I would definitely put a scene where a greasy looking white hunter stops to collect the tails from some dinos he pouched, only to get snacked upon by a T-Rex.

Does anyone really see him that way, though?

He has a scene in the helicopter where he basically says, that's something they won't be taking with them and drops the bullets.

It plays somewhat like a hero moment, in my opinion.

It does. Nick's character is pretty much the only reason things go to shit on the island.

The movie?

Wait, can we talk about the fact John Hammond put the testing grounds on a safe island and the fully functional theme park on the island with an active volcano?

"Spared no expense."

I assume the aesthetic of it. They put poisonous plants out there because it looked good.

“We thought it was DORMANT!!!”

(Sad trumpet)

Not a huge fan of the hook that EW has reported, but whatever.  We all knew it was going to be hackneyed and contrived getting the characters back to the island.  That's par for the course.

I'm more curious about where it goes from there. Get the dinosaurs off the island and then what? Jurassic World: San Diego?

Baryonyx is the finless little brother to the Spinosaurus (which should still be alive somewhere, right?).

I'm just really happy they aren't leaving the island.  I figured they'd try to go bigger and different, and the franchise doesn't need that sort of departure from the formula.  More bottle-stories on the island(s), please.  Until the end of time.

I wonder if at some point, Universal will give the OK to take the franchise into "Aliens" territory, and let the humans fight back with actual weapons. The series is getting really repetitive with the "dinosaurs attack, humans run" level of action sequences.

Given that it took four films until we ever even saw a human being shoot a dinosaur, I'm guessing ... never?  Unless there's a spin-off film or Netflix series, something along those lines.

No.  No, they do not.

Especially considering he disappears from the last quarter of the film. No resolution to his “heroic” deeds.

The volcano makes it interesting and gives the story some urgency. Malcolm comes in and is like, "You know you're just playing with fire."

Cause it's liquid hot magma, get it?!

No, I'm fine with the story. My biggest fear is just them playing up the goofy relationship between Owen and Claire. What we need is some professionals as characters again acting like adults.

The volcano/island bit might only be the first act. From that little tease above with the T-Rex, it looks like they may succeed in getting the dinos off the island and the film goes in a different direction.

*slowly turns gaze to the Big Island of Hawaii ... and technically Maui, as well ... along with a bunch of other inhabited islands around the world and several National Parks ...*

I wouldn't pay it too much attention.

For me, everything after the first movie are just really high budgeted B-Movies, hence why I'm a strong advocate for Dino-Human Hybrids and Dinos with Guns.

Also, is B.D. Wong in this one?

I don't really fault the writers for only being able to come up with hackneyed stuff. The original - first film I saw at the cinema - is one of my favourite films. But its premise is so elegant - 'Walt Disney resurrects dinosaurs for a theme park' - that it's only really good for one proper story.

You can then do -

1. A re-tread, a la Jurassic World, which will inevitably feel cynical and insecure. (I liked Jurassic World, but its subtitle may as well have been Jurassic World: Cynical and Insecure)

2. A horror-focused island survival story - which can be good for dinosaur thrills, but will be a lot less interesting than the park setting.

3. An out-there, sci-fi schlock genetic dinosaur picture - which is just tonally at complete odds with the series so far. John Williams theme doesn't fit over raptors carrying machine guns.

4. Other?

B.D. Wong is in EVERYTHING

Not everything needs to be Citizen Kane.  Give me my dino island adventures every 3 years!

Yeah, there's really only so much you can do with the idea of "dinosaurs on an island."  I think the best we can hope for (and I am optimistic about FALLEN KINGDOM) is for some inventive scenarios and setpieces, and new, interesting dinosaur species.

Man, the dinosaurs toys from Dino-riders were awesome. So awesome, the Smithsonian asked the company that mad ethem for just the dinos (sand lasers and humans/aliens) to sell in their museum stores

I meant if you did both together would it be like this? But with dinosaurs.

Yeah, Dino-riders were great. Only ever played the Dinosaurs for Hire game that came out around the time of Adventures in Dinosaur City.

Fucking love militant Flipper.

No, guys, I got it.

Make the dinosaurs all robots.

Robot dinosaurs.

Make it happen.
I suggested this in a thread many years before Jurassic World even began production, but maybe they could include some Cenozoic beasts into the mix? Some wooly mammoths and sabertooth tigers could spice things up.

But then that would turn JP into a live-action Ice Age sequel and would negate the point of a park with "Jurassic" in the title. So nevermind.

I just think they should keep remaking Jurassic Park/Jurassic World.  Some new wrinkles.  But same plot, every two years.

...Huh.

It shouldn't be a volcano, but an asteroid the size of Texas that's headed straight to the island. Luckily Claire, Owen and Owen's raptor pack happen to be the best deepcore drillers in the world.

Is Blue the one who sacrifices himself to save Liv Tyler while my face explodes in tears?

No, Blue is the one who puts people crackers in her underwear.

Could be lots of fun to hear Williams’ Orchestration of Jet Plane.

Stop that, that scene started me on my animal cracker fetish. Sure it makes it hard to sleep on those crumbs afterwords but it's worth it.

Stupid sexy animal crackers...

They should be dinosaur crackers though.

Bearded Ian Malcolm!

Bearded Malcolm and Carnotaur finally in a Jurassic film ;)

Is it a trailer or a behind the scenes vid? I’m scared to watch.

Kinda both.

I had fun with JW the first time around then immediately soured after realizing how much of a TFA-esque retread of the original it was.

The look/sound/tone of this seems a lot more promising.

Well, minus the sense of wonder, suspense, and the steady hand of a great director.
