So there it is, the official new title.  We also have a poster thanks to the Vin Man:

Has another other mainstream series kept numbered titles all the way up to 8 before? Usually they'll notice that it's starting to look kind of dumb and switch it up a little. Even Star Wars is trying to downplay them.

Will the next one be FURIOUS 9 or FURIOUS NINE?  FURIOUS IX?

Will it take place in Germany and be called FURIOUS NEIN?

Doesn't matter.  This is the most bullet proof franchise going right now...they could literally name the entries '8' or '9' and that'd be sufficient.

They'll go with "F9", as in "Fine".

FURIOUS9

So... Will they be legit superheroes this time around?
So this will be an action movie remake of Silence of The Lambs with them having to chase down some next level villain with Statham's help?

Depends on whether or not you consider the Friday the 13th films "mainstream". They didn't drop the number until the ninth film, Jason Goes to Hell, but they arguably resumed the practice with Jason X - a film I forgot even existed until I typed out that sentence.

Will Southern drawl Lucas Black join Dom's Team?

Don't want to mess up the formula by casting too many real actors.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was "&9"

The poster implies a New York setting, could they be going smaller this time? I don't think you can go any bigger than F6 or F7, so making a more constrained film would be a welcome change. Though that wouldn't necessarily make it any cheaper, I've understood closing several streets in Manhattan can be as expensive as wrecking buildings in Abu Dhabi or dropping sports cars from an aeroplane.

Making this the the For Your Eyes Only to Furious 7's Moonraker makes sense.

I mean, it can't be that fast; it's New York. But it will be pretty Furious, because it's New York. Parking alone is a goddamn nightmare here.

My first thought too (even if I've never been there), but THE FRENCH CONNECTION and THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM pulled off the fast-part quite well.

How would setting it one of the largest cities in the world, mean they would be going smaller?

If they set it in corn field in Nebraska, would that mean it's going bigger?

I imagine he means that it by setting it in a single, urban city as opposed to the world charting in the previous sequels, Fast 8 would be a "smaller" movie.

They could work in the different islands of New York and having to get from one to another in a set amount of time.

haha. I bet you it'd be like a 20$ cab ride to get around the entirety of New York in this movie.

Exactly. Smaller isn't the right word, maybe constrained (which I mentioned) or grounded? I liked the FYEO / MOONRAKER comparison, if that's really where they're going with this. The original ending of F7 was supposed to open up a bigger world for the sequels, whatever that means. They could still go to space or a corn field in Nebraska.

Please let it be space. i mean, it has to go their at some point, right?

Space has to be the final film, right? Vin saying "I live my life a quarter parsec at a time" and having him fly off forever into the vast unknown of the galaxy is where this series has to end.
They go to space, Vin is injected with alien goo. He starts mutating and his friends are forced to leave him in space. His final words to them: "I am Groot".

8 billion dollars domestic, guaranteed!

Would take quite a deal between Universal and Disney/Marvel...

...but I find it reasonable.

All Universal has to do is trade Disney the Hulk solo film rights, and these two film universes can be one.

I thought maybe the Police Academy series, but they only hit seven films, and only the first six were numbered.
I think you guys need to revisit the Bloodfist series.

Bloodfist VIII was a return to Bloodfist IV form.

The Henry series kept the VIII in the title.

Reports say the FAST 8 gang is planning to detonate the largest explosion ever in Iceland, which is quite ambitious since the country is pretty much built on volcanoes. But it seems they are shooting outside NY after all.

They might want to hire a director first.
They already have: F. Gary Gray.

They need to drive their cars into an active volcano.

Any hope that they hire Marshall for the next one and we can have a dead Paul Walker strapped into the car next to Vin?

They aren't Nowegians, Mac. They're Icelanders.

Oh hell yes: http://birthmoviesdeath.com/2016/02/09/furiosa-herself-may-be-fast-8s-villain

Charlize Theron would be the shit.

PLEASE don't be playing a silver spoon corporate tight ass with daddy issues.

If this is happening, I hope Mel Gibson appears in the stinger wanting revenge.

Not groundbreaking news or anything, but I was watching the extras for THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM. They were shooting a car chase in lower Manhattan area, and had to work around an NYPD-issued 35 mph speed limit for all of their vehicles. If that applies to the entire island, the FAST 8 gang are in for a treat. Cue Mötley Crüe's "Too Fast For Love".

Sounds like this is a done deal.
So is this the origin of Furiosa?

Goddamn, I need Theron and Elsa Pataky-Thorwife to get into a cat fight in this movie.  This has to happen.

First pic of Theron's character.

That's checking a lot of boxes for me right now...

I guess this is going to be one of those films where I root for the villain. Nothing against that.

This is a series where you root more for the secondary characters than the leads anyway.

That's absolutely true. And it's a bit tragic how much Vin seems unaware of this.
I dunno. I root for Vin too.

I root for the WHOLE FAMILY!
