SPECTRE post-release thread.

Well Saxon and myself and probably a few other European Chewers will be off to see this tomorrow night so may as well fire up a post release thread, for spoilers and such.

It's getting great reviews across the board. My personal hopes are that it's on par with The Living Daylights, looks as good as Skyfall (but not as dumb) and Alfie Bass reprises his role from Moonraker.

Thanks. When you get back, can you guys try not to reveal specific spoilers til the rest of us see it in wide release Nov?

Hence the point of the post-release thread. Just stay out of here and you'll be dandy.

It's going to be a long 2 weeks for me. I envy you lot.

Bring me spoilers, you -- you wankers!
Given the way Spectre ends, it will be interesting to see what they do with the next one. It would be cleanest if Craig left the role, but we all know he'll be back.

The most obvious direction would be a bit too grim, methinks (especially now that folks seem to be liking the return of a classic Bond vibe), as well as a bit of a retread of the CR/QOS arc, so I suspect they'll go a different road.

Sounds like we might be getting a Q field trip again. If true, of all the occasional Bond moments they may revisit, that is one I could definitely go another 26 years without seeing again.

Yeah, Q gets out into the field.

/patiently waits for respectable chewers to comment...

A week from today for me.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Judi Dench has a cameo and, via a message recorded before her death, sends Bond on his mission to stop SPECTRE.

Bond quits his job at the end and runs off with Madeleine.

Sweet! A happy ending.

The best part is when he wrestles the shark.

I'm probably going to be with Elvis on this one.  I found SKYFALL to be overrated as hell (it's good but not transcendent), and this one looks and sounds like SKYFALL 2, and that's not what I want.  I'll still see it because I see all Bond films, but my expectations are in check.

Team Elvis!

Heh, better delete my post-release thread I guess.

Dude, Quantum of Solace is the worst film in the franchise. So unless Spectre is a staggering new low, I reject this claim.

Hated SF more than QOS, so yeah that's his thing,

I don't understand how anyone could find any Bond film less watchable than Quantum. It's so dire that it makes me long to watch the Brosnan films.

I'd rather watch QOS than DAD or DAF.  This discussion has been done over and over again in the general Bond thread, so I won't hijack this post release thread for yet another list of the damned movies again.  Suffice it to say that, in a franchise this large, different movies are going to appeal to different people.  That's OK.

No. I refuse to be reasonable and diplomatic about this!

That Quantum of Solace is the very definition of cinematic incompetence and is an unwatchable bore is one of my articles of faith!

I actually enjoy DAF more than QOS. At least that was fun.

REMEMBER FUN???
Diamonds Are Forever is not a good film, but it does have some brilliant dialogue.

The only thing DAF has going for it is Jill St. John.

Whatever...this doesn't belong in the SPECTRE post release thread.  If we're going to debate the other movies AGAIN, let's mosey on over to the Bond thread and draw our weapons.

It's just possible I've yet to see the movie and posted just to see who'd bite...

T minus 2 hours...
There is no debate. It's plain as day that Quantum of Solace is the worst film ever made.

Everyone who disagrees is a heretic, and shall be condemned to spend the rest of eternity making the Brosnan painface.

TWINE is still the worst.

But how 'bout that SPECTRE!

To be fair, I did say Bond wrestles a shark.

Connery had sharks in THUNDERBALL

Moore had sharks in THE SPY WHO LOVED ME and MOONRAKER

Dalton had sharks in LICENSE TO KILL

So there's a precedent for shark wrestling.

Sharks also featured in FYEO.

Yeah, sharks should come back.
And LALD had sharks.

I want Dave Bautista biting into a shark.

Here's a nice piece of trivia:

Spectre is the first Bond film to adapt the continuation novels. A sequence in the film is lifted from Kingsley Amis' Colonel Sun and Amis is thanked in the credits.
