Game of Thrones season 5 - Show Discussion Only - Page 75

If they ever give the show the best drama Emmy, it will be the final season a la "Lord Of The Rings". A thank you from the industry for overall achievement.

I think Lena Headey has a real shot at Best Supporting Actress.

She should. But I kinda suspect Mad Men will basically sweep through most everything.

Well, I really enjoy the show, but I wouldn't give it Best Drama either. They don't do a Most Entertaining Drama category, or it'd have a much better shot - like a lot of my favorites over the years.

Did I just see Tormund in tv ads for Wyndham Hotels?

They've been airing for a while. Yep, it's him.

Yeah Game of Thrones will go down as one of the greats, but it was not the best drama during any of the years it's been broadcast thus far.  Now, that's probably a testament to how fantastic television has been.

Breaking Bad wasn't awarded until Season 5A/B.  I mean, definitely talking apples to oranges between BrBa and GOT but I could see a reward for the final season.

Just getting nominated every year of its existence is sort of a win.  No other genre show has come close to that since the original Trek.

Yeah, Hannibal would like a fucking word with anyone griping about GOT's award intake.  I think this show has surmounted the genre curse simply because its status as a bona-fide phenomenon is just too undeniable.

So looks like the show will officially be going for 8 seasons or more.

I just hope they don't drag it out unnecessarily.

It's all Martin's fault, I bet.

They will have to drag the show out so it keeps at least some synchronicity with his slow ass books.

They've addressed that several times.  No, they're not obligated to drag anything out if George can't keep up.

Season 6 will see Khaleesi recruiting a newer hoard of Dothraki to replace her mostly ineffective Unsullied. Season 7, Dany will accidentally lock herself in Xaro Xhoan Daxos' vault with Tyrion and Varys and they wait all season long for Greyworm and Daario to find the key but they sit pointlessly outside the vault playing their sword holding game.

Season 8, Dany is recast and replaced by Jennifer Love Hewitt and she starts seeing ghosts of all the dead cast members from previous seasons of thrones and decides to not play the game or go to Westeros.

D&D have always said it's possible they'd go to eight.  Looks like they've relented on that.

I'll worry about that when the show has a season that isn't my favorite thing on TV by a comfortable margin.

Nope. This season will spoil the next book (unless he releases it before April). And there is no way he's writing another 1000 pages in 2 or even 3 years, so it won't buy him any time with regards to the final book. These aren't Harry Potter books. They are not only long (Each of these last books is the length of the whole "Lord Of The Rings"). They are written in a POV character style that actually makes writing the books the equivalent of writing 10 novellas that also have to be coordinated into a unified story. It's nuts. Plus, Martin is getting much slower the older and more complicated the books have become. They cannot stave off the inevitable. Sooner or later, the show will spoil the books (It's actually begun this season)

So Season 7 and 8 will spoil the final book anyhow. That's pretty much a truth. Adding a year ain't gonna buy Martin anything.

The fact is, it's the biggest show in the world and ratings continue to grow higher every year. Of course, HBO has been pushing Benioff and Weiss to go further than 7 years. They said this last year. They said it at the premiere of this season. The truth is it's only in the last couple of seasons that they started declaring 7 as what they were aiming for. It was always about projecting up to 80 hours before.

I'd bet anything that season seven will be "THE FINAL SEASON: PART ONE" eight episodes, then a year long wait for "THE FINAL SEASON: PART TWO" another eight episodes. That's my guess anyway.

And guys, please...don't be childish. Tired of people gnashing their teeth at the man who created characters and lore that you love. Yeah, he's taking his time? GOOD. I'd rather it be good then quick. In ten years what are people going to remember, the content of the story itself or how long it took to make it?

How long it took.  100%

Seven seemed too tight, but I'm good with eight, it's a nice even number. Of course, this is based on not knowing exactly how much story they have left to exhaust here.

Sure.  The trouble is that the books that Martin knocked out in a relatively short amount of time -- A GAME OF THRONES in 1996, A CLASH OF KINGS in 1998, and A STORM OF SWORDS in 2000 -- are considerably better than A FEAST FOR CROWS (2005) and A DANCE WITH DRAGONS (2011).

Well, writing a story's beginning is easier than writing its middle. Martin's probably wishing he'd done a trilogy.
