2015 College Football Season - Page 2

RB James Conner for Pitt has Hodgkins Lymphoma. Best of luck to him and his family--I worked with a guy years ago that had it and he was able to fully recover. It's a cliche, but something like that puts your whole life in perspective--maybe sports isn't something to get so crazy about. I know getting older and having a family has sure calmed me down as far as FSU goes--I mentioned it in another thread...I had a chest xray done for a physical about 3 months ago, and they found a "shadow" on one of my lungs. After a lot of hand-wringing and second opinions, I finally had a CT scan just before Thanksgiving, and thankfully (pun fully intended) there was nothing there. It was just a "confluence of shadows" on the xray. Considering my wife has gotten breast cancer twice now, we were due for a break, I guess.

In other news...Mark Richt is the bell of the ball at UM now, Kirby Smart goes to UGA, but South Carolina still doesn't have a head coach, even though it's one of the major college coaching jobs that's been open the longest. The "other" USC sticks with Sarkisian's replacement...I guess we'll see how that goes.

At 3 seasons, Butch Jones of Tennessee is now the longest-tenured coach in the SEC East. Silly.

Will Muschamp appears to be the leading contender for the South Carolina job. Sorry, South Carolina.

When asked for comment on the SC job, Will Muschamp replied, "FUCK! SHIT!"

I blame Missouri and Texas A&M for all of this.

I'm so tired of Alabama.  They're just so bland.  I mean yeah, they do the fundamentals well, but it sure isn't fun to watch.

If Florida had a real QB, that's probably a different game.

So if Stanford and Clemson lose would they really give the 4th spot to North Carolina?  I hope not.  That SC loss is so bad plus they scheduled t busters.  Then again it probably means Ohio State gets it.

If nothing else, tonight made the Heisman race interesting. McCaffrey had over 100 yards receiving, returning, over 200 rushing, and a TD passing, rushing, and receiving. Insane. And Deshaun Watson is having a huge game too. Speaking of boring Alabama, I really hope Henry doesn't win it.

Ah, South Carolina. Never change.

So will the Selection Committee give Alabama a break and move them to #1 so they don't face Oklahoma in Dallas or move Michigan State to 3 and Oklahoma 4?  I hope they keep it the same with State moving to 4 but I know they will give Alabama a break.

It makes sense why they'd move MSU up.  Oklahoma sat idle this week.  I don't think that amounts to giving Bama a break, it's just common sense.

Hopefully Connor Cook's shoulder can heal fully between now and January.

I am dreading ND facing an angry, top-two talent laden OSU, if they both go to the Fiesta Bowl.  At least if they were in the playoffs they might have gotten their pants pulled down by Bama in a game that means something.

If 5-7 teams can play in bowl games, then bowl games have outlived their usefulness. Get rid of them.

I used to think the same way, but Mike Greenburg made the point that aside from the three bowl games in the playoff, these don't mean anything except an extra game for some teams and a nice trip for the players.  And it kind of makes sense.  This isn't the "post-season" in the traditional sense.  They're glorified exhibition games.  If some 5-7 team gets an extra game, who is it really hurting?  Just don't watch the game.

I did think it was funny though listening to Danny Kannel this morning bending over backwards to justify why Stanford got screwed by not being in the playoff.  I've never heard anyone try to write off two losses harder than he did.

I breathed a huge sigh of relief when they hired Muschamp. Thanks, Cocks.

This Twitter exhange over the weekend made me laugh:

It's 2-0 after 1st quarter. Do I even need to tell u which conference championship this is??

Did Stanford get screwed?   I think USC is a good win, but they'd already beaten them this season.  I'm not sure that extra win outweighs one more loss than Oklahoma.  I wouldn't have been outraged had the Cardinal got in, but I don't think they were screwed.

He was arguing that "no one is playing better football right now than Stanford."  Well that's great, but why weren't they playing good football when they lost twice?

Ah, sorry... don't know how I read that so completely backwards.

Otherwise known as the Florida State argument from the early 1990s.

Yes--FSU would lose early (normally to UM) but by the end of the season, they'd be the "team no one wants to play right now".

Got my tix to the Peach Bowl for 12/31. Didn't get to go to any home games this year, so I'm excited they are coming to Atlanta again this year.

And one more giant officiating screw-up at the end of a game for the ACC. They admitted the UM/Duke screw-up but didn't take the win away from UM, and this one was huge as well. Although you have to admire their complete confidence in how quickly they made the call and just plowed right through with it, even though it was obvious that no one was offsides.

The Lee Corso footage from when he was coaching Navy was awesome on College Gameday this morning. I do not watch College Gameday as religiously as I once did but Army/Navy is one I always try to watch and it did not disappoint this morning.

That Army/Navy game was pretty entertaining. Crushing for Army, though.

BuwahahaHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Go Navy!

So, I'm going to the Peach Bowl tomorrow...there was an article in the AJC (the local Atlanta paper) yesterday that was simply, "Another sad return in Atlanta for Florida State" and the content was basically "On the bus ride to use the GT practice facility, FSU passed the stadium where Georgia Tech beat them earlier this year, and their kicker said, 'Wow, we lost there.'" That was the entire content of the article. The writer for the article was "Staff".

Time for the big boys of the big Ten to step up today after the Spartans humiliated themselves yesterday.  What a joke.  If Meyer would have run Elliot I'm sure Ohio State would have put up a fight.

Really hoping Northwestern can pull out a win.

I watched the first half of the Fiesta Bowl and, despite liking Ohio, I'm not compelled to watch the second half...

Treon Harris, ladies and gentlemen.

What a shitty ending to this season.  At this point, the only thing that will salvage the bowl season is a NC game where Bama loses on a bad call in the fourth OT, thus causing Nick Saban to quit on the spot and head to the NFL, and Dabo to praise Jesus so hard he spontaneously combusts.

These horrible bowl games is why I can't follow college football more closely. Games that are blow outs yet hyped up beyond description. I'll take the parody in the NFL all day long.

The NFL is definitely a parody.

Big win for the Vols yesterday. Looking forward to a preseason top 10 ranking next year before the inevitable letdown.

Time to kill the bowl games, replace them with playoff games and extended the playoffs to 12 teams. No body gives a shit anymore, and neither do the teams. Time to make the post-season mean something.

It means extra money to the schools.  And if you are a player at Western Michigan and you have the option of going home early or going to the Popeye's Bahamas Bowl-what would you rather do?

Eventually they will get to 8 playoff teams-5 Conf champs and 3 at large bids.  Though each will have to cancel one cream puff game.

I think Tennessee might finally be getting good again.

The greatest thing to come out of bowl season so far is this:

THERE ARE 6 CALLERS AHEAD OF US JIMMY!

Trevone Boykin is realizing how easily replaceable he is.

So ESPN is having to negotiate with advertisers to the tune of about $20 million because of lackluster ratings for the bowls, particularly the two playoff games. Expectations are already in the shitter for next year's ratings, but the CFP committee is dead set on having the games on NYE again.

Nobody is talking about the Championship?

This game has been better than every NFL playoff game thus far.
It's better than I certainly thought it would be. 2 of 4 games this weekend in the NFL, however, were still better.

I'm sorry for not having more thoughts other than fuck Alabama and fuck Nick Saban, but that's all I've got.

Oh, I guess I am sorta glad the Bible thumping geek didn't win it.

Too many big plays given up by the Clemson defense. Watson was better than Coker but Alabama was the better team, slightly.

I agree with you on Alabama and Sabin. Who is this Bible thumping geek you speak of ?

Howard Stern on the news yesterday said his nickname for his penis is "Dabo Swinney".

I went to bed and it was 24-21 going into the 4th quarter. Couldn't believe the final was 45-40--they almost doubled the number of points they both had scored in the first 3 quarters. Clemson's shitty special teams finally let them down.

FSU starts 2016 by playing Ole Miss in Orlando. So if FSU beats them, and they beat Alabama in 2015, that makes FSU the National Champs automatically for 2016, right? I'm assuming I'm right.
