Crazy Ex Girlfriend on CW

This is a Showtime pilot directed by Marc Webb that got picked up by CW.  I love it.  It's easily my favorite new TV show.  It's on CW and it's a certified ratings looser, but at least four episodes appear to be in the can.  I could see this getting rescued by Netflix or Hulu after a cult forms, or maybe the ratings will skyrocket once word of mouth picks up.  Even if it doesn't take off, I could see Rachael Bloom becoming a big voice in comedy ... hopefully she doesn't end up like Jennifer Westfeldt in a decade long sophomore slump.

It's on Hulu

Yeah it's good to see Rachael Bloom doing something not on Youtube. Some of my favorites.

Would hug. Repeatedly.

Watched the pilot, man is Rachel Bloom fantastic in it.  I knew she could do the musical interludes (which, not having those go stale quickly is going to be the hardest battle for the show), but her facial expressions in the scene where her co-worker confronts her at the party are just incredible.  It's, and I mean this in the most complimentary way possible, Devito-level comedic facework.

The tough premise and horrible title probably doom this to one-and-done status, but I bet we start seeing a whole, whole lot of Bloom in the near future.

Best new show of the season hands down. It reminded me of the first time I saw MST3K, when I couldn't believe they were doing the riffing on the whole movie; I didn't expect this to keep being a full-on musical, and then the second song kicked in. Just fantastic.

Why haven't i heard of Rachel Bloom till now?

I first saw her a few years ago in this little not-safe-for-work number. Needless to say, I took notice.

Not as good as this:

Even better than both of those:

Female led comedy is kicking pretty epic amounts of ass right now. If it weren't for Fargo this would have been my favorite show of the season.

I checked into last night's episode for the first time.  Bloom is an utter doll. I'm in for however long they can keep this on the air.

My favorite. It will stick in your head for days:

The use of auto-tune is both incredibly annoying and incredibly inspired.

Ah, it's so nice that we can all stalk Rachel Bloom together now.

Hey, I'm not stalking her. She just happens to be in places I visit for totally unrelated reasons.

Not me.  I'm straight up hiding in her bushes and stealing bras and toenail clippings.  I'm just an old-fashioned romantic that way.

Awwwwwwww.

I yield, confronted with such pure romance.

Romance seems to be...in Bloom.

"Gary, you've been coming up with some really intense copy lately. Don't get me wrong, butter is flying off the shelves. But is everything okay?"

This show's killing it.

Why aren't people falling over themselves with praise for this?

Why aren't there stampeding people running to their TVs when this is on?

Dear god, this destroyed me.  Felt like something stolen straight from Community, which I mean as high praise.

And man, it will suck if the terrible title and CW pedigree keep Rachel Bloom from an Emmy nomination.  Girl is absolutely crushing it.  There shouldn't be an ounce of sympathy left for the character after the horrible thing she does on the date, but...I totally get it.

"You can't hog the bathroom at a taco festival!!"

"Beaver Dam Menstrual Cup"

Not the best episode of the series (while still being fantastic), but these fucking tags, man.

Forcing the entire bar to sing and dance with her at knifepoint was pretty great.  Also "Then you saw another sexy mannequin, and thought about having sex with 2 sexy mannequins.  Then you saw a sexy lady, and you wanted her to watch you have sex with 2 sexy mannequins..."

Father Brah was possibly my favorite part of the episode. "He's got a killer move he calls the Torah, cause, like, you can't touch it."

Im not scared of clowns or trains!

My love for Rachel Bloom grows with every episode.

Whoever is creating these insanely catchy songs (Bloom, I assume) on a week-by-week basis needs to get some sort of special Emmy.

Given catchy, humorous songs are how she rose to fame, I have to assume the songs are at least partly Bloom's doing.

Good, give her an Emmy.  Or better, let ME give her an Emmy!   For starters.

He changed it from "Kid's Choice Award" so I'd call it an improvement.

Mine is "MTV Movie Award," because it's kinda looked down on, and involves "Best Kiss."

Boy, this thread's just bringing out the best in us!

When I feel like going after older women, I call it "Grammy."

Good interview with Bloom over at the AV Club.

ETA: And thanks to the AVC commentariat, I now know that "Fuck Me Ray Bradbury" was nominated for a Hugo, which is all kinds of fantastic.

"Her parents were killed in front of her! In Gotham."

The official explicit versions of the songs have me wishing this was on premium cable. I mean, the aired "I Give Good Parent" was funny, but damn.

Since we're posting videos...the ending of this one with the guest rapper is gold.

That one is probably my favorite so far.  Along with the tag at the end of the episode.
