To the point of having fanart mock-ups and costume design done? I also remember Thomas Jane wanting to be Jonah Hex and Andrew Bryniarski dressing up as Lobo (he also did a fan film IIRC).

I guess. I give more credit to the CG artists really.

This isn't a parody thread? Really?

It should be.

Yeah well, Jane dodged a bullet there. Fat lot of good it seemed to do him long term, though.

So is DC fast-tracking the Supergirl show to compete with Marvel's Jessica Jones (Netflix) ? They sound identical in premise...

"Superpowered girl solves mysteries episodically."

The difference being that one will actually be good.  We all know which one it is at this point.

Yeah, neither.

Both shows I'm kind of a blank slate on.  Kind of like Agent Carter.  I could have cared less until that show proved to me it's actually pretty darn good.

It's a lot of fun (and this is coming from someone that finds Agents Of SHIELD to be a constant disappointment), and Atwell is absolutely killer in it.

Agent Carter is ridiculously good.

Very disappointing news.  It had seemed like, with MacLaren, Wan, and Lord/Miller WB was going to have less of a house style than Marvel, but I guess they just wanted someone they could control (especially frustrating because historically WB doesn't have a goddamn clue how to handle Wonder Woman).  Wonder if we'll hear about the specific "creative differences" that led to this (maybe tied to the origin?  Rumor has it the cinematic WW will have the nu52 "child of Zeus" origin).

I know some are hoping Marvel snatches MacLaren for Captain Marvel, but personally I'd rather see her direct something she has total control over.

I'd just be thrilled if she directed a couple or few more episodes of Game of Thrones in the interim.

GOT director makes mythological based superhero movie for Marvel... "Meh. Guy shoulda stayed in tv".

GOT director leaves DC's mythological based superhero movie... "DC/WB doesn't know what they're doing! WW is RUINED!"

I don't think that's entirely fair. MacLaren was not only recognized as a fantastic television director who deserved her shot at the big screen, but was also a woman working in a field where 99% of her colleagues are men. Alan Taylor had none of the above in his favour. I don't think one necessarily equates to the other, and therefore neither do the reactions given to them.

So Alan Taylor wasn't a fantastic television director who deserved a shot at the big screen?  Guy arguably directed more great episodes of TV than even MacLaren.

WHUT

It is true that he doesn't have lady parts. Can't deny that.

Did you hear people clammering for an Alan Taylor movie based on his television work? I certainly didn't, whereas MacLaren has had a vocal fanbase for quite some time now.

MacLaren came from Breaking Bad, which allowed it's directors way more leeway than GoT. Directors' episodes were extremely identifiable which is what led people to believe MacLaren would be perfect. Hers were consistently some of the best. Taylor, on the other hand, it was hard to tell what he was bringing to GoT and what was part of the overall style the show had developed, so it's no surprise that people weren't really sure what to make of his hiring.

What does that have to do with anything?  You said MacLaren was a great TV director who deserved a shot at the big screen, as well as a woman in a traditionally male profession, and then that Taylor didn't have either thing in his favor.  He most certainly had the fantastic TV director who deserved a shot at the big screen thing in his favor, as far as I'm concerned.  (No matter how he may have botched it... though I thought Thor 2 was an improvement over the first film, and better than a couple other of the Marvel movies as well.  But the new Terminator movie looks like an abomination.)

This.  Shit the whole reason I know MacLaren is from BB.  Because I thought those episodes were amazing and looked up who directed them.  This is why I always got excited when she had an episode on Game of Thrones.

Tried watching Green Lantern a second time. The first time I only made it 30 mins in before turning it off due to boredom. This time I lost track of when I stopped paying attention. I kept the film going this time but didn't have my headphones on by three quarters of the flick. I'd occasionally look at what's happening on the screen and then resume whatever I was doing. It's not terrible, it's just so unremarkable that nothing really grabs me and I find myself getting distracted either thinking about stuff or just looking at my phone. I had high hopes for this back when it came out because it's a rarity to get a DC film that is not a Batman or Superman picture.
The most memorable thing (for me) about Green Lantern would be the three leads who were supposed to be childhood friends despite the fact that the actors playing them were wildly different ages.

I still think it gets points for Carol immediately recognising Hal with his mask on. That's it.

And don't forget Peter Sarsgaard's weird screeching.

The scenes at OA aren't too bad as well.

Blake Lively sure isn't very lively.

“Black Adam is gonna kick Superman directly in the dick” - Dwayne Johnson.

How have he and Snyder not worked together already? They seem like Channing and Wyatt Russell in 22 Jump Street.

I've never heard of it either!

Oh it's the Star Wars Holiday Special of the DC universe.  Infamous.

I totally watched those when I was like 6. In fact, I managed to talk my father into recording them on our first gen VCR (with a cable that ran from the VCR to the "remote") then proceeded to watch the damned tape until it was rendered useless.

In retrospect, it's truly insipid. Horrible.

I saw this on TV as a wee lad and then thought I'd imagined it. But it was real. All. Too. Real.

Still better than STEELMAN.

NEVER FORGET!

Quite a day for DC today.

The new Suicide Squad Trailer. Looks at the new Justice League members. Wonder Woman (2017) footage.

So did you like what they showed us so far?

Suicide Squad looks more fun than I thought it would be (although that is probably just the trailer cut). The Wonder Woman footage looks interesting but I would like to see more footage of Gal Gadot acting. I have seen her in nothing so I am not sure what she can handle or not.

I wonder if Gadot will be using her Brazilian accent for WW.

Entertainment Tonight just confirmed Amber Heard's playing Mera, Queen of Atlantis.

Sounds more like casting that would occur for a Transformers movie.

She's a good actress.  There's way much more to her than a hot ass.

Mera's a fun character who's been getting a real push from DC since Blackest Night.  Wouldn't have necessarily pegged her to show up in Justice League, but cool that she is.  Of course, she'll probably be a two-minute cameo and WW will still be the only female member of the team.
