Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017) Pre-Release Discussion brought to you by Overlord - Page 9

I can't wait to see the next episode reveal that the reason Kylo Ren fucked over the Jedi Academy is because he found out he was the actual incesteous spawn of Luke and Leia one hot, and lonely night while Han was incased in carbonite.

Han would never know.  He could never know!

It's true.

ALL OF IT.

(oh yes... tender forbidden brother/sister relationzzzzzzz)

Yup, I see Disney for that.

I'm still surprised people aren't speculating there will be a trailer attached to the DVD release. Totally makes sense if you ask me. Then again I don't work in marketing.

The rise of Youtube and Netflix kind of put a stop to using home video releases to promote trailers.

But yeah, it's still a long road to December.  Plenty of time to pimp Rogue One to the masses.  Not that they need to.  A new Star Wars at Christmas?  EVERYONE'S going to see that.

I think it's almost a guarantee that the first Episode 8 teaser will be with Rogue One.

I think you are not going out on a limb on that one - though it is possible they don't even bother. Is there a single person that would buy a ticket for Rogue One that wouldn't already be in line for Episode 8?

I do think you'll see a Rogue One teaser trailer with Jungle Book, and then they'll put it on the DVD too. Less likely is with Civil War.

Why? In terms of needing to put them on social media such as youtube negates the need whatsoever to put them on home release? It's kind of a needless thing to have on the DVD I guess, as it will be put up on  starwars.com about the same time anyone anywhere can see it in a theatre, just like every trailer for VII was.

As an aside - why mention Netflix? It's a subscription movie streaming service.

I saw this listed immediately above the Legends of Tomorrow thread on the new-posts page and somehow came to the conclusion that it was actually Star Wars Episode VIII: The Legend of Curly's Gold.

That is all.

If Harrison Ford returns as Han Solo's long lost twin brother Curly Solo... we'll be in for quite the treat.

"Kylo Ren? I crap bigger than him!"

I heard he was SHREDDED.

Dude, Matt straight up sucks.

Because it's really taking over the market home video has dominated for decades.

For the same reason they put trailers on Youtube since that's how most people watch them, nobody (that is to say, the masses) really rents or buys home video releases these days.  It's a shrinking market because most folks will just stream a movie on Netflix if they want to watch it.  So distributors might think it a waste of disk space to put a trailer on a disc when they can just watch the trailer on YT before checking the movie out on Netflix (or any of the other streaming sites).

I don't see why Netflix would play trailers for movies that they already don't have the streaming rights for. Also, they don't want people turning off Netflix and going to the theater.

Because Star Wars trailers are massive draws.

Netflix would probably pay a king's ransom for an exclusive Rogue One or Episode VIII trailer and they'd be right to.

It would also be foolish for Star Wars to make that deal. If they make an exclusive offer to showcase the trailer it will be a website that everyone has access to.

Corporate synergy and association, my friends.  If anyone is going to make that money and get those eyeballs, it'll be some Disney offshoot.

It'll be on Dancing With the Stars, cross-promoted with Rebels and ABC Family's Freeform's Pretty Little Liars.

Not if it was an exclusive to Netflix trailer that was different to the main one released on YouTube etc for the masses.

Using that logic it would be a waste of disk space to put ANY special feature on a disc.

And don't you think that special features are kind of disappearing?  Because I am seeing less and less of them.

Rian Johnson just tweeted this. Four weeks of shooting done...

This can't come quick enough. Need another SW2.0 hit.

Everyone's still dealing with TFA fatigue, Rian. Careful with your posts.

They're shooting in Dubrovnik now.  This spoiler box contains a link to photos of some very

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

There are also reports of

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
a speeder chase, and some kind of fight w/ Ridley's double which is being shot on the deck of a ship they're making over into something more Star Wars-y.
...must ...not ...click ...link
Nothing that exciting. You're not missing out.
Extrapolating from the first JJ-Wars, I'm going to hazard a guess that one of the main characters treks off to a forlorn swamp planet to learn about the Force while the others get involved in an altercation with the main villain that ends with somebody frozen in carbonite.

It'll be meganite. A billion times thicker and it'll be black, because, when you bought your Force Awakens ticket, you entered Star Wars Extreme Mode where everything is bigger, darker and extreme-r.

Right, of course. How silly of me. Also it'll be like five people getting frozen in it, because that means five times the FEELS, baby!
Could be worse. Could be unobtainonite.

Not going to post them, but if you get yourself on Twitter and follow @StarWarsJunk you'll see a slew of BTS Episode VIII photos.

Lots of weird-ass aliens and almost medieval Star Wars soldiers.

Have unfollowed @StarWarsJunk now as I'm wanting to go into this as spoiler-free as possible - so if you post any pics in here please spoiler tag them.

HOLY SHIT. WE DON'T HAVE A SPOILER / NON-SPOILER THREAD FOR THIS MOVIE???

I predict a deja-vu inspiring "You shouldn't have posted that!" / "It's not a spoiler. It's a rumor / concept art / something I saw on a t-shirt" argument within the next four to eight weeks.

I'm gonna post a fake picture of Kylo Ren killing Finn and then proceed to get banned from CHUD

lol

Just don't post any pictures of Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Stormtroopers
- I want to be surprised if any turn up in this movie.

Odds are even better on "no" than last time, since my family was the only reason I saw TFA, and they were so disappointed that I doubt they'll want to see this one either.

Heh, the fallout from that concept art was great.

"Don't post pictures of these spaceship drawings!"
"They're just concept drawings - we don't know if they're in the movie or not."
"They're ruining the movie. I want to see them on screen first."
"We don't know if they're in the movie though. They could just be pre-lim sketches."
"You're ruining the movie!!!"

What did we get? Millennium Falcon, X-Wings and TIE Fighters.

And Leia's space-bus.

Fun fun fun.
I kinda wish I'd written down more of their reactions at the time. They thought Kylo Ren was more gross and creepy than threatening, and my mom was irritated by the fact that the movie is basically a string of chase sequences with a space battle tacked on at the end. They also thought Han's exit was bullshit. But they were greatly relieved that Han and Leia never kissed.
You know, based on what you've just written, I don't think I enjoyed it either.

I saw it four times but now you've just dropped those well thought out insights I realise the errors I made while sitting there in the theatre and grinning my tits off.
Mission freaking accomplished, baby.

Ah, the tears. They are so sweet.

Wait back up.  Was Han in Canada?  Isn't that the oldest lie in America?

Shit wrong thread.  Sorry guys.

Dude, stop.

Sorry.  I'm out.  Too much I know.  Was trying to be funny.  I suck at being funny.  Sorries all around.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

They all converted to the Resistance after finding out about Finn.

Technically not a spoiler since you see no Stormtroopers in the pictures!

Our trio working it!

Ugh Daisy.  Also Oscar is the best.
