Necrobumping this shit because I'm catching up. Three more eps and season two is done.

You folk all love the shit out of Amos but pilot guy is my bro. I don't really buy them making Holden a default white knight, and proceeding to say that several times - you're the best of us Harvey Dent.

I am not liking Martian Glau. She's annoying and kind of psychotic as a character. I mean, you never see Greyworm marching around Khaleesi talking about how he wants to burn all of Westeros to the ground. Yet, here we have some revered soldier badass who outright wants to glass Earth. Can they kill her off already?

I'm not popping back into this thread until I wrap this shit up, but damn, this is some fucking great tv.

Pilot guy repeating the sim against the gun ship they already survived out of fear of losing another single person was a great piece of character work.

Amen, sir. Spread the word. Not sure why but this continually feels like one of television's best kept secrets.

Because you're in Britain, and Netflix leave it such an inordinate amount of time before releasing new epsiodes that the majority of fans have got fucked off waiting and downloaded the bloody thing. Kills event television when the thing you're releasing has already been seen by most people, and on different schedules.

I'm about halfway through season 2 and will be joining mongycore in hiding til I see it through this evening. It's taken me a while as the mid-season climax was so amazing that I'm a bit thrown by how they can get their impetus back, but it hasn't disappointed me so far.

Oh, and Alex is my favourite character too. I love how the ship moves with a swagger that other vessels don't have.

The second half of season two is goddamned fucking amazing.

Behrooz's mom and all of the Martian marines are still miscast, though.

Honestly, you can get some good mileage out of that one.

Hmm...probably the "black butte"/Missandei joke.

Yeah, that one was pretty bad. And I tell bad jokes here every day so I should definitely know.

Agreed.

Ok, I finally got around to watching season one now that it's streaming, and I binged the whole thing in one sitting.

Whew. Where is the marketing for this show? It's amazing.

Where can I get my grubby mitts on season two? Or do I have to buy it?

What did you think of Behrooz's mom?

Isn't the show great!  The second half of season two is amazing.

Glad you enjoyed it Jacob!

Is this one of those threads where the Ghost of JohnnyTM will swoop down upon me if I mentioned the dreaded source material?  Because I mainlined the first three books, thought they were great. Then I started book four, Cibola Burn, and couldn't be bothered to finish it.  To anyone in the know - should I?  Does it get better in later books?

I think it's worth finishing, but it's also a bit of an outlier in the books with the focus on weird goings on on an alien world instead of space stuff. The following books get back to space, and some earth-shattering stuff happens that changes up the dynamic on the Rocinante quite a bit.

Yes. Nemesis Games is IMO the best book after the first. It's a complete switch in the narrative but it just works, and you learn a lot about the crew.

loathed the fourth book. So much so I dropped the series until a friend told me that they improved massively again at which point I struggled/skimmed through Cibola and then carried on.

So, I saw the show first - fucking love it - and then decided to check out Leviathan Wakes. Just finished and...

Huh. Like, it hits all the notes (obviously) but the whole Game of Thrones ‘tell it from this character’s POV’ doesn’t quite work when you only have TWO characters. Sorely, sorely missed Chrisjen and the political machinations. Is she a made-up character or do we just meet her later on, like some strange Ender’s Shadow retelling of the events of the first book?

Still, will get back to the written series when I have however many hours to continue on EPIC SCI FI SAGA.

Avasarala is introduced in book two as a POV character.

The show is definitely interesting for those of us that read the books first. The behind the scenes machinations you never see in the book are expanded in such interesting way to match the themes and highlight character journeys we weren't privy to in print.

Now just give me my season three trailer dammit!

Aaah, thank you, Rod. Glad to hear and will add the next to my list. Got to get outta space for a bit, but will return.

Finished season 2 tonight, just great. I'm trying to stay away from Stranger Things 2 (friend of mine is out of town, we're having a viewing party when he gets back), so this filled the bill nicely.

Read some spoilers about the next The Expanse book coming Dec 5th.

I read the opening chapter (the authors linked to it on Twitter) and was like, "Whaaa?"

I appreciate the boldness. It's hard to keep writing about the same cast of characters for a long time without getting into ruts.

That being said, there better be a good payoff.

I wonder if they're planning to do a bunch of novellas to fill in the gap.

I never thought I'd see the day when a film/television series made me not want to continue the books, but that is what is happening with Expanse.  And I could totally see myself having been really into the books if I'd come at them fresh.

Am I getting old and impatient?

No, it's someone else who is wrong.

It's a weird stance, considering that the rate the show is going they'll need 12 seasons to get through the books that have already been published. And there'll be 10 more books in that time.

I thought I read that this was going to be 9 books total?

*Looks at synopsis*. Woah! Who is President now? That actor/actress is grinning from ear to ear now I suspect.

It's actually the first two chapters, but I stopped after breezing through the first. It's only two weeks away and I'm currently rereading Babylon Ashes. It can wait. But man it's ballsy.

Actually they are getting to third book material in the third season so it is matching up fairly well. They've reworked some of the timelines but they are still in track to be roughly a book a season. Basically finishing up the ending of the last book at the beginning of the next season. Kind of like a rolling book to season adaptation. So far.

The newest book in the series came out on Tuesday and it sounds like it definitely isn't treading space-water like the last book. Which was good but it seems like some stuff I've been wondering about might actually start to happen in this one.

Will be diving into this after this Repairman Jack book I'm reading at the moment.

Ugh. Every update to this thread that isn’t a release date for season 3 wounds my heart.

Then rejoice - they have wrapped filming of Season 3 ! So it's sooner than you think.

I am also about half way through Persepolis Rising. After the initial shock of the jump, it's starting to get going and the pace is tighter than a couple of others in the series. Plus the return of

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Crisjen

was fabulous.

Just finished Persepolis Rising. Jeez, they don't hold back on moving the plot forward do they?
