Why not bump off Bruce Wayne in The Batman and have Dick Grayson take over?
Probably because Grayson sucks so hard.

Just recast the damn character has been 5 guys in 30 years keep the door spinning.

Jodie Whittaker should replace Ben Affleck.

I'm not too worried about this. There's no way Affleck isn't in The Batman (if it gets made), as it's too late in the game for Justice League to exit the character stage right. And four movies over four to five years ain't all that bad.

Disagree. Either they write in the transition of the in-film role of Batman to someone else during the next JL film, or they just do a soft reboot for The Batman. Reeves allegedly has a trilogy in mind, and Affleck's just getting too old for this shit.

Don't recast. It would be too jarring.

Let's try something that hasn't been seen in a Batman movie for once. Let's kill Bruce Wayne and see how the universe responds to it. Have the League have to deal and let's see how they handle it. Have others step into the role of the Bat. Hell, DC is known for its multi-verse. The possibilities are endless.

I liked Batfleck in BvS because it was a new take on the character I hadn't seen on the big screen before. A pissed off, unhinged Batman/Bruce Wayne. Give me something different than we've seen before.

I think this is a tremendous opportunity.

The only way I'd see a different character stepping in as Batman is going the Batman Beyond route and set it in the future. Otherwise, keep it Bruce Wayne.

But I would see a Batman Beyond movie. With Michael Keaton (or Clint Eastwood) as old Bruce Wayne.

I'm calling it right now: this is just PR hardball. Justice League will do well, with people loving Affleck's Batman (and with the psychopathy toned down, people won't have to caveat their love), and he'll back be in the game for The Batman.

Just.You.Wait.

What an odd time to release this news. Isn't he at Comic Con for the Justice League panel tomorrow? I doubt he'd be there to announce his retirement from the role.

I'd bet a buck on that.  We're certainly not going to see a non-Bruce Wayne Batman on screen, just like we're not going to see a non-Steve Rogers Captain America.

Are they going to retitle that next movie "The Batman?".
"Where Is the Batman?"
Tagline - "He's at home washing his tights"
'I'm Batman', then 'I'm Batman, Too', and finally, 'Elseworlds: The Batmen', where they get Keaton, Kilmer, Clooney, Bale and Affleck together in a dimension-hopping death match plot.

I seem to remember the critic who shall not be named suggesting this as a potential Justice League 2 plot. Doing Crisis on Infinate Earths that is.
Keaton training McGinnis.

I know it would never happen.

This is strange news

http://screenrant.com/harley-quinn-vs-joker-movie-spinoff/

Harley and the Joker could be in either Gotham City Sirens or Suicide Squad 2 or The Batman. Just like Batgirl could be in Gotham City Sirens instead of her own movie.

I really feel like this is the same idea that keeps evolving behind the scenes.

The WB panel is at 5:30 EST.

Maybe everything will make sense at that point. Maybe it won't.

I'm betting it won't.

I just want to know if something, ANYTHING, is greenlit and moving forward after Aquaman.

I really hope a book gets written about the BTS mess that is the DCEU someday.

Batfleck gets mortally wounded fighting Ras Al Ghul, goes into the Lazarus Pit, emerges as Young Actor Yet To Be Named.

BOOM!

Yes and Stan Lee should be on the cover giving the finger.

Nuke the franchise from space.

Hire Matthew Vaughan to make a new Superman movie, and go from there.
I don't see how everything is all the sudden going so wrong so soon after Wonder Woman was a complete success unless everyone behind the scenes really know that Justice League is gonna be DOA in November. Hell...they seem to be changing so much, is it even still getting released in November?

Joss better be a miracle worker.

The simple answer to why everything is going so wrong is ZACK SNYDER. He may have outlined the story for Wonder Woman but, other than casting the central actress, he allowed other people to turn that concept into a cinematic success. Alas, his smudgy fingerprints are everywhere else and he clearly had no idea what he was really doing with this franchise beyond making things look pretty. Kevin Feige may step back and see the entire MCU as though he's looking through a telescope but Snyder quite obviously sees the DCEU as though he's looking through a gloryhole.

Exactamundo. Sure, Snyder may no longer be personally involved in Justice League but Whedon can only do so much: the spine of the movie is there now and it's probably as broken as Batman's back in Knightfall

It's also important to remember that no one knew if 1) Wonder Woman would actually be good and 2) if audiences would respond.

WW's success has probably only deepened the confusion and chaos, not clarified it.

I guess it's important to realize that although WW may have made WB/DC's path clear....they're still stuck with something that was made pre WW's success..

I don't think it's made anything clear. They're still scrambling with any apparent plan or strategy. Very much just throwing shit out and seeing if it sticks in any way.

It's just so fucking weird. That they want to allow for more directorial input, supposedly, and perhaps go for a weightier tone to their films is fine and valid, esp. to differentiate from the MCU. But wholly ignoring the planning and underlying creative lessons of the MCU and flailing for 4+ years now is unfathomable.

It surely has clarified what a priority they should consider Wonder Woman from here on out..

And yet they do have a plan.  Get to Justice League as soon as humanly possible.

WB still just trying to one up Marvel Studios.

"So Marvel Studios only exhausted Joss Whedon? We'll show them... we'll kill him!"

I think part of the problem is they keep trying to imitate and measure themselves against what the MCU is doing right now, as opposed to applying the lessons from what Marvel was doing 5 years ago, at the equivalent point in the franchise's development.

That's all too likely. Especially given how they went from MOS  straight to their own mini-Avengers team up, with no build up or work done.

Just announced in Hall H: The Flash movie will be based on that goddamn Flashpoint "grimmest and grittiest alternate universe ever!!!" storyline. Oy ge-fucking-valt.

Ben Affleck: "Let me be very clear. Batman is the coolest fucking part in any universe. I'm so thrilled to do it."

Is this an actual quote?

Yes. Followed by "And Matt Reeves making THE BATMAN? I'd be a fucking ape rolling around on the ground for Matt Reeves, nevermind being Batman, so come on..."

Also "They said they want me to be their Batman, and I believe them."

That's good news, at least.

You see, this is why I keep quiet whenever these rumours about the DCEU pop up. Cause so far they've ALL been total bullshit.

And people jumping on them because they conform to their biases makes me smirk.

Ben Affleck is a good actor. That's not me trying to, you know, imply anything, but...he's a good actor.

Hopefully Justice League is a big hit and he'll get some positive reinforcement in his life with the whole Batman thing.

The Flash movie will be Flashpoint?

That means Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Thomas Wayne Batman.

JL2 no longer on the slate.

No mention of the Vaughn-helmed MOS solo follow up.

MOS 2 not being on the list isn't surprising. I'd bet if Justice League does well JL2 gets added.

MOS 2 not being scheduled means, to me, they still don't fucking get it.

Superman is the heart and soul of the DCU. He's optimism, idealism, and righteousness personified.

If you say you totally get that you messed up and you want to strike a more optimistic tone, and you DON'T have Superman at the heart of it, you Don't. Fucking. Get. It.
Well...Perry White just jumped to Marvel. So there is that.

We live in crazy times when being in the SEQUEL to freakin ANT-MAN is not only probably better for your career than being in a Superman movie but also the film likely to gross more. I feel like I've slipped into an alternate reality..
