Official CC Top 100 List

Thread Starter
I remember a while back (I think it was around the first of the year), there was talk about our esteemed Creature Corner experts compiling a list of the Top 100 Horror Movies. At the time it was under consideration whether or not it would be a straight list, chronological, or by genre. This ringing any bells with anyone now?

Anyway, has there been any progress on this front or has it been dropped? I was hoping to see it with the new redesign, but I can't find it anywhere, nor have I seen it mentioned as one of the cool, new, whizbang features. It's something I'd love to see, but, hey, I'm not paying to be a member of this site, so whatever you guys do or don't do is alllllrighty with me.

It's funny you mention that. Everyone that visits the site in the coming months will be sent a bill for useage of our bandwidth, retroactive til however long you've been visiting.

Joke---

To be honest, we haven't begun compiling the list as of yet, mainly because of time constraints, but since it's obvious people still want it, let's get some ideas.

Top 100 EVER, listed by year they came out...

Could you do something like AICN's polls, with a long list to choose from and people click and vote? We can all nominate the films we think should be included, and then voting could run for a month. At least that way the Top 100 is based on something tangible - and it'd save you having to do all the sums!

Dan's onto something. Compile a huge list from well known mainstreamers to obscure gore flicks, and let folks click and choose.

Good idea. As long as everyone participates.

Mine is in <a href="http://chud.nexcess.net/board/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=3&t=001102&p=" target="_blank">here</a> someplace... I stand by it.

Johnny - you and I need to talk about this BTW... This weekend.

I was thinking we could have one ready for Halloween, of course.

Did anyone see the TV special on AFI's 100 Best Thrillers? Bizarre. They had the most generous definition of the word thriller ever. I would think a thriller could be a suspenseful mystery or a horror movie. They expanded that category to any "heart pounding movie."

Psycho topped the list, which was fine, but check out some of these other entries:

Safety First (silent Harold Lloyd comedy where he hangs from the clock tower)
The China Syndrome
The Guns of Navarone
12 Angry Men (!)
Gaslight
All the President's Men
Rocky
Ben Hur (59)
Lawrence of Arabia
The Great Escape

Okay, so they included some action pictures. But it was disappointing that they strayed so far from my concept of scary and thrilling.

Then again, I'm not a big fan of ranking movies. When I have to name my favorite book or movie, I think of dozens of my favorites.

How about breaking it down into categories? Like...
Scariest Horror Movies, Grossest Horror-Movies, Best Horror-Comedies, Best Foreign Horror, Best Horror Remake, Best Classic Horror the Mainstream Public Has Never Heard Of.

By the way, I have suggestions for each of those categories.

Yeah, we definitely need categories - or a very firm definition of what a horror film is - or we'll get all sorts of stuff in there. You see, I don't think Silence Of The Lambs is a horror film although I'm sure some people do. Equally, some people prefer scares to gore, and some people prefer splatter to atmosphere.

And while making lists is utterly pointless, it's also fun - especially when it's something like this - a bit more personal than some cocks you've never met telling you that Citizen Kane is the best film ever. It's not. King Kong is. Any fool knows that.
