The Chicago Cubs March to the 2016 World Series - Page 3

OMG I was flipping through the ESPN's and they are arguing that the Cubs were wrong to walk Bryant 7 times. That the fans pay to see these guys hit. And that idiot Bayless suggested that maybe after a 2nd walk they should get 2nd base. After the third they get 3rd. I couldn't believe this conversation. You don't want Harper walked then you get good hitter in front and behind him

As a paying fan I can say that everyone in the RF bleachers were glad Harper was walked. We paid to see the Cubs win and that's what we got

I'm pretty sure all the Cubs fan would much rather win the game.  What a stupid fucking comment from ESPN.
I mean I don't want to see Harper hit at all against us.

I hate rain outs. Suppose to be shitty next 2 days as well. Hope they get the games in

9 games up in the loss column on the Pirates-10 on the Cards
post #104 of 289
Drives me fucking crazy. Rainouts and Cubs days off are the worse. I don't know what to do with myself without my daily dose. I think that'll get the game in tonight.

I love Arrieta but he won't get a 7 year deal from the Cubs. That would take him to 39 at the end if it's not done before his free agency. Take 170 million. He wants the 210 Scherzer got. Those big deals rarely work. I'd love to know what the Cubs are offering.

Tough loss today but get a chance at redemption in a few

And of course Scherzer goes K happy. He still gives up too many HR for my liking for that money
post #107 of 289

Yeah, Cubs aren't giving him a 7 year deal.  That's insane.

Tough losses yesterday.  Esp because Lackey pitched awesome.  Soler needs to figure it out.  Man, he was really bad yesterday.

Oh well...Should be a great series this weekend!

Does he deserve less than Strasburg, who almost assuredly took a discount at 7/175? He's 30... right? So seven years, if you get five good years on the deal you gotta figure you're coming out ahead. 30 million won't seem like 30 million in 2021 anyway.

He's not a FA until 2018 or after the 2017 season --  When he's 32.

If Arrieta keeps putting up sub-2.00 eras I don't see how you can let him walk, even at 32.  Maybe they go like 5 years/160 million for him, which is still ridiculous but possibly the going rate for a top-3 pitcher.

And it's a good thing the Cubs are paying Heyward a billion dollars to not be the man, because he's really good at not being the man.

I'm very much a baseball tourist having only really started watching games on ESPN this year from the UK (I arbitrarily support the Marlins which seems to have been...a bad choice, this last month or so aside) but I thought you might find this take interesting on the Scherzer game.

http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/max-scherzers-20-strikeout-game-was-weirder-than-any-other/?ex_cid=538fb

The analysis supports the view that on balance, given the number of hits and home runs, it wasn't AS impressive a feat as other 15K + games, but it does make a really good point that overall he threw a very high number of strikes, suggesting a deliberately more aggresive strategy. I suppose the question is whether, across a season, the higher probability of strikes and scores is net beneficial or a handicap.

Right. But in the other hand he hit his highs in innings pitched and was gassed by the playoffs. I understand the Cubs want to take a wait and see approach. At least after this year we'll have a better understanding if he can handle the workload. Zero pressure for the Cubs to hurry and get this done.

Love the Pirates melting down over the Cubs. 19 games over after 35 is superb.

I'll be there again tomorrow. Hopefully they will get done early and win.

Cubs suck on Sunday. Saturday must be party night

Sorry to say, but maybe don't go to any playoff games, Anya.

Tip of the cap to cole. Pitched a great Gane and we almost pulled it out at the end. We took the series, so can't be too upset. I hate off days! Pirates players singing "No cubs no" after the game. Man, the cubs are in their head.

Whew. 3-5 days for Heyward. I was scared. Just a contusion aka a bruise.

Same.  I was checking twitter all damn day.

Tough game today and I was really hoping the Cubs would win last night.  That ump was terrible last night.  Brutal.

So nice beating the Cards. Defense let the team down and let the Carrs back in. Still a 5(maybe 6) game lead with Rizzoand Heyward struggling mightily.

Hopefully they get games in this weekend with the storms and all.
That's was a stressful 9 innings. I was about to go to dark places if they blew that game. So thank you to the baseball gods for that. Feels like Rizzo has been on the DL for a month. He'll get it going. How good as Zobrist been? My god he's a fucking machine.

Hendricks and Hammel really stepped up their game this year. They took the lack of trust Maddon had in them in the playoffs and decided to work harder in the offseason than ever before. They didn't pull a Sam Bradford and bitch about it.

20 games over .500 before June 1st. Now get to 30 over. Dont stop. 6.5 over the Pirates and 9.5 over the Cards.

The next 13 are LA, Ariz, Philly, and Braves. 10-3 is a legit possibility esp if they take 3/4 or better from the Dodgers.

And thanks to the Cubs for hitting early on a Sunday game when I'm not there. Not offended at all.

6 in a row. Hammel left after 2 due to a cramp/tight hammy. Doesn't sound serious and glad it wasn't his arm.

I believe the Dodgers not getting to Chicago till 3AM helped. Dodgers had to be tired but I'll take it.

It was a misplayed blop single away from a no-hitter.  The pen was great yesterday.

Lead back up to 7.5(8 in loss column) which is nice. Never want the Ali ages to get too close.

5 Cubs lead the All Star voting. Really 3 deserve it right now. But better than the dumb ESPN article that had no Cubs starting.

Hendricks....

Hendricks is why you get 100+ wins. Not many teams have a 5th starter worth a damn.

Can't wait till Sunday.

Another gem by a Cubs starter. They are really feeding off each other now.

And listening to the radio they were running off stats that had this Cubs team comprable to the Big Red Machine of the 70's and the 1939 Yankees. And as good as those Yankee teams were they only had to face 7 other teams. 3 were brutal, 2 average and 2 good teams. 2nd place team they were 8-11 vs.

I think the Reds team is the best team to compare them to. 4 WS appearances in 7 years and 2 titles.
And the offense still aren't clicking on all cylinders yet.

Rizzo and Heyward are showing signs of coming around. If those two get hot the Cubs will win 10+ in a row easy.

The Pirates are in a tough stretch right now. Angels(ok easy), Mets(their offense sucks though), @Col for 1 game, back home for Cards, @Mets, @Cubs, SF, Dodgers, @Seattle.

They are playing some of the top pitching teams in baseball. ATeams in first or 2nd. After the Angels its brutal, even at home. They aren't going to be that much over .500 if at all

The Cubs have a softer schedule esp the next 8. Cubs could easily be 15 up by June 13th when they hit their tough stretch of @wash, Pitt, STL.

And unless there is a big comeback the Cubs will be up 9.5 games, 10 in loss column

STL has a bit of a rough stretch as well plus their rivalry games are the Royals

That's 10-1 in the last 11. All these day game wins puts the pressure on the teams who play later. Though I don't know why you wouldn't play day games every Saturday and Sunday.

Go Angels.

Cubs almost pulled a White Sox there

1st 10 game lead since Sept of 2008. And it's only going to get bigger.

Shame if Soler is out a while. He was really starting to hit. Bring up Almora

Me too.  Been to 4 games the past 2 years and they've lost them all.

10 game lead and Pitt has a DH header today.

27 of the 38 players the Cubs drafted were pitchers. Some about right. 1 should be a stud.

I wanted the sweeps of the Braves/Phillies. At least they won the series and that's 6 series in a row.

The next stretch is huge. Nationals, Pirates, Cards with the latter 2 series at home. They can bury their divisional rivals.

Might not matter too much as the Pirates are injured. They were tanking before these injuries but losing Cervelli is huge. And if Cole is out a while they are toast.

Cubs got screwed today. Should have won it in 9 but the ump squeezed Rondon on 2 pitches. He later called the same pitches stikes to other batters. Not worried about the Nats at all. Even if they get past the Giants the Cubs will take them in 5

Pirates are 5-15 in their last 20 with a daunting schedule coming up after the Cubs that includes 8 at home with the Giants and Dodgers where they face the top 3 Giants starters and Kershaw. Then they still get Sea, STL, and the Cubs with only the A's to lighten the load. They could be at the bottom of the WC chase by the AS break.

And I love Arrieta but he has to get a hold of his control. He's getting to 100 pitches by the 5th or 6th. He's laboring too much.

Here's hoping to a 5/6 vs the division this week.

The Cubs depth is just amazing. Almorancomes up and crushes it. Then Contreras comes up and homers in first AB. These 2 will not be traded. Maybe Almora. I'd love to get som bullpen arms but not giving away our current MLB roster.

Last night was pretty magical.  That was a fun game and can't wait to watch Contreras first start tonight.

The Reds are the perfect cure for what ails you. Kris Bryant had the game of his young career yesterday. And today Joe Maddon got to live out his fantasy and had 3 pitchers in LF and switched pitchers/LFers based on match ups.

Cubs had a bad week. They are slightly injured and hit a slump in hitting. Despite all that they still are 10 games up in the division. The Giants and Nats are catching up for home field but I really don't care. Just make it.

Cubs need to trade for a stud bullpen arm. A closer would be great by ill take a 7th/8th inning man. 2 arms would be even better.

Hopefully they start to get back on track. Good thing is that the Cubs are basically at home till Aug 18 outside of a road series with the A's. The other away series are the Brewers and White Sox. Perfect time to get that lead back over 10'games. It's 8 &8.5 now.

Who would have guessed Hendricks with the 3rd best ERA in the NL.

Yeah I went. I knew Hamels would be tough and a probable loss. They didn't even try and work Hamels. He had like 87 pitches after 8 and should have completed the game but I guess they wanted their closer to get some work.

So we've got some top-notch left handed relief pitching...can you please send us some good prospects?

We've got plenty but you guys want Schwarber, Baez, or someone else off our main roster. The Cubs are still loaded with guys that could help you next year. Yanks just have to be realistic. No Schwarber, Baez, Contreras, or Almora Jr.

Wow. Cubs might be getting Chapman. Very conflicted. I hate his DV incident but at the same time and understand why Theo would do it. You can't let the Nats get him. Having Chapman, Rondon, Stroup would be deadly.
