We are about 2 weeks away from the start of the season and Spring Training just took a wacky turn.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/columnist/bob-nightengale/2016/03/18/adam-laroche-drake-laroche-kenny-williams/81993428/

If you haven't heard the story Adam LaRoach likes to have his son with him.  So much so he home schools him so his son can be with him during spring training and the regular season.  Last year his son was at 120/162 games.  He also is taking part in team drills during Spring training.  Apparently some White Sox players didn't want to confront LaRoach about it so they went to White Sox President Kenny Williams and asked him to deal with it.

Quote:

Certainly, if the White Sox wanted to scale back Drake’s presence, someone should have told LaRoche during the winter. It at least should have been addressed before spring training.

Instead, it wasn’t until Williams heard complaints, sat down with LaRoche, and told him to scale back his son’s presence in camp. He could still come to camp and be in the clubhouse, but perhaps just half the time. Certainly, not every day.

Well, after their heart-to-heart talk, nothing changed, according to multiple people in White Sox camp.

LaRoche kept bringing his son to the ballpark every day. This went on for at least three or four days. When Williams saw Drake on the field this week, in the middle of a practice drill, standing on the pitcher’s mound, he lost it.

Williams told LaRoche that was it. He violated the privilege. No more clubhouse access.

Williams later relented, and went back to his original request, simply asking LaRoche to cut his son’s clubhouse presence to about half of the time.

And White Sox players are going nuts over this.  The "team leader" Chris Sale publically vilified Kenny Williams and stated he doubted Free Agents would want to come here because of this mess.

CF Adam Eaton said they lost a leader in Drake LaRouch.  Seriously.

Outside of Jared Fogle I don't know anyone who would want a 14 year old boy in the locker room that much.  And he did it for 4 years in a row.

Now when the White Sox lose they will have an excuse all lined up.  It's a shame Sale didn't get this hot over the teams shitty fundamentals last year.

And now the Predictions

AL East

I'll go old fashioned with the Yankees and Red Sox at the top

AL Central

Royals and Tigers to fight it out

AL West

Tough call.  Astros and Angels are 1-2

The Tigers will miss out on a playoff spot

AL East

Mets and Nationals by default

AL Central

Cubs and Pirates with the Cards 3rd and out of the playoffs

AL West

Giants and Diamondbacks

Cubs vs Royals in the World Series.  Cubs win 4-2!

Bottom line: If LaRoach was hitting .300 with 30 bombs his son couldn't be in the clubhouse enough. When you're hitting .207 your kid has gotta scram.

Probably.  But then again it was the players who went to management.  LaRouch sounds like a weird dude so I wouldn't blame a player if he didn't want to confront him.  Especially if he was new.

It does seem odd how adamant he was that his son be there all the time. I would think it was quite strange if anyone else at my workplace had their kid there all the time. Hell, it would be strange if they had their kid there HALF the time as he was being allowed. Quite odd and a decision I feel like he (Larouche) will regret eventually.

After what I saw last season and this season in spring training, I'm finding it quite difficult to not get my hopes up for an MVP quality season from Carlos Correa. This kid is the real deal.

3(4 for the Rays/Jays) games in

-Padres haven't scored a run and have given up 25.

-Cards are 0-3

-Trevor Story is going nuts.  But you have to wonder if the Rockies made a mistake not waiting the 9 games to bring him up and get an extra year.

-Correa is raking.

The STL Cards have me wondering if everything will catch up to them this year.  They weren't scoring a ton last year and the pitching carried them.  Now they are weakened at both ends.  They next 3 series are against bums so we'll see if it was just a case of a great Pirates team or a sign of the end of their playoff run.

It's going to be a Pitt and Cubs battle for the Central.

Danks is pitching so chalk up another loss for the White Sox.

4 HR for the Atlanta and 4 wins in 21 games.  Yikes

Dee Gordon out 80 games for PEDs. Just thankful he got popped after the Marlins' 4-game sweep of the Dodgers.

What happened to the Astros?  It's one thing to be mediocre, but at 9 games under they are in the just plain bad territory.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday.

Team Pitching is 5.08 and team batting is avg - .238  OBP - .316 Slug -  .422

That's why.  lol

That's one of the all-time great Baseball brawls right there.

That punch was a K.O. Somewhere online someone already put Bautista head on the Mike Tyson game. Hilarious.

White Sox are 2-8 in last 10. Only winning on Chris Sale complete games. Figured they would come back to earth. No 5th starter, Latos who sucks, and a 2nd year starter. They should have been in rebuilding mode.

Anyone see the beer pyramid in Cleveland? Question I have is why in the world are they selling cans of beer? why are you giving fans weapons? An incident waiting to happen.

How could that be when they're in full on self destruct mode?

I thought the Rangers loss that started this skid was bad, but this is an all timer. Up 7-1 with one out and nobody on in the bottom of the 9th, lose 8-7 in the same frame.

Interesting stat. Since 2010 teams are now 5-2,810 when trailing by 6 entering B9. That's .0017 change to win. That's fucking insane.

Reinsdorf is very loyal(to a fault) but he has to fire Ventura. Your next 26 games will be against good teams or top 4 in division. If he is still in charge when they have their next home game he will be boo'd every time he shows his face. They have a legit managing option in Renteria. Take the leap before it gets ugly.

Not sure why the Mets thought they deserved a warning. Everyone knew it was on purpose so he earned the ejection.
Fire Ventura? Can we just lock him in a steel cage with Nolan Ryan instead?

I didn't even know the Sox had a 7-1 lead going into the bottom of the 9th.  Just watched the entire half inning on youtube and that, that was something.

I agree with Anya.  Have Renteria take over.  I always thought the Ventura thing was always strange because he had to be convinced to manage.  But then again I don't think it'll matter because of their starting staff after 1 and 2, and now their pen is suffering.

Nats fans are weak. I know it turned to a blow out but over half the stadium left in the 8th. Enjoy your first place team.

First big trade goes to the White Sox as they get Shields from the Padres. He's better than their 4/5 starters by a mile. They gave up 2 low level minor leagers which leads me to believe the market wasn't that big for him. Sox will only have to pay 27 million of remaining contract-assuming he doesn't opt out.

Padres really must have wanted him gone. To eat all that contract and not get much in return.

And Shields shits the bed. Steve Stone and his new broadcasting buddy are trying to calm the fanbase saying it's just 1 game but in reality they will be 6-20 in the last 26 and are in 4th place and after tonight wil be 1 under .500

Mets also make a trade. Kelly Johnson of Atlanta. They traded for him last year too. He won't help their anemic offense. Their pitching is legit but won't matter if they keep losing 3-1. If anyone gets Braun it might be them. Though Braun has a limited no trade clause and will only go to the West Coast.

5-20 in their last 25 :P  I wonder if any team has gone from winning 70% of their games in their first 30+ to winning 20% in their next 30+?

It isn't time to hit the panic button.  It's time to hit the big shiny red button.

Staples?

After hearing Bumgarner may do the HRvcontest it just turned into an event id actually watch. His AB's anyway. Though I hear his coach is against it fearing injury. That's nuts. He does it in BP all the time. I'd love to see a pitcher win this. Put Colon in it while your at it.

Can't believe still use the tomahawk chop chant/music. The Braves name makes no sense in Atlanta. The team is going to be shitty for a few years, to come up with some good will they should change their name.

Man just seeing the White Sox highlights and Ventura had his 3 hitter Vabrera sac bunt in the first fucking inning. Why in the world would you even consider that?

"I've been through it," Dykstra says. "I stuck the flag in f--king Mount Kilimanjaro, and I sunk to the depths of Death Valley, bro. I've been all the way up and all the way down. My story's crazy. Crazy story. But it's real."

But the teeth.

He hooks his index fingers into the corners of his mouth and pulls, spreading his lips wide apart.

Looks like someone left the gate to a fence wide open, the gap is so pronounced.

According to Dykstra, he got beat up in prison.

"They knocked all my teeth out," Dykstra says. "I [have] a big, huge lawsuit. I talked to my attorneys yesterday.

"They came into my cell. They did it in my cell in Los Angeles County. The guys got indicted. All the sheriffs, they all got arrested.

"The deputy who beat me up came into my cell whistling, 'Take Me Out to the Ballgame.'"

What?

"I'm not a p---y, either. Know what I mean? They arrested and indicted them, all the way up to the sheriff."

The AS game deciding home field is ridiculous. Just have it best record and be done with it. The guys who decide it are only AS because every team needs one.

I still love the sport, but the AS draws zero interest from me. It's just the middle of the darkest days of the sports year!

I would've watched Bumgarner in the HR derby though.

I know the Cubs desperately want to win a World Series, but at what cost? A real dark day for that organization.

I think you're kidding, but there's no team out there that has a roster with 25 saints on it.

That being said, the Yanks have the best left-handed reliever in baseball ready to trade...and he's a sweetheart in the clubhouse.  And he's signed for another two years at little money.  It'll only cost you all the prospects.  And hey, we'll throw in Carlos Beltran too, because I believe he's got some unfinished business in San Fran.

Yankees don't like the Giants farm system, so it's not gonna happen.

I'm hoping they can add some infield depth and swing a deal with the Mets to get Jose Reyes.

Leave it to the White Sox to sign a naming rights deal and get just about the worst one imaginable-Guaranteed Rate Field. It sounds like one of those. Wonder what the nickname will be. I've heard GARfield and G Spot.

These WC races are great. So many teams bunched up that I think we'll get a tie for the 2nd spot in one. Probably the AL.

Took my kids to the Mets game today.  I grew up a Mets fanatic (not surprising considering during the '86 season I was 11 and went to most of the home games), but in adulthood I only occasionally pay attention.  Took my daughter, then 8, last season and and she loved it. Today took both her and my 6-yr old son for the first time.  My wife stayed home, as she's a stinking, traitorous Yanks fan. Pfft.

Anyway, real good game, Mets beat the hell out of the Phillies 17-0. So good in fact that I'm a little concerned that my son may now have a false sense of what to expect from a ball game!  Certainly not expecting a final score disparity like that the next time I bring him to Citi Field.
