Want to read something sexy?

When I first heard of this flick, I cringed. But... this... well, this made my fucking day.

From the <a href="http://www.darkhorizons.com/news.htm" target="_blank">DH</a>.

The House of the Dead: Director Uwe Bowell talked juicy technical details about this zombie flick to JoBlo.Com and it sounds pretty darn good. The most complex visual effect is "a Matrix-like set-up with over 300 cameras for a fighting scene", whilst gore will be very apparent - "We have over 15 exploding heads, people are cut in half or fighting headless. We basically show what "Resident Evil" didn’t show". The film is aiming for a wide release, though what about the rating? "R-rated- but the DVD will be the Director's Cut in NC-17 or X-format". Expect it out early-mid 2003. Thanks to 'BG'.

I may be an old cynic, but I think this is just the filmmakers trying to distance themselves from Resident Evil. That movie got pretty much panned by the critics, and didn't really set the box-office on fire. Another zombie videogame adaptation? The comparisons are inevitable, so they start spreading the word that whatever you didn't like about Resident Evil, this movie will do the opposite. My guess is that if people had complained that Resident Evil didn't have enough pandas in it, the makers of House Of The Dead would be promising a troupe of one hundred dancing pandas, juggling with bamboo chainsaws.

And anyone who mentions a "Matrix-like set-up" like it's the greatest idea ever automatically sets off my mental alarms.

Now there's a stunning visual! I wonder if it's too late for reshoots...

There probably is an element of spin involved, but when you get right down to it, Rob Zombie makes Paul Anderson look like Martha Stewart. RE was produced, packaged and marketed to a large cross section of viewers, whereas H1KC just wants to make large cross-sections of it's viewers. The fact that this film was treated like a leper with halitosis can only be a positive, in this case.

Frost, this is House of the Dead, based on the Sega video game, not House of 1000 Corpses.

I'm with you, Dan. Take a look at the trailer, looks lame. Don't believe the hype from the spin-meisters.

Well then, that changes everything. I've suddenly lost interest completely...

Now if they actually show blood, then it will be 10 times better than RE.

As long as it brings the gore that bit of news offers, I'll be happy.

When I first heard of this movie, I was totally puzzeled. Of all the games to adapt, why did they pick this one? It has no plot, no gimmick. It just has zombies. Why bother adapting it? They're just going to be forced to write a plot for it anyway, they might as well have made a whole new movie not based on anything.

Resident Evil had a plot, and like little said, it's a Horror/Survival game. It's purpose was to scare you. The House of the Dead's purpose was to provide 100s of zombies for you to shoot at. I could see Resident Evil working out better than this could, but it didn't.

So, looking at how the game is, expect a movie with no plot, bad characters, but buckets and buckets of blood and zombie guts.

Sadly, that'll probably be enough for most people. I still don't think it'll be as gory as they make out though. They have to pay Sega to use the House Of The Dead name (although why they bothered is open to debate - it's hardly Tomb Raider or Metal Gear). That bumps up the cost of the movie automatically. They need to get people into the theatres to make that money back, and a two-hour zombie gut-fest is not the best way to do that. It'll last a week, maybe two, before being bumped for something more mass market. Add in the fact that the target audience for this will be people who care enough about the game to see a movie based on it - ie teenagers - and I think we'll be looking at a fairly tame R rating - just like Resident Evil.

Let's face it, any of the ideas <a href="http://chud.nexcess.net/board/ubbhtml/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=46;t=000045" target="_blank">here</a> would make better movies than House Of The Dead.

The House of the Dead series is really rather good IMO, certainly the best lightgun games ever. I can see how they could make a fun, brainless zombie shoot em up flick out of this. It couldn't be any worse than the abomination that was RE.
I think House of the Dead is a pretty useless license to pick up. Any fan of the zombie killing Sega game is probably going to see a zombie movie no matter what it's called. I'm an optimist though. All a zombie film needs to be successful is a half way decent plot and a good hero. Oh yeah, and a bunch of heads exploding from shotgun blasts. I'll buy a ticket.

I guess you won't be in line for Duck Hunt: The Movie then.

Actually, technically, the R-rating in RE was for the nudity (and foul language, too, yup), cuz it lasted just a bit too long, and yeah, the beaver shot is pretty fuckin' visible, I guess. Ugh.

Anyways. As for HOTD, I'm kinda eagered. Exploding heads - suuuweeeet.
And it seems the zombies have some "fighting" skillz. This could be neat, as well. "Muuuuahh ph33r |\/|4h 1337 5kill5".

I can't believe you people are talking about plot for a HOTD movie. LOL! Err. Sorry. HOTD (the game) has a plot, yes. It's simple, too, and effective. Wish they'd kept closer to it. Ahh, well. We'll have to sit through some beautiful people dying, but hey, if it's the kind of beautiful people that're assholes that we see dying, well, isn't that gonna be satisfying?

Since the film is already seeming to be in filming, at least we probably won't have a Romero-Constantin deal where Uwe promises gore but gets fired before he can put it into place. Can anyone believe the bull-shit that Jeremy Bolt (think it was him) said about George in one of the Fango RE articles?
