The love of bad movies!

Thread Starter
Often while discussing good horror movies, I see people who completely denounce anything even approaching schlock as bad camp.

I realize that some only want to watch genuinely frightening flicks and shudder at the thought of willingly sitting through a movie with Vincent Price, or if it had one of the Doctors (always a sign of something)

Well, I am hear to declare my love for these movies! For the Tingler! The Gorgon! House on Haunted Hill! I don't care that they never explained the hand! That movie with the bats or maybe they were insects! I don't know it's title, but I'm sure at least Christopher Lee was in it!

Declare your love for a B-Movie classic!

Blood Feast! Blood Freak! B-movies... you light up my life.

'Blood Diner' is a guilty pleasure of mine. I put on dark glasses and drive to a video store on the other side of town to rent this one. How can you not love lines like this: (spoken by a still-living brain in a jar)

"If I only had my schlong, I'd teach you the true meaning of machismo!"

What's not to love about "The Brain?"

Here, the braim that is controlling a small town's population through television, attacks and kills a doctor by attaching itself to his face.

GREAT WHITE!!!! I thought I was the only one who had any kind of love for that movie!!!!

I'll throw in for Street Trash, the Boogens, Spookies (with the farting monsters), One Dark Night, 976-Evil,

just to name a few...

I don't mind that people have their own opinions, I just hate it when people don't like a certain movie and shit all over the people who do.

There's just something rude about people who just slam people for the movies they like.

And the people who do all the insulting act like self-proclaimed experts of what is cinematic gold.

Sticking feathers up your ass does not make you a chicken, and watching horror movies does not make you a movie expert.

So I say, enjoy what you enjoy. Love all the bad movies, good movies you want.

Someone's garbage is someone else's art.

As as matter of fact, I'm doing a Night of the Demons marathon this weekend. Watching them all back to back to back. I can't wait...it's been too long and I LOVE the first one (I don't really remember the others lol).

No I wasn't saying you were at all, I was agreeing with you that "people" denounce anything that they don't like, and then slam the people declaring their love for a certain type of movie.

I dig what you're sayin'.

Addix, you doll. A Kevin S. Tenney-penned marathon. Inspired.

Hell you should go the whole hog and stick the Witchboard trilogy and Witch House in there too...Tenney is an unsung genius of the B movie
post #16 of 55
Funny thing is I caught Great White the week it was out as well back sometime in the early 80s...

My dad took me...ahhhh. memories...Like the corners of my mind....

I picked up a copy of it at the last Fango con for 5 bucks...Sweet deal...But damn if it did not hold up to time well...

Very silly story and terrible shark effects...

Man I haven't seen Witchboard in years. I used to love that movie when I was younger. (I've never seen any of the sequels though...that I remember anyways). Heh...this is going to sound a little strange coming from a heterosexual female, but god damn Tawny Kitaen is one fine creature when she is possessed. That voice used to give me chills too.

Hmmm...I have Witch House so I suppose I could throw that one in too.

"Strange" ? I think the word you're looking for is "arousing". Not me of course, I find that sort of thing not in the least bit exciting (shut it, Butane).

Ah, sweet over-acted Witch House: Linnea Quigley, meet shower nossle (and not in the way most would like).

Well said, dude.

I don't believe in watching "good bad" movies. If it's a bad movie, I won't watch it. Got better things to do with my time. Stuff I watch is stuff that I genuinely enjoy.

I unabashedly love many B movies. Some because they are excellent, others because they are so damn funny.

A partial list:

Night of the Creeps
Elves
Nailgun Massacre
Night of the Demons
Jack Frost 2

I absolutely fucking love Blood Diner. You've got cannibalism, nazi wrestling, hypnosis, nude cheerleader arobics, island music, deep fried heads, a dubbed-voice police chief ruling over the 70's detective and the Janet Jackson look alike, the creepy ventrilquist's dummy, the talking head, the body of Sheetar made up from the body parts of many immoral girls in order to have a Lumerian feast (there hasn't been one for two million years) so that Sheetar can rise from the dead.

Absolute classic. "Drop the cleaver Anwar!"

Ghoulies 1 & 2 (never seen the rest)
Critters
The Gate
Parents (am I the only one of the 3 people who saw this here?)

And by the way, I have a Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things dvd I'd gladly trade with someone for something weird (tm) and shlocky!

I pulled a Foywonder a few nights ago and did a marathon viewing of Spiders, Arachnid and something else with scorpion things that I fell asleep during. Preposterous fun.

Speaking of Foywonder if you read this I recommend Blue Monkey for ya. It's right up your alley. I think they paid Steve Railsback in cocaine.

Good! I'm not alone! *sniff*

I remember thinking it was weird and quirky and great, how you didn't know whether the kid was imagining things or if it was all real. Can be a cop out, but in that case it was great, imo. wink

Also, and I know I'm the only one here:
Pinnochio's Revenge eek!

Seriously, take away the stupid title and the dumbass cover art, and you've got a solid little flick. No, really. Don't look at me like that, I'm serious! wink

Everytime the subject of obscure horror films comes up, that's the one I mention. Not sure it really belongs in this category, though.

Anyone ever seen an 80s movie called Rollerblade? About girls in bikinis with switchblades running around a post-nuclear forbiden zone?

The House of Long Shadows. Gotta love that cast-- Price, Lee, Cushing, Carradine... and Dezi Arnez Jr.!

A lot of mine have already been listed, but I didn't see (and might've missed):
The Stuff, The Mangler, Popcorn and The Nest.

SLUGS! They kill you if you let them attack you really slowly!

FUNHOUSE! That sick freak from the sideshow is just misunderstood... and a bloodthirsty killer!

RAZORBACK! It's Jaws on land... with a killer pig!

ORCA! It's the story of Moby Dick, only reversed... the whale has a crazy vendetta against Richard Harris!

Umm... I never saw the first Witchboard. (What's wrong with me?) But I like parts 2 and 3 quite a bit.

We had a Sleepaway Camp marathon (all three) a month or two ago. The ending to the first film may be one of the most notorius final shots in a horror film.

Scotty

What other genius could come from the mind of Bob Balaban ? Is Parents available on DVD yet ? Such a wonderfully subversive picture that would work fantastically in a double bill with something like Heathers as an attack on quaint surburban family values...

They don't make them intelligent like that anymore (although Donnie Darko comes close).

"My Boyfriend's Back." Which I will go ahead and add to my list...though it is a zombie comedy (and as far as that goes, add both Elvira movies as well.) But I saw My Boyfriend's Back in the theatres and own it on DVD. Love it.
And Parents is great. "Mom, what are we eating?" "Leftovers." "What were they before they were leftovers?" "Leftovers to be."

BAD CHANNELS!!!! I saw it for my birthday a few years back. And it´s SOOO bad! A must-see for all bad movie lovers! I laughed the whole movie, so much I got stomach aches...

Another one is Wild Zero that is just wonderful. It´s impossible to take it serious but it´s fun! It´s like... Spinal Tap meets Zombies get into a threesome with Mars Attacks or something... Wonderful

FUNHOUSE is NOT a bad movie, dammit! My favorite Tobe Hooper after the obvious. Simple, but effective. I need this DVD, even if it is barebones pan&scan.

But on the Tobe Hooper tip, how about LIFEFORCE ? Just a glorious mess. I have that one on dvd.

WRT the Parents love here, it warms my heart. This was one of those I rented on a whim from hastings back when I was watching 3 horror movies a night, systematically going through their whole horror section (mid-90s). Such a surprise, such a great flick. I hope it is on dvd, b/c I want to see it again now.

And I know it's a gimmick, but something about that last scene STILL disturbs me, even knowing what's coming. I think it's the animal noises the subject is making, and the totally wrong body/splice special effect that still works. Good stuff.

Sleepaway Camp II has one of my favorite gratuitous sex scenes in the genre, along with one of the most UNSTOPPABLE MULLETS OF ALL TIME!
Goodtimes' The Funouse DVD is bare bones but a joyous widescreen affair. Mirroring Carpenter somewhat, Hooper may have a ridiculous diminishing returns-type thing going on at the moment, but the man knows (knew) how to frame shots like a god at one time...
I saw one called Terrorvision (I think it was called) when I was much younger. That was one weird film although I seem to remember enjoying it plenty. Haven't seen it for sale since though.

And a flick called The un-nameable returns (I think). It is extremely loosely based on Lovecraft (well really just the lead characters name) and features a gargoyle creature and a female who spends much of the film naked and is actually quite hot. In fact it is probably the most sustained bout of nudity in a horror film since Lifeforce. (another classic, simply for the music and naked woman alone!)
That would be the delectable Julie Strain I beleive. Or was she in the first one ? The first picture's better at any rate. John Rhys Davis is killer as the dusty old Prof.

It's directed by Dominique Othenin-Girard (sp?) of Halloween 5 fame who made at least one other bad-horror-with-tits Hellspawn, which was extremely similar to the baring-little-resemblence-to-Lovecraft tale.
