It's been a good year for horror...

All in all, it's been a very very good year for horror & me. Horror is one of my favorite genres, and admittedly one I'd really left behind these last few years. But a breakup with a Horror-hating ex-girlfriend, a few well place film festivals and a general resurgance of the genre really got me back into the thick of things. (Not to mention many of the corner's recommendations, which must be creditted with a large percentage of the films listed below.) So, all things said in done, here's all the GOOD to GREAT stuff that was burned into my retina this year:
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">House of 1000 CorpsesHouse of 1000 Corpses
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Below
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Devil's Backbone & Blade II (Oh yes, I'm a Guillermo-Man now!)
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">28 Days Later
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Undead
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Beyond Reanimator
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Ringu
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Jeepers Creeper 2
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Dagon
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Haute Tension
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Final Destination 2
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Identity (thriller, horror... whatever.)
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Freddy vs. Jason (ok, BIG letdown, but fun nonetheless.)
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">There's probably some omissions, and some entries that don't deserve the spot (I'm lookin' at you, Freddy!) but still, DAMN that's a lot of good horror in one year's time. Either it's a dvd I unearthed or a movie I caught in theaters, I can only hope next year brings so many good horror titles. Now I don't wanna get into a which-movie-is-better discussion here, but my point is we bitch and moan a lot about the state of horror, but if we look back sometimes we're surprised at just how much our favorite genre has given to us lately.

So how about you guys? Any flicks you've seen recently give you hope that horror/splatter isn't dead yet?

The tremedous sucess of big bidget hollywood fare like final destination 2 and Ring, and the sucess of smaller budget fare like May and the like give me lots of hope...and think of what we still have to look forward too with the TCM remake and Gothika...busniess is about to pick up

May certaintly belongs on that list. My god what an amazing performance Bettis does with that.

I'm in the same boat as you. I've hit the theater a crap load more this year than last and have rented more than I have in a good long while.

Jesus McFuck! No shit, yeah I definatly forgot May.

Actually no, wait. I'm BSing. I've yet to see May. (I know, I know. I've been bad.) But I will. Oh that there is no doubt.

Oh yeah, I forgot Dog Soldiers too. One thing I'm kinda kinda sourred on is the whole creepy-little-girl thing in horror movies. Enough already. They're creepy, we get it. If this keeps up I'll never have any kids.

Agreed. At least one good thing can come from having Republicans running the show.

While we´re mentioning May... anyone who knows when it might reach Europe?
