Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)(R. Howard, et al.) Pre-Release Discussion brought to you by Overlord - Page 41

Rian Johnson would be the greatest Star War villain of all time.

Sorry, he IS the greatest villain.  And I adore him.

You have no idea how close I am to blocking you.  No clue.

Looks like the main villain is actually Boba Fett. What a surprise.

Releasing this in May, and with it increasingly looking like Disney's writing this one off, is actually the smart move.

The reason being it gives them a full year and a half before Episode IX is released. Giving that some breathing room to be more of an event.

To echo what Movie Bob said, it's really interesting that the main saga films have been allowed to try different stuff and make more interesting choices while the spin-off films have been committee'd to death. When you'd think it would be the opposite.

Is this confirmed? If so, then blech.

August is a dumping ground, not May. I think their hands are tied. The breathing room does need to benefit Episode 9, but the time slot is typical Star Wars territory.

Nah breh, I've done the google and the twitter and don't see any mention of Boba Fett trending.

I would have zero problems with Boba Fett being the villain. Zero.  You know he's going to turn up in one of these movies again.  I would rather see it here than in his own stand alone movie.

Again, I'd much rather have a YOJIMBO type story with Boba Fett.  I think that could be a lot of fun.

Without the need for it to actually get made (although, sure, why not?) I would one day like to know what Josh Trank's Boba Fett movie would have been like.

After seeing the WIP one sheet, I was happy it didn't work out.

Oh sure, it doesn't need to exist. But my ideal version would have the plot revolve around Boba Fett, but for him to be a mostly silent and distant figure, with the actual cast being totally new characters.

But considering the way the universe works, a Boba Fett movie would probably remove his mask in the first five minutes, give him a kid sidekick and have him find the heart to protect a village or something.

Imps on one side...Rebels on the other.  The old man was right, there's money to be made here.

One of the people who writes for Making Star Wars got an early look at some of the figures. He quickly deleted the tweet but not before it was posted all over Reddit.

Why you always lyin', Serpico?

Aaaah Guardians of the Galaxy.

Still the best Star Wars movie since the Original Trilogy.

I agree with you, Bucho. I agree with you like the wind.

Which brings up Serenity 'I am a leaf in the Wind', the best Han Solo movie possible.

It's pretty damn great. Also, my personal favorite Chiwetel Ejiofor performance.

So, Boba Fett.

Are they going to have Temuera Morrison do the voice? I hated when they did that with version 5,286 of the Special Editions.

Absolutely.  Serenity is a treasure.  I'm so happy we got that finale.

How ballsy was it of Whedon to cast a no-name Chewiebeetle Edgeofmyfork as the villain instead of a known actor that might have marketed better?  Of course, time has borne out that it was the right call.

As much as I love Guardians of the Galaxy, Star Wars really isn't more than a superficial comparison.  They're not that similar.

They're both space movies aren't they? What more could you possibly need?

"Ocean's 11 and Heat are both movies about complicated criminal heists, what more could you possibly need?"

But I think you were probably tongue in cheek.

Off the top of my head, Farscape (particularly the later seasons) and definitely Serenity (the show, not as much, but the movie, absolutely) were the closest in "feel" to Star Wars.

A lasting good movie.

I watched Lexx.

Serenity didn't have the requisite boyish protagonist, which Guardians of the Galaxy has in spades, nor the requisite exotic alien feel, which Guardians of the Galaxy has in spades, nor the requisite magical feel, which Guardians of the Galaxy also has since it's part of the magical Marvel universe and you can't do what Groot does without magic.

Plus, when I say, "Hey Lordy me old cobber, remind me what's that space movie which introduced us to a large, powerful, huggable alien who is the sidekick to a cantankerous cynic with a secret heart of gold?" you will be totally flummoxed as to whether I refer to A New Hope or Guardians of the Galaxy.

Farscape I haven't seen for 73 years though and barely remember how it goes. You may be onto it with that one.

No, it substituted a girlish protagonist who also has hidden powers and is being stalked by an implacable, quasi-superhuman henchmen enemy who is bent on doing whatever evil "must be done" in order to unite the [GEOGRAPHIC SPACE AREA] in peace and security and usher in a better world.

Oh, and there was a rebellion.  And it lost.  And is scattered everywhere with pockets of resistance.

And the Captain basically talks like Han Solo.

Firefly/Serenity?

It's fine.

Oh wait, I forgot to add in the bit about how, unlike Star Wars, Serenity has no monstrous, galaxy-threatening supervillain our heroes team up to defeat at the end. Nor does the boyish hero discover his father was no ordinary man, but a magical man. Nor a thing at the end where they get rewarded for their heroism by a lady with a crazy hairdo, which Guardians of the Galaxy also has in spades.

Thank goodness Disney owns both studios, or there'd be a field day for lawyers up in the hizzy.
