Did Barry get banned, or is he just absorbing another sun and recharging?

Sadly, no ban.

You should be banned for opinion terrorism!
Wait, my opinions actually terrorize you?

Is it possibly because you know I'm right and that's why you're terrorized?

I'd say recast.   Even if you go CGI, it will still be someone else's performance.   Some older actresses I think could do well in the role...

Helen Mirren

Meryl Streep (She's played Fisher in "Postcards from the Edge"

And my favorite.....

Cherry Jones.   She's played the president on 24 and she has roughly the same look and voice as modern day Fisher.   I think she'd be an acceptable replacement.   Iconic parts have been recast before.   This one is no different.   Disney was going to have to do this ANYWAY eventually.

Not true at all.

There's no way Leia, in an alternate reality where Fisher lives, sticks around beyond Episode 9. This trilogy is about passing the torch and introducing new characters.

Maybe when Disney reboots circa 2040 we get a new Leia.

Yup. STAR WARS should go on like a soap opera, where characters get retired in favor for the next generation, and so on. Star Wars is not about Luke, Han and Leia anymore. Retire Leia in a way that works for the story, and move on.

Barry's creepy obsessiveness is really fucking...well....CREEPY.

I think if I read "...honoring Fisher's legacy..." in a Barry post one more time I'm gonna hurl(my phone)..

I'm still waiting to hear what he does in the filmmaking industry.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if his steps into filmmaking are along the same lines as the main character in Peeping Tom.

A google search of Barry's email finds only that he posts at Whedonesque fairly regularly.

Open on an alien barber working on an unseen figure in a reclining chair. "General Leia, this new hairdo will have you looking ten years younger!"

He raises the chair. It's Natalie Portman with some of her hair dyed white.

For the rest of the movie, characters will look curiously at Leia before asking "Did you do something with your hair?"

Also, has anyone seen the idea floating around that Fisher's heart attack could've had something to do with having to lose so much weight relatively quickly for someone her age and size who wasn't already regularly keeping fit?

star war... literally causing death

From back in 2015: (when I'm sure we must've talked about this in some form here as well)

http://www.inquisitr.com/2609842/mark-hamill-weight-loss-vs-carrie-fishers-diet-for-star-wars-how-they-lost-85-lbs-total-why-shes-angry/

Their pal, Carrie Fisher, will be there too and 35 pounds lighter thanks to her own weight-loss regimen, reports the Chicago Tribune.

This is not the first time that Carrie has lost weight for Star Wars. Even though she only weighed 105 pounds in 1977, the actress was requested to shed even more weight to portray Princess Leia. At 19 and 5-foot-1, Fisher took it in stride. But then, decades later, came the invitation to play the same role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens with a new weight loss requirement of 35 pounds.

Carrie initially assumed that with the times a-changing and new awareness of issues such as body image and sexism in Hollywood, she would not be required to shed pounds. The role seemed to be hers; and, it was, as long as she shed the weight.

And yes, the actress was angry at the pressure to achieve a set weight loss goal.

“They don’t want to hire all of me — only about three-quarters!” declared Carrie. “Nothing changes, it’s an appearance-driven thing. I’m in a business where the only thing that matters is weight and appearance. That is so messed up. They might as well say get younger, because that’s how easy it is.”

This isn’t the first time that Carrie has been outspoken about her weight. She also was a Jenny Craig spokeswoman who was candid about how she struggled to be “good” on her diet.

“It was good that I had to be accountable, because I’m a big, childish, 54-year-old cheat,” admitted the actress. “I mean, everything I seem to start I end up abusing and have to stop it. There’s not much left, though.”

As to precisely how she lost those 35 pounds this time around, Fisher credits a strict diet and fitness plan, reported Business Insider.

Although Mark Hamill credited his own 50-pound weight loss to a strict diet that cut out foods he liked, Carrie believes that exercise trumps diet when it comes to her own weight loss success.

“I have a harder time eating properly than I do exercising. It’s easier for me to add an activity than to deny myself something,” explained the actress. “When I do lose the weight I don’t like that it makes me feel good about myself. It’s not who I am.”

Carrie blames Hollywood for maintaining the focus on weight.

“Everyone in LA says, ‘Oh you look good,’ and you listen for them to say you’ve lost weight. It’s never ‘How are you?’ or ‘You seem happy!'” the actress slammed of the entertainment industry’s preoccupation with weight loss.

She was always obsessed with her weight, even in the OT days.

And did a lot of drugs. Certainly helps with an early exit even if you clean up. We can't all be Keith Richards.

of course!

...did Mark Hamill ever partake a bit?

I think he's admitted to dabbling a bit in the past, yes.

WATCH OUT MR. HAMILL!!!

Pretty sure everyone over the age of 17 in the 70s did some drugs.

WATCH OUT, EVERYONE!!!

Sure, and why wouldn't she (or any woman) be in this industry?

I think the case for forwakens stings even more because with her being the iconic performer who played the role nearly 40 years ago, you'd think that such pressures wouldn't be AS stringent for her to be able to play the part.

Especially with LOLA FX's services being so heavily used in the industry all over much younger actors regularly (which, of course, would come with its own issues).

What about you in the '80s, mmmmmmmmm Michael?

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

I was (and remain) incredibly boring and unadventurous when it comes to controlled substances. Been drunk maybe three times in my life.

In terms of Lucas-esque development of tech didn't they push the envelope on the Commodore's beloved digital necromancy or nah?

In terms of not giving a flying pig fuck about advancing anything but their financial portfolio and pleasing shareholders didn't they have the BALLS to kill every Rogue One hero, reducing potential revenues from both future films and merchandising featuring the Rogue One gang or nah?

Likewise, references to the force in movies where the force isn't actually important at all rather sucks the mystique from the concept, it just becomes stand in magic.

Did any of the planets in Rogue One show us multiple environments or nah? (I'll give you a pass on this one if you're one of the inadequates in this thread who's only seen the film once.)

Was the Force presented in Rogue One as "stand in magic" or as a "mysterious spiritual element"? Or nah?

I guess after the whole Anakin thing, Obi-Wan figured "fuck, dude, no asshole Jedi Council to tell me not to get laid anymore!" and tore up the Tatooine backwaters with that McGregor/Guiness charm?

Obi-Wan's post seclusion years were spent counting chickens, meditating, and pimping everything that moved.

I'm probably the only one who thinks this, but have any of you guys ever stopped to notice that Ewan McGregor is actually quite a beautiful man?

I call foul on Obi-Wan being the most natural Force mindtricker!

The video conveniently ignores the fact that Qui-Gon successfully does it on Boss Nass!

neeeeeeeeee!!!
neeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

That said, if she must absolutely be related to someone, I'm fine with her being related to Obi-Wan.

Whatever

That's some Jedi mind trick right there.

I'm having another Barry moment.

The Forceback scene with Kylo Ren walking toward Rey with his saber you can see someone or something move behind her.  So that may just blow out his whole theory of them recognizing each other in their visions.

I’m highly skeptical of the “Rey is a Kenobi” theory, if for no other reason than it would raise a whole set of new questions which would need to be answered for the movie-going audience.  I’m struggling to come up with an organic way in which such a revelation - and its accompanying necessary backstory - could ever become relevant to the narrative.

hehehe now I want it just to see how they'd try to write themselves out of the corner!

All those questions could be answered in the Kenobi movie: The Jedi Who Loved Me: A Star Wars Story.
