Evil Dead the tv series on STARZ

Groovy.

This is truly interesting, because this is the Evil Dead 4 we've been hearing about all these years, only better because it's in the modern days preferred format, with the modern days preferred number of episodes, etc.

My biggest concern is worry that they give me more Army of Darkness and less Evil Dead 2.  I love Army of Darkness, but 2014 adult ass me isn't really interested in something new that feels like that movie.  I want a little bit of genuine darkness and chills in this thing.  Bring just enough of the remakes tone that this thing has some teeth and I'm 100 percent in.

It's such an interesting thing because depending on what movies tone they're borrowing from this could be a very very different series.

I doubt it will be remake dark. Personally I'm looking forward to seeing Ash as an "aging lothario" more than anything else. That sounds great.

This will basically continue where ARMY OF DARKNESS left off. Hopefully they're using the original post apocalyptic ending as a springboard.

BRING IT!

Well if you read the description it looks like they are not.

I like it too but that original ending is a lot of fun. I can't believe they're finally doing a TV show.

My body is ready.

If Ash is still working at S-Mart when it starts, it'll have my loyalty for a full season.

The article suggests Ash is doing some kind of retail job stocking shelves. Has to be S-Mart.

Bruce Campbell in a new Evil Dead fits along with a new Pixies album as something they probably should've done in 2004 when there seemed to be a genuine hunger for it, and it seemed like some impossible dream. But now when they finally get around to doing it in somewhat compromised form after endless umming and ahhing, and after we're well used to being indulged with disappointing 80's throwbacks, I don't find myself that thrilled by the idea.

Also the only Evil Dead IV I ever wanted to see was one set in the dystopian future ending, which this probably won't be.

But hey I'm sure I'll check it out.

Ehh I wouldn't call it a compromised form. They will probably have the biggest budget they will ever have and like 10 hours to tell the story. Look it certainly could end up terrible because Raimi isn't controlling EVERYTHING and it actually feels too good to be true. However they have the resources to make it good and they are on the right channel, no censorship!

I re-read the press release, and unless it is a typo, every episode is suppose to be a half hour. So more like 5 hours.

The thought just struck me that this so-called "cable TV show" is likely going to have a larger budget than any of the Bruce Campbell Evil Dead films ever had. Even Army of Darkness only cost $11 million to make.

I just read the article , where does it say that?

EDIT" Damn you are correct. Thats weird.

Considering the nature of the series after ARMY OF DARKNESS it doesn't need hour long episodes to flesh out a simple story.  I forgot about ARMY OF DARKNESS 2, I wonder if they're just going to do the show instead of trying to find funding for another film?

Actually the half hour eps don't seem right to me honestly. Don't know why but it feels like that won't be enough time.

Yeah, I was surprised to read that the series is going to be a half hour, too. But, to be fair, the Evil Dead movies always had short running times.

Also, I'm sure at least one episode of the series will be directed by Scott Spiegel.

That's what I thought, but the idea's starting to make more sense to me. Assuming the show has the same fast, cartoonish pacing as the movies, 30 minutes an episode could work fine.

If it works for the "paintball" episodes of Community, it can work for this property hopefully.

Just read an interview with Bruce. Currently in pre-pro for filming in NZ. There was a bit more detail about thr supporting characters. Raimi is directing the first ep!

Lucy Lawless joins ASH VS. EVIL DEAD!!!!!

She will be playing the character of Ruby in the unofficial Xena reunion, a "mysterious hunter who is “myopic” in her quest to search out the source of the recent outbreaks of Evil. Unfortunately for our chainsaw-handed hero, she believes Ash is responsible for the chaos."

There's also an awesome summary of the show:

Quote:
“Bruce Campbell will be reprising his role as Ash, the stock boy, ageing lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons –personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its ‘Evil’ grip.”

Cannot wait.

It's going to be awesome! Cannot wait!

That teaser implies this will be gorier and more well-shot than Army of Darkness (which looked like an episode of Xena half of the time, even with Bill Pope). Fingers crossed!

I saw AoD again on the big screen recently and thought it looked great. I mean, Southern California can easily double for Medieval England.

Between Lucy Lawless, Mimi Rogers, and Starz, is it too much to ask for copious premium cable nudity?

The blonde who twists her own head around and instantly becomes a Deadite has me really unnerved.

Between the awkward comedy and the genuinely kickass action & horror, I cannot fucking wait for this.

This is my favorite trailer this year.  Easily.

It is pretty fucking great. I'm definitely watching Evil Dead 1 & 2, Army of Darkness and My Name Is Bruce again before this lands.

You can probably leave My Name is Bruce off that list.

I was cautiously optimistic but the comedy and horror tones in this trailer have me completely sold now. So perfect.

Now I just need to get Starz for a month when it premieres.

Well if you can wait (I know it's hard) until the time when the last 4 episodes air then you can just watch them all on demand and then dvr the rest, then cancel. Most conpanies if you ask the right way will give you a couple free months or ones for very reduced rates like 6 bucks a month.

I have to disagree. I see Bruce/Ash here, especially considering the self-aware nature of the comedy post-Army.

Also, he apparently lives in a goddamn trailer down by the river. For Christsakes he doesn't even work at S-Mart!

That said, I'll probably include Bubba Ho-Tep in my Bruce/Ash marathon just to balance the awful & embarrasing.

It's nice to see something directed by Sam Raimi look like something directed by Sam Raimi.

Oz The Great and Powerful can suck a dick. I HATED that movie.

I know I was bitching about being worried that this would look cheap.  I should have known better.  It's so gorgeous.

This looks like the perfect counterpoint to the Walking Dead. I'm in.

I would love it if they brought in guest directors for different episodes, I'm sure there are a lot of directors out there who jump at the chance to play around in the comedy splatstick universe of those films.

I've thought about trying to wait and then watch them all On Demand but I don't think I can wait. I saw AoD in theatres when it came out back in '92 and I had watched ED2 that my mom rented from Blockbuster to get ready for it after a kid in my gym class described the first half of the movie in great detail for a bunch of us. I've been a super fan ever since.

You're right though I could probably convince Dish to give me Starz for free for a couple months. All I have to do is sign a new contract for the rest of my life.

YES!

Better than I could have hoped for. It looks like exactly what is needed.

Honestly whenever I complain to Comcast they just throw movie channels at me. I currently have Cinemax and Showtime free for a year. And I got BHO for free for 2 years when I signed up for a 2 year contract. Im about to go into my second year at the end of July. Around October im going to complain about my OnDemand service that just keeps dropping audio once in a while and im thinking about cancelling, contract be damned!

I am so fucking pumped. The trailer was amazing! I never thought we'd see Bruce Campbell as Ash again. I'm thinking about posting with my original name again on here that I used when I originally signed up EvilDead1981.
