2015 MLB Thread

3 days to go until the trade deadline and it's heating up. Royals are all in for this season. After picking up Cueto they just added Ben Zobrist from Oakland.

Even with the murmurs of the Rockies wanting to move Tulowitzki I was still a bit surprised they went through with it. Toronto's lineup is silly but still no pitching. The Skydome's turf is gonna be murder on Tulowitzki's body.

Rockies also looking to move Carlos Gonzalez.

I'm an Astros fan, and while this season has been a hugely pleasant surprise, I find myself expecting much better things from them after having watched a half season+ of quality baseball. Hopefully Kazmir can live up to the billing, but we really need to get our lineup solidified (getting back Lowrie and Springer will help there).

Also, Carlos Correa is better than all of us.

Strom are fine. The AL is weak this year.

Kazmir was a good pickup. He's not a guy I'd want to offer a huge deal to in the offseason but as a rental he should aid in getting Houston to the postseason.

Lot of talk about Hamels. Would like to see him end up with the Giants but on the other hand their success has come in recent years through more "low-key" moves. They tend to shy away from the top dogs.

Giants shouldn't bother. It's an odd numbered year.

Phils send Papelbon to the Nats for a AA pitching prospect.

Cubs fans lament. They were hoping for him in the Chicago 2015 World Series thread.

Don't really care about papelbon.

Carlos Gomez goes from Brewers to Mets. Justin Upton and Tyson Ross have left the 6th inning of their game to possibly head to the Astros. Jose Canseco says he plans to live life as a woman for one week.

Edit: Gomez deal scrapped. Upton and Ross not yet traded. Canseco still intends to live life as a woman for a week.

Hmmmm..... what the fuck are the Braves doing with this Dodgers deal?
It just makes no sense.

And Jose Canseco is still alive? Who knew?

David Price "reportedly" going to Blue Jays. More importantly, David Price not going to the Dodgers.

It feels weird that the Yanks haven't made a move yet.  Conventional wisdom would say they need a 2nd baseman or a starting pitcher but I would love to see them go after a guy like Justin Upton.

Dustin Ackley to the Yanks.

Looks like Championship #28 is in the bag.

It's just sickening to me that the evil empire Toronto Blue Jays are out-spending everybody to go all in for this year while my budget-conscious Yankees are stuck in neutral.  I've been saying it forever, we need financial equality in baseball people!

12 minutes left and we still don't know where Yoenis Cespedes is going. Pins and needles.

Yanks have anything good in their farm system?

Wow-San Diego does nothing.  They must have wanted the world for their players.  Kinda glad they got shit done.

They actually do and I'm glad they didn't break the bank for a rental.

Cespedes to the Mets and they didn't have to give up Wheeler.  Good move.

Gotta laugh at the White Sox.  9 days ago they were 8 under and 7 back in the WC and looking to trade.  they win 7 in a row against bums and get to 2.5 back and are in a rough spot to say they are giving up.  Now they are shit out of luck for trades as they are going to drop to 4.5 back in the WC race with a blow out loss to the Yankees.   They could have gotten a good prospect or 2 for Samardzija who they will not resign.

I'm glad the North Side finally has a GM with a plan.

So have the Royals now gone from last season's underdog darling to the most hated AL team? I normally don't put a lot of stock in players getting upset and getting thrown at, but when there is a pattern like this it becomes difficult to ignore. I can say Astros fans are pretty upset with them since we've been without George Springer for a month and won't have him back for another month yet due to pitching inside. Was curious what other teams' fans were thinking.

Ned Yost has always been an ass hole and shitty manager.  I wish the Royals would dump him.  That's the only hate I have towards them.  Hard to hate such a small market team.

I'm not a Mets fan but I happened to catch a good chunk of all 3 games vs the Nats over the weekend.  Citi field was alive in a way that I've never seen it.  That starting pitching staff is unbelievable.  If you're a Met's fan you have to be pretty optimistic about the future.  That David Wright contract is an albatross, I just hope it doesn't prevent them from going out and getting another bat at some point.

One big reason the Yanks didn't make any big moves at the deadline is making his major league debut for them tonight, Luis Severino.  Welcome to the pennant race kid!

Well this fella is pretty sure the Pirates got it locked up:

"I’ve been joking around with my wife for about a month now saying, 'hey, I’m gonna get the Pirates championship tattooed on my leg,'" said Andrew Broadwater, a correctional dietary officer in Frostburg, Md., two hours southeast of Pittsburgh.

"And she said, 'nah, you won’t do that, you’re not that crazy,'" Broadwater said, who has seven other tattoos, none of which have attempted to predict the future. "And she went to work today and I had the day off from work, and I went down and I got it tattooed on me, and there it is."

What's wrong with getting the P tattoo and having world champs like he does.  but instead of 2015 have all the world titles (5) in smaller print with room to add more.

Sure, if you want to play it safe. That's just not the way of a correctional dietary officer. They're a different breed.

Your Yanks are blowing hard.  At this rate they will be out of the WC in a week.  Plus 10 more with Toronto and the Jays are just rolling.

Indeed.  Addison Russell has been very good for us.

Way to go Astros! Thanks for the support.

How are the A's 17 games under .500 yet have a +11 run differential?

Stoked the Yankees are now just a Wild Card Team. Couple more weeks and they should be on the outside looking in.

Imagine if the Astros were still in the NL Central.  Scary thought....

The Yankees were never supposed to be competitive this year.  As a Yanks fan this season has been a (mostly) pleasant surprise.  I'm glad they didn't destroy their farm system for a rental to make a run at it this year.  Toronto did and they are now a better team.  Good for them.

Eventually the Yanks will crawl out from under the albatross contracts for Sabathia  and AROD and will bring in some other players.    I'm glad they didn't give in to Robinson Cano's demands and that looks like a smart move now.  I'm happy to see the kids they have brought up in the last few weeks play well.  I'm happy with the direction they are heading.  It could be a painful final couple months to the season if they start slipping down the standings, but I think a wild card spot is doable.

With the way the Cards, Pirates and Cubs are playing.... the NL Central would be a house of horrors for any team that had to come in to play.

Exactly.  Yikes.

Soler and Motte or on the DL.  fuq!

The Giants are currently living that nightmare. They just played 7 games combined against the Cards and Pirates... They won 2. Now they have the Cubs and then the Cards again.

The Dodgers are doing worse.  They are only 2.5 games out.

It's amazing what 300 million can't buy.

Did they do anything of note at the deadline? I dont really fall them so I dont really know.

Nada!

Eh, if you got the money spend it, but it's absurd to have a 307M dollar payroll and don't make the playoffs.

They got Utley in a waiver wire deal.

New SI cover.  I'm buying it!

That Cubs/Pirates one-game-playoff is going to have two cities watching for 4 hours in complete drunken silence.

Or could be Cards and Cubs.

I think at this point it's a crap shoot for all three times.
