This draft we'll casting Paul Thomas Anderson's 1997 porno epic Boogie Nights!

The roles are:

1. Dirk Diggler

2. Jack Horner

3. Amber Waves

4. Rollergirl

5. Reed Rothchild

6. Buck Swope

7. "Little" Bill Thompson

8. Scotty J.

9. Todd Parker

10. Maurice Rodriguez

11. Jessie St. Vincent

12. Floyd Gondolli

13. The Colonel James

14. Rahad Jackson

Since it is a large cast, you'll be casting 2 characters on the first day and 3 characters the rest of the draft. Rules are the same as they ever where. The draft will start 8 / 24 / 15 and end 8 / 28 / 15. Drafting will start each day at 10:00 am EST and end at 3:00 pm EST.

Boogie Nights huh? Sound like a tough one but I'm in.

This one will be pretty tough but I'm in.

Yeah, I haven't been masochistic in weeks, sign me up.

I'm in.  My draft is going to be Hi-Fi...high fidelity. What that means is that it's the highest quality fidelity.

I am in. God help me, I am in.

We got ten inches. Let's see if we can't get 13 or 14.

16 would be ideal.  May I recommend going through prior drafts and PM'ing those participants who have not signed up yet?  Some of them might not be aware of this impending draft.

What the hell, I'm overdue for a rewatch on this anyway. In.

It's a bad sign when you can't think of any Dirk Digglers before the draft even starts. But I missed the last draft, so I'll take a chance and risk embarrassment. Count me in.

Where's that Heisenberg25 guy? Does he only exist in the Recast Your Favorite Movies Thread?

One can only assume.

Equally important is the girth of the members pool of picks to draw from.

That came out weird.

*Ahem* I'm in *ahem*

Hey, I'm afraid I won't be able to participate. If it's not too much trouble I'm gonna have to step off.

That's a bummer.  You are consistently one of my favorite drafters and I was looking forward to what you came up with.

We can move the draft to start this Monday if that means you'll be able to participate Henry. And if that works for everyone else, of course.

I'm cool with it, especially if it gets Henry in here.  I was dead serious

Im okay with it starting on Monday the 17th.

Sure, the 17th works fine.

In.

I'll probably be outta town the 17th-19th, but I'll post when I can (probably at night, so don't wait on me).

I'm fine with the 17th aswell.

Moving the draft back a week instead of up might be better if we want to give folks a chance to revisit the movie.

Yeah, I'm certainly not going to be able to watch it by Monday, and I only remember about half those names. I mean, I'll still give it a shot, but I'll be winging the fuck out of it.

I'll put it to a vote. Speak now or forever hold your peace.

I'll need the week to revisit it as well.

Unless there's an overwhelming call to start Monday, I'm going to say give it a week and start on the original date of the 24th. Give people some time to rewatch it. If any one else wants to join in, you're free to do so.

That's perfect, as I've been without internet all weekend and haven't been able to do much planning.

So far, I feel like the biggest perv as I have more candidates for Rollergirl by far than any other character.  :(

Other than the pervy aspects, Heather Graham is an easy actress to replace. Finding replacements for Hoffman, Cheadle, Reilly is downright daunting.

Can I make a suggestion?

Can we make this thing 10 picks total, with 5 that you HAVE to select (the main roles), and 5 that are selected from the remaining supporting roles?  I just think that making 14 picks in one week is gonna be too damned much.

You guys have been complaining that these casting drafts are getting too predictable and easy! Part of the challenge of this one is getting an ensemble that works. There are a couple of obvious picks for each role, but after that I think people will really have to stretch.

I feel like I was able to come up with a couple of good names for Reed and Buck, but finding Scotty and Little Bill are definitely my biggest challenges so far.  This one has definitely pushed me out of the box.

I actually have the most Scottys and Little Bills. Reed is the hardest one for me, gotta be someone around Dirk's age, give or take 5 years, and able to hold their own comedically, but not overtake the movie. John C. is one of the few guys that can do that.

I've got my cast pretty well lined up except for a few roles.  I've got a theme going, and as long as nobody else is doing the same thing, I'm safe.  If I'm drawing water from the same well as anyone else, we're both gonna have problems.

To clarify: I'm not saying that 14 picks is a problem.  I'm just saying that doing 14 picks in one week may be a problem, as that's pretty much three per day (and schedules will be tight).  Two a day worked out really well, but three might really be pushing it.

Well, there's only one way to find out.

Rats, I haven't seen Boogie Nights in a while but I'll give it a shot.  In.

Yeah YT!  That's the spirit!

I've got a pretty good list for Horner and Amber Waves.  Diggler is the hardest for me (hehe).  I want someone young, but also with range.  It's easy to overlook how good Wahlberg was in the original.

I've got a really good Colonel that I'll be heartbroken if anyone steals.

This is still on for a Monday morning start?  I need to settle on one of my 20 Rollergirls!

Yup, here's who we got:

1. AtomTastic

2. Judas Booth

3. Dent6048

4. Arjen Rudd

5. JustAncient

6. Ratty

7. Axelbratoski

8. Richard Dickson

9. Jmurdoch

10. MrTyres

11. Pither

12. Capt Renault

13. Turingmachine75

14. Fat Elvis

15. HypnoToad

16. YT

Well I suppose I'd better pick a theme then...

Room for one more? I've not been on the boards much lately but I've been a part of most of these.
