The struggle bus consists of playing matches mid-day when apparently you can go 5-0 on a regular basis because of leavers on the opposite teams making every game 6v5.

Bruv I am the captain and bonded union driver of the strugglebus.

lol I had a couple leavers on the opposite team and that just negates my 1200 SR climb......pppbbhhhhttt

Server browser coming. Didn't I read something recently saying server browsers actually helped DOTA or an Overachiever similar game actually lose players because the matchmaking queues became too thin to support short match entry times?

Especially with XP and lootboxes available in Custom matches. Won't a ton of people just disappear into these custom playlists and expand the wait time for me to find a decent lobby?

Honestly instead of all these fucking options to hide away in custom games why don't they release more maps for the base game?

Honestly, I'm out. Done.

Until Blizzard bring out servers I can ACTUALLY fucking play on with reasonable ping, I can't do this anymore. I love the game but fuck I've just had it with getting killed because I'm running on 200ms and can't react on time.

It never ceases to amaze me that people who have played hundreds of games and have leveled hundreds of times have no fucking idea what they are doing in this game. I would guess 70% of the players don't understand concepts such as strategy, team composition, and teamwork. Everybody is out there trying to play Call of Duty, every man for themselves.

I'd love to see some hard numbers on Overwatch's user base, especially for console.

Would you be surprised if 30% of the people you play with are children 12 and under? I certainly wouldn't. That might go towards explaining why those basic strats you want to execute just don't happen sometimes.

That and we all just want to play Attack Torbjorns!

I think Overwatch is unique because it's the first popular FPSish game that stresses the importance of teamwork and team comp. Most FPS games can be won on the individual skill of its players. Call of Duty, Counterstrike, H1Z1...etc. I played Call of Duty for years, put a couple of good players on a team with 3 or 4 bad players and you can still win the game because those 2 good players can carry. Throw those same good players on a bad OW team vs. a coordinated team and they will lose almost every time, no matter how good they are. And I think that's great, but it leads to a lot of frustration too. I can accept losing to a better team in a hard fought game. But losing because people on your team play characters they have no business playing...that's what drives me crazy.

Wow, I really like Sombra. That's a lot of fun.

I think it really all comes down to communication and willingness to listen. I'm not a particularly good player, but I do know the times I have been on a squad that felt invincible there was constant quality communication. Part of that is being comfortable, and part of it is that kind of communication is fatiguing. Ideally you would just have a murdersquad where everyone already knows their role and there's an implied shorthand to the proceedings, but that too is a tremendous amount of work.

New life goal: obtain Sombra's golden gun. The Giuseppe Uzi.

I think sombra can be really good in this meta. The biggest mistake I see Sombras make is that they stand their grounds while trying to empty their entire 60 round clip into the opposition. Sombra should always be moving, invisible, recalling, staying out of harms way while hacking. If you're dying a lot as a sombra then you're doing it wrong.
So as this event winds down, how have y'all been doing in it? Any good Capture the Rooster stories to share? Obtained all the skins you want? Spent gobs of real money on lootboxes and still get mostly sprays, icons, and duplicates?

Me? I hated CTR at first since it didn't limit anything and mostly ended in draws, but I warmed up to it once people got the hang of balancing defense with offense. And more often than not I get other people besides me to mic up to coordinate. I mostly win now and am actually having fun.

The RNG does seem more stingy this time. I got most of the winter skins, but am still missing most of the Lunar ones. I just want Roadhog and Zen to complete the Journey to the West quartet, dammit! I refuse to buy lootboxes. Eff that noise. On the last day if I havent gotten them, might break down and buy one with coins. But seeing as how I've only had the game since Black Friday, and have only played here and there during events, I've only acrued a measly sub 6,000 gold. Why do event skins have to cost 3,000? Maybe, just maybe, if they let you buy gold directly I'd just do that instead of relying on RNG, but they don't even give you that option.

Jack can you clarify exactly how Sombra's hacking ability works? It says it shuts down enemy abilities, is that all abilities or are there exceptions? Sometimes I feel like I'm hacking someone and they manage to blink away or something, not sure if I am misunderstanding the mechanic.

I'm sure somebody will correct me if I'm wrong, but it takes a couple seconds to get the hack done so a tracer could conceivably escape if they realize what's happening in time. But once you got em hacked they can only use their basic attack and nothing else. So a tracer wouldn't be able to recall, a genji couldn't block, an Ana couldn't sleep dart, a rein couldn't put up his shield, etc. All the good Sombras I've seen will terrorize support characters. So you go stealth, sneak up behind an Ana or a zenyatta or a mercy, hack them...leaving them pretty defenseless, empty your clip into them, then you recall or go invisible, rinse and repeat. Then you use your ult as a precursor to an all out attack by your team. I've watched some footage of highly ranked players playing sombra, and it's amazing what you can do. But you have to remain elusive, stay on the fringes, make sure your recall is always somewhere safe.

I'm not giving it enough time to cook, that makes sense.

Even with my limited skillset Sombra in 3v3 is super versatile, from what I've seen. Alongside the requisite Roadhog and its easy to just bamboozle enemies and wear them down.

Sombra and Hanzo are the two characters I want to learn to play better, but I typically get thrown into games where nobody else wants to tank, so I end up playing Rein. If you want more reps playing Sombra just send me a message and we'll jump into some quick play games.
You'll see an icon appear once youve hacked them. Go to the practice range for a bit to get the mechanics of the hack and recall down. A sombras recall is one of the best skills in the game.

I'll hit you up today if you are on.

8 hours and $40 later, I finally pulled BLANKFACE ZENYATTA and had enough left over for Sun Wukong. Had a lot of fun rotating between Sombra, Zenyatta and Roadhog. Hog definitely deserves a nerf, that's just too automatic a pick in too many situations.

I spent an hour in a PC cafe today playing Overwatch on a computer. I went in with the idea that maybe I might buy a basic gaming computer or laptop if I enjoyed it and play Overwatch on PC.

Let me just say that I have a new-found respect for the PC Master Race. I have no idea how you manage to be that coordinated. The mouse aiming was fine if I had someone on screen to point at. If I was just looking around my hand kept muscle memory-ing to an inverted controller setup where I was pushing forward on the mouse thinking I could look down and pulling backwards and could look up.

I have absolutely ZERO mind-hand coordination between my brain and my left hand. I could barely move side to side because I always forgot to let go of the A key before pressing D. Walking backwards? Fugheddaboutit. My middle finger didnt want to listen.

Shift. Shift. Shift. *look down* Oh, that's the Ctrl key..

E? No Fucking way am I finding that key...

Can you jump on PC? Space bar? How am I supposed to hold my hand in that claw position without major cramps? Also, my forearms are not designed to do this... My god the pain...

Did the tutorial with Soldier and thought it wasn't too bad. Played AI the rest of the time mostly D. Va, some Rein and the Hanzo. D. Va I did fairly well with but OMG Reinhardt? I cannot believe the amount of coordination it takes to play him. I give MoonMoon my free Twitch Prime sub every month but I want to give him real money now because I am in awe of what he accomplishes day in and day out. Hanzo was slightly easier but again, I can see why he became a meme for tilting anger.

Needless to say I realize an hour is not much to go on but the guy said their basic gaming desktop build is $1200 without a monitor. I couldn't justify that without a lot more time practicing under my belt.

But fair play to you PC guys. I don't know how you do it
post #1275 of 1523

I grew up with PC gaming, but honestly a couple hours of being hunched over gets my wrists sore. Yeah yeah you can just hook up a console controller to a PC but whatever, PS4 is good enough for me.

I call it FPS claw. I destroyed my left hand and wrist 17 years ago when I used to actually compete in competitive games. Though overwatch characters are not that click intensive. I remember having to perfectly time cntrl and space hundreds of times a game in order to super jump in HL deathmatch, that is what really did the damage.

I cannot control a gamepad shooter at all, the controls feel so clunky, I imagine I could pick it up, but the lack of responsiveness is something I don't want to get used to. To each their own I guess.

The story behind Overwatch is just as entertaining to me as the game. As a Blizzard fanboy since Blackthorne on the SNES, watching a new Blizz IP blow up was one of the best parts of 2016.

Anyone down for Season 4 squadtivities. I did not get too heavy into S3 because I wasnt really feeling it but I like what I've seen so far from the patch. Me and Gimpswell hit up some games last night and it wasn't terrible, even occasionally brilliant.

My main rotation is Sombra/Zarya/Zenyatta, with Blankface Zen probably being my most effective character at the moment. (My Sombra is solid in 3v3, still haven't figured out how to maximize her effectiveness in most full games tho). Off-squad is Pharah/Winston/Mei. Let me know if that lineup can slot in with anyone.

I'm in. Been taking a break from OW lately but I'm feelin the itch
post #1285 of 1523
I'm always up for OW, but I can't play as late anymore.

I spent the last half of the season playing nothing but support and hog If supports were taken. I am not far off from another gold weapon thanks to those 1200 points at the end of the season, I wanted Hog but ugggh I also kind of want Ana now.

Do we want to identify a couple days and aim to squad up then? I can definitely do Tuesdays around 7. Thursdays should be good as well, maybe a little earlier or a little later depending.

I'll be on later tonight as well, hopefully around 8. If I see anyone online I'll msg them then.

Bastion buff is getting rolled back.

New hero is a giant robot spider.

Today was a good day.

A giant robot spider which seems at first glance to be a Rein/Bastion/Zarya/D.Va/Symmetra hybrid with her abilities.

What have you heard about abilities? All i've really seen is the short.

This game needs a bruiser.

ABILITIES

FUSION DRIVER Orisa’s automatic projectile cannon delivers sustained damage, but slows her movement while she fires it.

0:00

FORTIFY Orisa temporarily reduces damage she takes, and cannot be affected by action-impairing effects.

0:04 / 0:04

HALT! Orisa launches a graviton charge which she can detonate, slowing nearby enemies and pulling them towards the explosion.

0:06 / 0:06

PROTECTIVE BARRIER Orisa throws out a stationary barrier that can protect her and her allies from enemy fire.

0:06 / 0:06

SUPERCHARGER Orisa deploys a device to increase damage inflicted by allies within her line of sight.

0:11 / 0:11

Well. That's ok I guess. If you are going with giant robot spider, I would hope they would go all out. Let it walk on ceilings, two flamethrowers, electric webbing that cocoons enemies and lets you feed on their health.

First character design in this game I don't care for at all. Those extra legs don't seem to serve any kind of purpose - it looks like she should be able to climb walls and shit.

Watching MoonMoon play her on PTR.

Watching play her gun is Bastion/D.Va-esque.  Her barrier has 900hp and is shaped like a batting cage backstop you would see in batting practice prior to a MLB game.  It can be thrown distance so if you're coming out of spawn you can fire it ahead to your teammates.

The Fortify decreases damage and she can't be stunned by McRee, knocked back by Pharah, hooked by Hog, charged by Rein(I believe) or other type abilities. I believe this is the utility of the extra legs.  They help her stay in place against these other abilities.

Halt is a small Graviton bomb that slows enemies and pulls them to its location like Zarya but it lasts much less time.

That forcefield does look dope. I guess I would ask what good is Symmetras force field then? I havent used her very much so I dont really know how that thing is best used.

Just saw Fortify tank a Roadhog ult.  Didn't knock back at all.

I placed 2285 today. That's about where I ended season 3 after my epic fall from diamond.

I went 3-7 and then won a couple more and hit plat. Maybe the climb to diamond won't be as rough as it was last season.
