50M on the books for 2018.  That's absurd money management.

Well, here's hoping the Giants can turn Samardzija around, but man 90M seems like a lot for a question mark. I think I'd rather pay 200M for an exclamation point.

He will.  As long as they used what made him a success with the Cubs and A's.. Needs to throw is cutter more.  I have no idea what the hell happened with the W.Sox but what I hear is he was at odds with the pitching coach.

per Bruce Levine

Cubs offer to Price was creative at 7-$161 million third to Boston and St Louis .They liked Samardzija but did not offer 5 year deal .

Sounds like Boston overpaid by a lot. 40 million or so I would guess.

I read that.  I don't blame the FO for either.  161M was a hail mary.  They knew it wasn't going to get done.   They probably front loaded a ton of cash up front to entice him.

But if the Cards offer was only 170 then maybe they match or beat.  But 217 is insane.

Boooo!  Chapman traded to the Dodgers.  Not sure Jansen will like it but if he accepts it they will be deadly.

This is great news. No matter who starts as closer, first blown save will have the team thinking the other one should be closing. More drama in the clubhouse. First year manager not sure what to do. Chaos abounds.

Both Jansen and Chapman are free agents after this season. I'm sure the one told to be the set-up man will have no problem going into their FA year not being a closer.

Why would anyone shoot their own garage eight times?

Rats.  He was aiming for rats.

Reports are that Jansen is crushed about the trade.

And now the Chapman trade may never happen as MLB put it on hold pending the domestic violence story.

Zobrist to the Cubs!  4/56M.  Turned down more money from the Mets.

Castro to the yanks.  No details yet.  So basically it's a salary swap with Zobrist and Castro.   Good move!

I hope Zorbrist is good.  He is 34 and eventually things go downhill.  But so many teams wanted him I guess he'll still be good.

Adam Warren is interesting.  I hope he gets to be the 5th starter and let Bosio do his magic.  The trade is useless if he's a long relief bullpen guy.

Now about those Diamondbacks.  If I give up my top 2 prospects and my number 1 pick from this year I better be getting more than Shelby Miller.  He better be an Ace.  Miller is no Ace.  He's good but nowhere near the haul they gave up.  It's one thing to waste money when you have a huge new tv deal and it another to waste young talent.

Right thread now.

Cueto is done deal pending physical per Buster Olney.  West should be fun/

six years and $130M with an opt out after 2 years.  Weird deal.  No way he opts out imo

Giants clinch the offseason.

6/130 opt out after 2017.

IMO, Cueto was the 2nd-best pitcher available, so that's a strong signing. That rotation looks solid now. When you can have a pitcher as effective as Heston as your Plan B, your depth is great. This is close to exactly what I was hoping SF would do this offseason.

And as an added bonus, the Dodgers are left to overpay on the Pupu Platter of what's left.

It's on!

I honestly thought Cueto would get more.

Giants are gonna make that money back on zany dreadlock hat sales by June.

Heyward on taking @Addison_Russell #22: “I’ll send him an IOU and we’ll agree to terms on something.”

LOL!  Cant wait to watch this team!

Gotta love the White Sox.  Always trying to win this year by destroying their farm system.  They need look no further than their own division on how to win-The KC Royals.  Build from the bottom up.  Sure with Frazier they get some great pop but he's gone next year.  Where's the plan?

Should have nuked the team.  Traded Sale to the Diamondbacks for  5 or 6 prospects instead of the 3 the Braves got.  They would have done it.

Just ordered my Sunday 6 Pack of tickets.  Bleachers here I come.

Rockies in April, Nationals & Pirates in May, DBacks in June, Rangers in July, and the evil Giants in September.

And for some reason the Rangers are the most expensive of the six games. Not sure if it's because it's July or an AL team but it's nearly doubled that if the Pirates and Giants.

Really?  Is it a weekend or near july 4th or something?

It's July 17th so I don't think any holidays apply.  It's weird because that's the least appealing match up on paper.  Even the Rockies have guys who can bomb it out.  Sure the Rangers made the playoffs but they are so boring to me.

The amusement fees vary too.  From $4.56 a ticket in September to $12.47 in July.

I just hope they don't move too many of these games to ESPN Sunday Night Baseball.  All but the Rockies have potential to go there.

It's probably because the month of July is their prime month?  I seriously don't know.

People who didn't vote for Griffey Jr should have their voting privileges taken away.

Still think Piazza is a cheat.  Him and Bagwell.  Sosa never tested positive ether and he's under 10% where he belongs.

Three more years and Bonds is in.

Cubs convention this weekend.  Said during the playoffs Pirates/Cards fans were nice and Mets fans were dicks.  Not a shock.

Not surprised to see Davis resign with the Orioles.  Have to believe not many teams wanted him.

Yeah you are right.  I wish I was there right now.

I went for three straight years in 2003, 2004, 2005.   It's a blast and total Cubs geekville.

No shit!  I guess when they get their own network tv station in 2019-2020 they will televise it.

Cubs sign Arrieta for record 10.7 million(for 4 year starter) and are working on a 6 year deal.  A bit shocking considering Boras but Jake still has another arbitration year and any injury could cost him 100 million.
