If they actually do a Shazaam movie....even if the film is meant to be a little lighter in tone, that suits gotta go. Homage it? Fine. But do it EXACTLY? Hell no..
Must disagree, Fraid. White embroidered half cape or NOTHING.

I think there’s room for Captain Marvel if he’s used sparingly. His own whole film MIGHT work if it’s an origin story leading to a dust-up with Black Adam, because that can be self-contained. Out in the world, you really have to save him for big moments where the rest of the heroes are totally hooped and someone completely pure of heart is needed. You can handwave it by saying he has to spend a certain amount of time as Billy or he won’t grow up normally or something.

Yeah, I think the right approach for Shazam is to go for something like the tone of the Jeff Smith miniseries - don't be afraid to be goofier and more earnest with it. If you try to grimdark this story, you've fucked up something fierce.

And the costume being sillier totally fits with the character. He's a 10-year-old's projection of a superhero. He should look a little ridiculous.

That's what I'm saying.  He's not JUST a tiger who walks like a man, he dresses like a stone cold PIMP on top of it.

Please tell me he's a major character.

He's made a lotta money shilling Frosted Flakes..

Oh, yeah. Mr. Tawky-Tawny is one of Shazam's most prominent supporting characters. And he's fucking awesome (and his suit game is pretty much always on point). His most memorable recent use was in Final Crisis, where he stone-cold kills Darkseid's son Kalibak in a hand-to-hand (er, paw-to-paw) fight.

In terms of his general characterization, he's Shazam's equivalent to Alfred, if Alfred was also a walking, talking tiger.

GIVE ME THIS SHAZAAM MOVIE NOW

Yeah, I dread the idea that they might go with the "New 52" Shazam story, which was, in fact, an attempt to grimdark the Shazam story from front to back (making Black Adam straight murder his nephew to seize his power, Billy's a foster kid with a bad attitude, etc...)

After IRREDEEMABLE, no one ever needs to do a story about a super kid in the foster system ever again.
Maybe he gets rescued from the orphanage early on by Tawky Tiger-Pimp.

Oh in my dreams he does!!!

Forget Shazam. Let’s just do a movie about the talking tiger.

I thought they intended to skip Shazam and make a Black Adam movie with The Rock as Black Adam? What happened to that?

Johnson's Black Adam project has been evolving for years now. The Shazam movie is what that project metamorphosed into, if I'm not mistaken.

Well this needs to happen now.

RIGHT???

Like, just picture it:

All these spiky and metal Parademons and New Gods flying around and who can stop them? Suddenly...BAM! Upright walking Tiger dressed to the nines shows up and brings the beatdown.

Give Sean Connery a Truckload of money to come out of retirement for a minute and do the voice.

Tawky Tawny is clearly a Kingsman.

Oh no! The tiger has questionable old Scottish man attitudes about women?  What a twist!

Honestly, Colin Firth is probably the best casting choice there is for that role.

The grimdark nu52 Shazam tried to downplay Tawky Tawny by making him just a normal tiger at the zoo that Billy likes to visit. Fuck that. Full-blown suit-wearing debonair talking tiger who knows how to throw down or GTFO in this movie.

Mark Strong in talks to play Dr. Sivana in the Shazam film:

No offense to Mark Strong, but this means they're going w/ the shitty grim-gritty Shazam reboot as inspiration. A true Dr. Sivana would be Wallace Shawn from the 1980s or, failing that, Paul Giamatti. Unless they mean to have Mark Strong growl about how he's going to defeat "The Big Red Cheese!" with a straight face.

David Bradley or GTFO.

He certainly would nail the laugh.

LEAD villain in the movies.

Though I have to give you credit for my start.

Fuck Suicide Squad 2

I keep trying to get excited about Justice League.  The trailers make it look like they're having a little fun with it and more Gadot and Momoa in my life can only be a good thing.  But...

It is so deflating that they also make it look like the entire second half of the film takes place in the same smoldering cigar butt where they fought Doomsday in BvS.  It makes the concrete tarmac of the Civil War brawl look lively and dynamic by comparison, and at least the costumes popped against a backdrop of drab grey.  It looked like an actual place, albeit a drab one.  JL's climax looks like it takes place in a setting that is as unreal as it is boring.

It looks like the climax takes place in one of the later levels in Doom..

Unreality.

I was going to see this just to watch a cinematic hodge podge of styles, but if this can`t clear 35% on RT by opening day I'm not even going to bother.

There's only one DC Villain Mark Strong should be playing. He's played him once already and he should be given another chance!

Seriously.  The best part of Green Lantern may have been Strong's final scene.

Why isn't Green Lantern part of the DCEU?  MAKES NO SENSE.  Reynolds has to be under contract for sequels, just activate them, forget GL exists except as an origin story, and bring him back.

Sinestro would have been a big enough villain for Justice League, IMHO.

I’m still baffled by the decision not to make GREEN LANTERN, warts and all, the launch film for the DCEWWW the same way IRON MAN launched the MCU. MAN OF STEEL could have followed with ties to the previous film. For all it’s many flaws, it tried to have fun.
Oh man, I was so excited to see Green Lantern. Then I saw Green Lantern.
The best part is how all three leads are supposed to be the same age, and the actors span three decades.

As a Man Of Steel fan (it's my fave DCEU movie), I agree. Haven't seen Justice League yet (might go on Friday, as the word-of-mouth has been better than I expected) but the general opinion seems to be that Superman is one of the best things in that movie, and that they've finally got him right.

There's a shift in his character that is handled well-enough conceptually, but needed more time to breathe. A Man of Steel 2 could spend time fleshing that out and get into his head about this change.

Or, as I argued over in the Justice League thread that we actually see him with a warm, compassionate smile in BvS when he's handing off the Mexican girl to her family, expand on and earn the conceit that he's been like this all along.

Doubt it will happen. I like STEEL but most people don't seem that fond of Cavill's take, and he'll be too old soon. Haven't seen LEAGUE though.
Blue your first sentence gave me chills.

I’ll also add that I saw this theatrically.

I have my doubts that the movie ever happens, but age isn't a factor at all. He's 34 right now, and the decade-older Affleck was frigging ripped as Batman just last year.

Sure, Cavill could still be ripped as he gets near, or past, 40. But unlike Batman Supes doesn't age. I think.
