The Chicago Cubs March to the 2016 World Series

Embrace the Target

It has begun.

Spring Training is underway and Kyle Schwarber is already making an impact

On car windows in the parking lot.

The 25 man roster won't be that different from last year.  It's going to be up to the players to improve from last year

C Montero

1B Rizzo

2B Zobrist

SS Russell

3B Bryant

RF Soler

CF Heyward

LF Schwarber

Bench: 2B Baez, C Ross, OF Coughlan, Sczzur

SP Arrietta

SP Lester

SP Lackey

SP Hammel

SP Hendricks

Adam Warren may sneak in to the 5th spot if he's impressive in camp.

CL Rondon

RP Stroup

RP Grimm

RP Wood

RP Cahill

RP Warren

That's 23 guys.  There will still be a bullpen arm and a bench players that will make it.  Guys like RP Carl Edwards, RP Clayton Richard, INF Tommy LaStella.

Not to sure on the batting order yet.  Probably won't know for sure till opening day.  They don't have a legit lead off hitter and they still may sign one esp if they trade Soler for a starter.

I would guess

1. Heyward

2. Zobrist

3. Rizzo

4. Bryant

5. Schwarber

6. Soler

7. Montero

8. Pitcher

9. Russell

Have fun National League.

Some good people to follow on twitter for the Cubs

Jesse Rogers @ESPNChiCubs

Carrie Muskat   @CarrieMuskat

And David Ross is retiring at years end.  He's keeping a journal.  Will be a best seller if the Cubs win the WS.

Beautiful! 60 degrees in Chicago and I'm ready for baseball! PLAY BALL ALREADY!!!!!

ATTENTION: If you are going to visit the Cubs in Mesa for Spring Training DO NOT park behind the right field section.  Kyle Schwarber hit his 2nd car.

And I wish the national Media would stop making a big deal about the Cubs being a 4-1 favorite to win the World Series while no other team is in single digits.  They are that low because there are a shit ton of Cub fans who want to be able to say they bet on them and cash the ticket.  Hell I did it in 2003.

When the Cubs eventually win Vegas will lose a ton of money.  They are just trying to minimize it.

The Legend grows.  Did you read that Heyward is getting Ross a Hotel suite on every away game?  Also, Rizz and Bryant are going to document (video and pics) his final year.  Just shows what kind of impact he's had.

A bit of a shocking trade The Cubs acquired RP Aaron Brooks for OF/IF Chris Coughlan.  They must see something that they can fix in him because his stats aren't that great.

Zorbrist can play the OF so I suppose Coughlan was replaceable.  Plus I'm sure there are a few OF on the market they can pick up.

It had to be crushing to hear you were traded from this team.

And holy shit the Cubs resigned Dexter Fowler.  1 year deal with mutual option for next year.

Where does he play?  Does this mean Soler is a goner?

You guys are totally the favorite.  The best roster by far.  Why even play the season out?  Save everybody the time and effort, just go ahead and schedule the parade.  Nothing could possibly go wrong here.

I can't stop fucking laughing!  This offseason has been nuts!

Fowler to play center, Heyward right...Soler will move around. Heyward in C some as well. Kind of looks like Soler is now Coghlan

Does Adam LaRoache's kid go to school?  That's insane that he brought his kids every day and had a locker for him.  Good move for the White Sox.  LaRoache was a bum.

Hector Rondon is getting rocked in Spring Training.  Eek.

You know, if I was LaRoache's kid, I woulda been like- "Hey dad, it's okay.  Really.  I'll go hang out with my friends or something.  Just put a few extra mill into my trust fund or something."

So you’ve got players preparing for nicotine withdrawal. You’ve got the team opening up SI’s baseball preview issue, which has the Cubs reaching—and losing—the World Series. You’ve got Donald Trump threatening to fund attack ads going after the Ricketts family for “the rotten job they’re doing with the Chicago Cubs.” And you’ve got mimes.

Mimes, yep.

Love that they are still keeping it loose despite the expectations.

30 minutes till the start of something special.

Cubs 8 Angels 2

The White Sox would be sponsored by Aurillo's pizza.  Shittiest I've tried in years

Only thing I don't like Is Zobrist 3rd.  That should be Rizzo/Bryant.

I have a feeling Zobrist won't stay there long.  Think He's a better 6 hitter

Well looks like the Padres will have players available soon.

1-0

Tons of positives from Arrietta, to pitch counts, solid bullpen work and manufacturing runs.  They made Richards throw 41 pitches in the 4th and got hin to over 100 by the 4th.

Negatives-Zobrist.  He was good in the field but at the play andon the bases-Yikes.  Picked off and double play to kill innings.  It's one game but I really like Rizzo 3rd.  Zobrist should have a career year if he stays hitting 3rd.

Zobrist batted 3rd because he's hitting over .500 against Richards.  That'll probably change today.

What a great way to start the season.  Arrietta didn't look sharp the first couple of innings, but he turned it up the last 2-3.

Can't wait for tonight!

When will the Mariners stop squanding their talented players?

Never. Thats when.

2-0  I won't do this for every game

And Lester is locked on point.  If Arrieta and Lester start pushing eachother to be the best the Cubs could easily have two 20 game winners

Trout/Pujlos are 0 for the season.

My favorite stat from Opening Day

Cubs pitchers threw 109 pitches

Angels pitchers threw 188

Bryant-28 pitches in 5 AB

Rizzo 24 in 5 AB

Soler 24 in 5 AB

Montero 23 in 5 AB

They are making the other team work hard and getting into the bullpen.  Just like last year.

Just wanted to say thanks for Starlin Castro.  He's on pace for 567 RBI this year.

Thread Starter

No problem.  Cubs don't mind giving less fortunate teams their scraps.

Good for Castro tho.  He needed a change of scenery.

Let's go for 3 straight!

Thanks Anya.  This is the march to the 2016 Cubs World Series Champs, not the march for Mariners 4th place hopes.

I thought this WAS the 2016 MLB thread!

I'd be shocked if MRI reveals just a sprain. I fear this is gonna be bad. Fuck!

Out for the year! Sucks but we are deep enough to withstand this.

I's sickening. Would be worse if they added no parts but the addition of Heyward helps

Why did they pith to Godlschmidt in the 8th yesterday? Everyone but Maddon was calling for the walk.

Still 4 quality starts by the Cubs starters and Lackey gutted out a win. Bullpen was solid say for the 1 hiccup. 4-1 to start the year.

I'll take it.

Grienke has looked shitty these 2 starts. Not good with that contract

Arrieta crushed that HR. Upper deck. The man can do it all.

In Jake Arrieta's last 22 starts he's hit more home runs (3) than he's allowed (2). via Twitter

5-1

Hopefully the Reds aren't for real because have 4 really good teams in the division is no fun.  We'll find out .

I'll be at the game next Sunday.  Suppose to hit 70.  Way better than the 45 degrees today.

Rolling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man, this offense and pitching has been outstanding!!!!!!

This team knows it's good.   Let's go home and keep the ball rolling man!!!!!!!!!!

I love that AZ is like playing a home game.  It's going to be a madhouse tomorrow.  Can't wait.

Video of players walking into the new clubhouse for the first time.  Looks amazing it's the biggest in the league next to the Yanks.

Lot's of disco dancing in there for sure.

You ever take the Wrigley Field tour and go into the Clubhouse?  It was as big as a Living Room with Lockers on either side.

They should video the visiting team seeing theirs for the first time.  Love to see their reactions.

Years ago I did and I couldn't believe how tiny it was. A state of the art clubhouse is what they needed 20-30 years ago.

49 pitches for Reds starter Alfredo Simon in the 1st.  Chased out after John Lackey hit an RBI single to put Cubs up 5-1.  And not a HR type of game so Lackey needs to throw strikes.

Heyward with 2 outs in the inning :(

Since they have been keeping records it appears 69 is the record for 1 inning.  Wade Davis of KC in 2013.
