My friend, when you make over $10 billion a year in merchandise (JUST merchandise), what are you giving up exactly?  I'll say this one last fucking time, because you're starting to get on my nerves and becoming as bad as fleed and Barry... any potential future R1 sales will be replaced by another spin off.  New characters they don't have to kill off, in addition to the billions they already make from everything else.  So no, they don't give flying pig fuck about anything but money since they make mountains of it and don't funnel it back into the industry like Lucas did.

Maybe I'm naïve, but I don't think Kathleen Kennedy just cares about the money. She also wants to make good movies. Look at her track record. There are exceptions - CRYSTAL SKULL - but not many.

Yeah, but she's also just a cog in the machine.

I'm (and I'm assuming Bucho too) talking about Disney.

Yeah, Disney has the last word obviously, but judging by MOANA, ZOOTROPLIS and FINDING GORY they do want to make good movies.

On the other hand, CARS 2 and PIRATES 4...

It's also not like you wont be able to buy R1 action figures, t-shirts and other merch for years to come.  Old SW movies merch still sells by the truckload.  And the merch has always made way WAY more than the movies.  They also have the opportunity to do prequels about those characters in movie, cartoon or book form.  They are not losing anything.

Jesus, why would any kid want to buy Rogue One action figures?

So they can send them off on morose, joyless adventures that they know can never really happen because the characters are already dead?

kids can use the action figures to create their own alternate happy ending!

GENIUS DISNEY!!!

The main point is that LA LA LAND is the greatest movie of the 21st century and that it should be turned into a religion, with Gosling being the new Jesus.
Funny, I heard that it's very overrated, the music isn't catchy and that the movie is disengenous fluff. Sad.
I'd rather talk about Obi-Wan being Rey's grandpappy than about fucking LA LA LAND.

Which says it all, really.
You don't like singing in the rain? Classic Hollywood musicals?

But LA LA LAND is no SINGIN' IN THE RAIN.

So they can recreate the personality suppressing horrors of war from the comfort of their own bedrooms...

Kids played with Rambo merchandise!

Come now!

Me personally, I didn't like the movie but there's a pretty damn sweet Krennic action figure in the background of the RedLetterMedia podcast video.

(I think R1 merch is aimed at the inner-child of adult fans.)

I have, but the trump wording of the joke required certain liberties.

Don't let this Award season fawning over LA LA LAND sour the movie for you. It's a trap you must avoid at all costs!

It's the artist all over again.

An ok movie. Safe. Unchallenging. Simple.

Unlike Rogue One which is gritty fuckin ROCK HARD murder! That takes balls.

Except I felt something purely delightful watching LA LA LAND whereas with ROGUE ONE I kept wondering if I've lost the capacity to be moved by a film at all. A dreadful experience.

Never saw THE ARTIST though.

You should check out hallmark cards you'd LUV those!
It didn't take long for people to start rolling their eyes at former edgy wunderkind Damien Chazelle.

His intro in that movie is next level legendary. Better than ANYTHING in la la land.
Well, of course. It's a pretty sweet intro.

To change the subject away from another Freeman flipout, here's Folding Ideas (YouTube channel I got turned onto by the Suicide Squad thread) discussing The Force Awakens and Kylo Ren:

Someone please start a Kickstarter to send that guy to the barber.

His haircut fluctuates.

Watch the video, cretin.
Give him a personality while he's there.

Can someone catch me up on this?  I thought Chazelle was supposed to be the next big studio franchise director in training.  Haven't seen Pretty White People The Movie yet.

The video is on point, which reminds me of how amusing it is when folks criticize Kylo Ren for being a Darth Vader wannabe... as Freeman would say, "THAT IS THE ENTIRE FUCKING POINT".

As with the SUICIDE SQUAD vid (but to a lesser degree) the content is solid, even if it just reiterates stuff many of us have already said.

That said, I'm not looking forward to seeing this guy's face in thread after thread for the next few years.

Can making a blase dismissal of a story by noting the protagonists are white die in 2017?

In the context of capitalism, is there any act of rebellion? Or is it all just making the machines of commerce work in favor of your interests?

Ya damn fools.

Kylo Ren is an actual character, unlike Rey, or the crushing bores in R1.
