Blizzard's OVERWATCH - Page 3

They've said they WILL add more heroes and that they have ideas for more. Considering the blizzard method of stealing other people's shit, in this case basically making a totally boss TF3, I would expect both of those types on the way!

reaper is the spy, Mei is the pyro.

Calling Reaper a spy is a real stretch.

I think the Spy character is still coming.

Looking at some of the artwork for the game shows some potential future characters, like the Hazmat guy and the others here:

Had my best moment yesterday, which I will upload as part of my Beta highlight reel soon enough, is when I used Genji's blade reflect to kill a turreted Bastion. I might have softened him up a bit with throwing stars first, so I don't know if a full reflect will actually take his whole life bar.  Someone will have to test that out.

I had a blast playing this the past week, but personally I don't think there's enough here to warrant a full purchase, especially since I'm a console only player and its $60 or bust.  A good free diversion none the less.

It will.  The problem is when you fight a Bastion that knows what he's doing he stops firing on Genji till his deflect goes into cooldown.

Something I just found out:  Junkrat's RIP Tyre can go up walls.

Wasn't super enamored with the game, until last night, when things started to click very tightly. Egyptian goddess with the missiles and the hover and the super jump and you can rocket jump into the super jump and just rain down death. Fuuuuuuuuuck.

I was also put off by the amount of time it takes to get back into the battle, but I eventually came to accept it as the price to be paid for dying like a noob. Once you become capable of stringing together 5, 10-player kill streaks, and if you have just one competent healer on the team (and if you don't ... why not you?), everything becomes waay more gratifying.

Best moment was going in as McCree, team is getting absolutely slaughtered, I'm playing trash. Get his super, flank the enemy team, manage to line up four headshots while dodging incoming fire. All four guys get merked. That ends up being play of the game, and even though our team was hugely outscored and that was really the only thing worthwhile I did whole match, ended up winning the vote with 8 votes total - so even the victorious squad threw me some love, despite their guys have much better rounds. Because it really was a sick play.

I thought that was great.

Stumped for the $40 version.

Played Reaper last night, and he's no spy, that's for sure. No disguise, too much of a brawler.

He's a good flanker at least.

I like playing Lucio, but I think his buffs only work on the horizontal plain? Had a bastion above me, but it wasn't getting any healing.

I get he is not a spy analogue. But he is the closest thing in the current roster. And his goals of getting behind lines, isolating and taking out individuals are similar.

My last match before the beta shutdown was a pretty epic and fun Junkrat one.

Went up to the other team's entrance to say g'day (and plant a mine and bear trap), ran back and hid behind our D.Va and when the doors opened trolled the fuck out of them.

Spent the rest of the match killing fools around corners with ricocheting bombs, laying bear traps at choke points and blowing them the fuck up till the clock ran out.  Poor guys didn't even get to the pay load.  Such fun playing this psycho Aussie.

This is gonna be a long two weeks for me...

Ok, now that the withdrawal is setting in, here's some thoughts for what I hope Blizzard will add and fix for the game:

- TEAM DEATHMATCH MODE PLZ.  Why there isn't one available at launch I do not know.  But it seems like a perfect thing to add.  Sometimes you just want to frag fools.  They don't even need exclusive maps at first, just use the current ones with the objective/payload disabled.

- The PotG algorithm needs to be fixed.  Way too many awesome plays are eclipsed by a fucking Bastion in Turret Mode killing three people coming around a corner.  It would also be nice if Supports got a bit more love here.

- And while we're at it...please give us an option to save PotG's we're proud of.

- More money in the loot boxes.  I don't know about you guys but I really didn't get much money in these.  It's going to take me fucking ages to get that awesome Horus skin for Zen or that Thunderbird one for Pharra.  Maybe let each loot box give you a set amount plus whatever extra pops up in the box itself.  It's just cosmetic stuff so this shouldn't be a problem.

- Speaking of Zenyatta...he needs a buff.  150 health is way too squishy for a character that's supposed to be neck deep in the fighting.  I keep getting killed with body shots from camping Widowmakers. I really love this guy and would like to play him more.

- So nerfs...many people would agree that Bastion would benefit from one.  I'm thinking that his 360 firing arc in Turret Mode is a bit OP.  Maybe shorten it to just a wide cone.  Also, shorter clips for the turret gun would be a good balance to have, or maybe just longer reload times.  The only other one I think definitely needs one is Mei.  She has way too much health (250!) for also having that regenerating indestructible ice block ability.  And the range of her freeze ray needs to be shortened a bit.  That's pretty much all I had a problem with.  The game is pretty balanced for the most part.

Is there early access available for those who pre-purchase the game? Can't seem to find an answer anywhere.....

What a loot crate of fuck.

Yeah didn't even know how deep I was hooked until I couldn't play it.

RE: Zenyatta ... maybe he's just a very high difficulty character? I had no luck whatsoever, but my stepson, who is in that teenage Dew-filled twitch bracket, absolutely wrecked with him. I'd hate to deal with a Zenyatta in capable hands after a buff.

The point of the game is objective play.  The roster is designed to have balanced teams to achieve these objectives.  Soldiers, Tanks, Support, Healers.  They'd have to add a few more soldier and tank class heroes in order to have a viable TDM mode.

Speaking of which, Zenya is meant to hang back and either heal teammates or debuff enemies.  The only time he should be "in" the fray is either behind a Rheindhart with his shield up, or while using his ultimate.

I need to learn to play Mei better.  I could have sworn she had way less health.  I was always getting eliminated fast.

I kinda doubt a Team Deathmatch mode will be added, mostly because TF2 never got one.  I'd really like Capture the Flag.  We've got Payload, Attack/Defense, and King of the Hill already.

Also the chance to pick maps/modes.

Mei a good all around character.  Her Ice wall is effective for defense by closing off chockepoints.  Since the Defenders always roam free before the attackers, you can ice wall one of the attackers exits right when it opens. Especially good if the numbnuts are all at one door.  She's also a decent sniper with her alt fire if you're good enough.

If you're sneaky enough you can freeze enemies in place from behind with her main fire.  And her ice shield not only heals her, but can last just long enough to wait for backup if you're caught outnumbered.

Her ultimate is highly situational though, though I did get one Play of the Game one time with it because I happened to catch most of the enemy team coming around a corner with it, then spammed her main fire combined with melee hits.  Killed the whole lot of them.

*gets flag*

*Lucio buffs you with speed boost*

*cue salt and rage from opposing team*

*everyone catches on*

*every team now has a Lucio*

Because if they allowed abilities to be used while carrying the flag, everybody would just pick Pharra, Lucio, or Widow.  Hell for balance they would have to disable Hanzo and Genji's inate ability to wall climb.  I already counter pick one of them to deal with Widows.  Chasing them with the flag would be a nightmare.

The hanging back part is a bit hard when you have to maintain LoS for your orbs to have any effect.

And maintaining LoS usually puts you in a Widowmaker's crosshairs.  At least in my experience.

It's line of sight to activate, not to maintain.  Purple orb an enemy, get into cover, heal orb an ally, get into cover.  The orbs automatically deactivate after a few seconds, and you can only have so many of each active at one time.

Thread Starter

They deactivate after a few seconds BECAUSE they're LoS.  They're supposed to stay active as long as you maintain it.  Which is necessary because the orbs of harmony don't heal that fast so you're really hampering your ability as a Support by not maintaining LoS.

Hmm, well I mainly stick to Lucio for support.  Everybody guns for Mercy, but Lucio is still under the radar, along with Symmetra.

Lucio is insanely powerful in the right hands.  He was my third most played character after D.Va and Mercy.  His speed buffs are deceivingly strong and extremely useful for more than just rushing to the objective.

And his lore is pretty cool as well.  He's basically a DJ turned Brazilian Che Guevarra.

Reaper, teleport onto flag, wraith form away while teleport recharges, teleport again. Nope, I don't see CTF as an option.

Interesting three part documentary on Overwatch from GameSpot, and how a failure lead Blizzard to their first new IP in seventeen years. A good watch for anyone interested in the game, or even game development in general.

Part One: The Fall Of Titan

Part Two: Return Of The 90's Shooter

Part Three: 21 Hero Salute

Easy fix, no carrying the flag while teleporting.  In TF2, ubers and cloaked spies can't carry flags, and the flag won't go through teleporters.

I'm not saying it wouldn't be a challenge, but I think it's possible.

I watched all 3 of those videos, and as good as they are, absolutely no mention or reaction of the overabundance of rule 34 machinima going back months prior to release?

I mean.... there's not too much to say, is there? Blizz makes good characters. Actual character is attractive. Throw in some T&A, and people are all over it. I'm not gonna lie, Thick Mei is bae. I love that there's a thick, curvy nerd chick.

Those videos are fantastic. My excitement level seems to just keep increasing. I haven't gotten super heavy into a Blizzard game since Vanilla WoW, but I grew up with those games. It feels like the King is Back.

I was mostly being facetious, but the vids were full of affection over the fandom's enthusiam, talking about cosplayers roaming the office and giving suggestions for design tweaks and such, but nothing about all the fan made porn?  Maybe the just wanted to keep it family friendly, but a hand waved mention wouldn't have been so bad.

Keeping with this, I've seen a couple for Mei, Mercy, and Pharrah.  There's a shit load for Tracer, Widow and D.VA of course.  Need more Mercy and Mei.  You know, for... research.

New animated short:

They've also been bringing out comic books on some of the other characters if you haven't seen them yet.  They've got issues for McCree, Reinhardt (he who is bae), Junkrat/Roadhog and Symmetra.

https://comic.playoverwatch.com/en-us/mccree-train-hopper

I really love how the lore for the game has been fleshed out.  A lovely little detail is that the battle damage from that fight in the 'Dragons' short is actually visible on the Hanamura map.

If you've not yet seen the animated shorts, why not celebrate Overwatch's release by seeing them on the big screen?

New heroes being teased.

EDIT:  Ok, so apparently those are not new hero announcements and instead just launch events (boo!)

Buuuuut, there was a post on Neogaf where someone found a bunch of clues to a character called Sombra.  Possibly a support sniper.

One day to go!

My Battle.net client mentioned that the game will be available on 16:00 on the 23rd though...which is today.

Will have to check tonight.

Ooops. I may have gotten my days mixed up. Thought the 23rd was tomorrow!

I know this is a weird thing to think about (especially as I have no shares in the company) but how does this business model work for Blizzard? They say all future heroes are going to be free, right? Where is their money after initial base game sales going to come from?

I guess I'm basically trying to work out what I might be paying for in the future.

Skins.  In Heroes of the Storm whenever they release a new skin they sell it for 10 bucks a pop, and brother you wouldn't BELIEVE how many skins and cosmetics sell in that game.

You'll be able to pay money for all the skins, victory poses and all the other cosmetic things.  Nothing that will affect the game itself will have microtransactions.  Which I'm cool with.  I'm not going to be paying for any skins personally but I can see why people would.

Also, it's still $40/40 Euros to buy the game and 60 on the consoles.  If only half the people that played the open beta decide to buy it that's still some crazy money Blizzard is making.

One thing I found hilarious as I was paying for this yesterday, Blizzard immediately throws the Origins Edition in your face and nothing else.  You actually have to go look for the base game under the products.  Sneaky bastards.

EDIT:  FREEEEEEEMAAAAAAAAAAAN!

Ah, thanks.

I ended up buying both this game AND World Of Warcraft, just because I've never tried it.

Fucking Blizzard.
