It just seems like such a wasteful thing for a movie version of the Joker to do. It would get all of 30 seconds of screen time.

But I guess it makes sense considering Warner Brothers gave Snyder enough money to film 30 minutes worth of superfluous material for Batman V Superman.

So what if it does get 30 seconds of screen time? It's the Joker. If it's part of a weird monologue scene or a confrontation with Batman and it works in context, then there's nothing to complain about - despite you bizarrely finding a reason to do so out of nowhere.

Spoiler-free clip introduces and explains The Enchantress, showing her transformation.

http://youtu.be/hM20Q2_9KkM

There's more life and invention in the one shot of her hand than all of BVS. It's also completely in line with her mythology: The wild spirit bonding and taking control. I am going to love this movie.

That last line is weird. Is that a commanding order, or like a show of enthusiastic support?

Does it have to be one or the other? Out of context, it almost felt like Waller egging her on to cow the gathered me and get her (Waller's) way.

Both!

Sure. Whatever you say.

Thank GOD, after that post I realized I didn't have Trombone Cookie's approval. I went through three brown paper bags doing my breathing exercises, just waiting for it.

That's stellar as shit. All of it. I love the baby clothes (wtf?!) and the dismantled piano in the final shot.
There's another Harley Quinn clip out there, but I recommend you don't watch it. It seems like a good movie moment.

I'll give Suicide Squad this: it doesn't look half-assed. They went all-in on the Hot Topic aesthetic and because they committed to it so strongly, it actually seems to work.

They're not half-assing anything here. DC really seem to be pinning their hopes on this one.

Expectations in check and all that, but if this lands, I expect all of the dealers and prostitutes in Los Angeles to be backlogged through August.

After BvS, it's pretty much their hail-Mary pass.

Yeah, the more I see, the more I want. And I'm absolutely loving Leto's Joker.

The tracking for this film is pretty great, so I expect it to deliver at the box office. It's Guardians with an edgier coat of paint.

And that's about all I expect it to be. But it's nice to see something that appears to have some actual panache.

Leto has the same "nasal to growl" thing that Ledger did, but the look and physicality makes it its own thing. As mentioned much earlier in this thread, there seems to be a lot of Azzarello's Joker mixed with some Grant Morrison material and their own thing with tattoos and bling and all that. I initially felt that the latter element was something I'd just have to get over, but I've come to embrace it. It's ballsy, especially since we're seeing these characters established as occupying the same universe for the first time. It's slightly off brand in an interesting way.
I'll give him this, I never thought I'd prefer to be in the same room as Ledger Joker instead of Leto. He's got the "dangerous pyscho" vibe down.

I get a rock star vibe from Leto's Joker and that works for me.

Can this movie just reset this whole fucking thing because it actually looks good.
Deadpool and GOTG were big hits. People want colorfully irreverent right now.
I'm pretty sure that what people want is what they normally want: something that looks good.

I will forever hate the forehead tattoo but I've definitely come around on the metal teeth. They really add further danger to his smile.

The good thing about the forehead tattoo is that the script is so fine it's actually pretty easy to ignore.

I've never done a more dramatic 180 than the one I have on Leto's Joker. The more I see of him, the more I like him. That 'Where is she?' was legitimately fucking creepy.

I am SO looking forward to this one. I just want a DC movie that most people like.

Jesus. In a marketing sense, the WB is forming Voltron.

Oh hey--another plot culminating into stopping a beam of cgi light all while whomping on cgi villains.

Cool beans

Yeahhhhh

My interest level just dipped enough to make this a rental.
I noticed it too, but so what? Who gives a shit?

My nerd credentials might get revoked for this, but I don't get this reference.

"Suicide Squad" was a pretty good movie.

Oh, wait, that was the trailer...

I do!

Not enough to turn me off something completely not does it necessarily preclude it being something well done and fun... but it's a pretty tired/rote climactic finale for any 'ensemble crew of superheroes' movie.  I get why it's done, but yeah.

It is the least appealing thing in this new trailer, but it's surrounded by elements with exceedingly rare amounts of appeal for this kind of thing.

Frankly, I was too busy being astounded by what increasingly appears to be an actual performance from Jai Courtney to be bothered with the cliched blue light.
Hahah fair enough

I didn't watch the clip linked.  I'm doing my best to stay away from seeing too much from something I plan on seeing.

The climactic blue light with lots of CG cannon-fodder thing is something that deflates these kinds of movies for me the same way that I was a bit let down by the finale of Winter Soldier despite how much I loved that one.  Iron Man Three loses me with the big CG finale too.

It's the same thing when I'm disappointed whenever COLLATERAL ends with a tense chase.

Foolish of me to expect different of what is gussied up genre entertainment, but I cannot help it!

If anything, the fact that everything else about Suicide Squad seems to try to look strikingly different only makes the idea that it ends with what could be a routine finale even more disappointing.  But who knows???  Maybe it'll find some new twist on that too!

Well, there's always the Joker, who is the wild card here.

Yeah, I'm not watching any more clips. Probably already seen too much with the three full trailers, but I want to go in as fresh as I can at this point.

This trailer is mostly what it's advertised as: a remix of stuff we've already seen. We only get a little more context about the purpose of the Suicide Squad from Waller, and a sliver of interplay between the cast that are extended from clips we've seen by mere seconds.

Otherwise, it's mostly a "Thanks for being supportive and excited, guys." sort of thing. I still couldn't tell you how this plays out or at what point The Joker enters the fray.
So is the Joker the villain in this or is he just sort of making life difficult for the anti-heroes?

I assume a little from Column A, a little from Column B.

Pretty sure it's the latter. I'm still thinking that Enchantress is the "villain", or at least the "problem", but it's not clear. There's also another character who may or may not be in the bulk of the trailers who plays into this in some way, but again, they seem to be obscuring more than is readily apparent.

(I actually suspect we've seen most of his scenes from the film. I think he's going to be used relatively sparingly, and isn't the prime big bad.)

Yeah, he'll be a minor presence that pops up to toss a spanner in the worKS at a critical moment.
There's something out there that I read that explicitly states his motivation, but I'll leave it be in case some or most of you haven't been made aware of it.

I understand if you don't want to watch these. But what do you all think?

Margo certainly sells me on Harley. Not only does she bring the accent which is appreciated, but for the first time she feels truly crazy, which is great too. She nailed it.

Nice to hear the accent as well. Can't wait to catch this.

And the four note nod to the Elfman theme as she's saying "Batsy."
