

This new one looks like junk tho. The Jaegers are moving without the weight and momentum they had in the original. It seems much closer to Transformers or Power Rangers than Godzilla.

Need I point you to the last couple of shitty Bayformers for proof that this assumption is false? PR was fun and the sequel seems to be turning that up to 11 and I love it.

The Jaeger technology has evolved since the last film and it looks like it's going to be needed judging from the kaiju we see in the trailer.

Yeah, it's the feel of the thing tho. The first one felt like building sized machines grappliong with each other. This feels a bit more like dudes in suits running around a model city.

Well it is a Western interpretation of Mech-Anime and Sentai, so, of course it's gunna look like Power Rangers. Strange comment.

Feel bad for Fett, fight the good fight buddy, but this looks bad. Has the awful daylight CGI sheen of the recent STAR TREK BEYOND. Along with awful soundtrack choices. May I recommend the Ulraman Orb movie?

Not a strange comment at all. There's a clear tonal difference between your average Power Rangers zord fight and the Hong Kong brawl in Pacific Rim.

Funny you should mention the ULTRAMAN ORB movie. I've got that on tap for the weekend! biggrin.gif

Did those Kaiju merge to form an even bigger Kaiju?

If the Jaegers can also combine to form an even bigger Jaeger, I might have to excuse myself from the auditorium.

"There's something you need to see... we've included cogs of combination into the latest upgrade installations."

"And I'll form the head. Now lets cancel this apocalypse! Form blazing elbow rocket punch sword!"

It looks like there might be at least one "evil" Jaeger. He's shown fighting Gipsy Danger in a couple shots. I wonder what that's all about. Maybe we'll have different countries battling it out with their mechs à la Robot Jox.

I noticed that sequence as well and it's definitely intriguing.

Watched this trailer a couple times now and man oh man I'm stoked for this.

I just found an interesting quote from Steven S. DeKnight about that Jaeger:
Quote:
You know, there's a lot of conflict in the world. When this movie starts, the disaster zones from the first movie are still recovering and there's the Kaiju worshippers out there that we saw some of in the first movie. And there's a criminal element. You know, everyone is looking to capitalize off the technology that the [Pan Pacific Defense Corps] has spearheaded. So there's some nefarious activities out there -- I can't say exactly what's going on, but that other Jaeger's pretty badass.

That sounds pretty badass.  Can't wait!

I'll burn the theater to the ground if that Tupac-soundalike GIT IT ON TIL I DIE song isn't in the film's final cut. That's my fucking jam now.

Well, at least this one takes place in a world with a sun.

CRASH AND BURN and ROBOT JOX. Unappreciated B-movie giant robot classics.

I for one welcome a non-GDT giant robot movie!

Despite my everlasting, undying love for Ron Perlman....I think Hellboy is the only thing I've EVER been glad that Guillermo del Toro is not directing. God knows I wish he'd have done Blade 3 like he WANTED to do if New Line had just waited for him to finish Hellboy (at least that's what I've heard happened).

But even though PR2 isn't being directed by del Bull, my recent 180 on the first one guarantees I'm still gonna be there with bells on..

Looks fun but which buffoon chose that horrific rap song?

Or am I just an out of touch fogie?
You are totally out of of touch if you think Tupac is horrific. Tupac is G.O.A.T.

Seriously. Controversial life aside, he was one of the greatest musical personalities ever. Pac had much more to offer than most of the 90's gangsta rapper crowd and there's a reason why his music still resonates today.

I don't think this was one of his actual songs he recorded during his lifetime. It seems like a remix track done after his death.

You can never be too old to enjoy a different musical genre, BTW.

Is that Tupac? I never did collect his whole body of work. I really do want this one track for my playlist of motivational jams, though.
Yeah, that's Tupac. It's a song called Untouchable from one of the numerous compilations released (and remixed into different versions) after his death.

It's an enjoyable song, but I feel most folks should just stick to the actual albums recorded by Pac himself to get a sense of his talent.

Wait...they play Tupac over the trailer for Pac2??

I just clicked on the trailer for the first time because Fraid bumped the thread, and my nine year old kid who was in the room with me has gone completely nuts for it. I imagine the first one would bore him, but this, unadulterated cartoony monsters versus robots, will have me buying hard to find secondhand Pacific Rim action figures off ebay before the weekend is over. If they market this for the 8-13 crowd for the Easter holidays it will make all the money.
