BATMAN V SUPERMAN post-release - Page 143

Ha ha that just happened. I thought y’all decided not to! I’ll pause. Nightmare just started.

You don't need to pause.

JUST YOU AND ME.

"BRUUUUUCE!  IT'S LOIS LAAAANE!  SHE'S THE KEEEEEY!!!

AM I TOO SOOOOON??  HWOOOAAAARGH GOD!!!!"

Do I actually have to buy the UE to do this with you?

Yeah, we're doing the UE.

I only watch the UE. And cool nooj. The bat mobile just appeared. Are you sure we shouldn’t stop for the uninitiated? Cuz I’m gonna laugh if we all start converting.

This batmobile chase is one I always found really boring.  It's both full AND empty.  So much incident and none of it matters.

The score during it really reminds me of the Matrix Revolutions at times.  The Zion battle?

The batmobile chase feels very Bayhemesque.

I finished the end half of Man of Steel and went immediately into this. It helped. Watching it like these are the modern Marvel versions of what we would’ve gotten during the 80’s/Frank Miller/Macho Posing era with their budget. And it’s working.

Turns out Justin Clark just happens to be watching this movie too to prepare his fiance for Justice League.

I told him we were watching it too and he said:

Quote:
Aw. Tell everybody i said what up, and, also fuck this movie worse than Zack Snyder fucked over Jimmy Olsen.

oh man, how hard I laughed in the theater that night when we see that FLAMING push-in towards SAD KAL after the senate explosion!!!

wa-waaaaaa...

I SEE YOU, FLEED!!!!

Not even that moment bothered me. This is weird. I’m enjoying it in its context, despite it not being my preferred take on the material.

nothing about this movie bothers me

everything is delightful

I went into it hoping for such things

The movie really does feel like Snyder having another pass at Watchmen.

I agree. His preferred version of tone is the Reagan era, which was silly when you look back.

I mean, WORKOUT MONTAGE!!!

settle in bruuuuuce

you're going to be standing in that heavy suit for quite a while!

The charm is how earnest it is in thinking it’s so badass. This is fun now. I wonder if it’d work on that shitty skwad movie.

I still find the photos of Martha Kent that Luthor tosses at Superman to be really distasteful.

I doubt it, since even that movie had no idea of what it was

at least batsup (the extended one, at least) really seems to know what it wants to be

heheheh

no one stays good in this world

can't wait for superman pleading to batman for a conversation, and then the moment batman gets in his face, he shoves him a football field away

Good point. It makes me wonder how different the reaction may have been had this been the theatrical version. Having a different preference in tone is one thing, but not making sense on top of it looks like it’s wholly incompetent.

I forget...

the detail about Scoot's wheelchair being lined with lead is NEVER brought up in the theatrical cut, right?

THAT'S SO WEIRD.  Because that really made Superman look like a dope!

And his reaction all the more silly.

he couldn't see it...

because he didn't want to see it...!

They should’ve had Superman plead more before returning the favor so that it his refusal to needlessly fight back buys Batman more time to scheme.
Ha ha ha oh my god he carried him like a deer! Like “They were hunters!” I never noticed!

still a really badass fight sequence

highlight of the movie

really well done, unlike that batmobile sequence

I realized this before, but his father’s last words being the dreaded MARTHA! have even more impact this time. The change in his arc occurs at that moment, rather than what most people attribute to the “Men are still good” moment, making the jump to Justice League seem less abrupt.
I love that cut/camera movement when the grenade goes off in the warehouse fight.

yeah, that's a fun touch

doomsday bootay
Sweet Lord you're actually doing it? Bless you all.

You have to watch Suicide Squad next otherwise nothing in Justice League will make sense.

I've been defending MoS and BvS for years and even I think Suicide Squad is a steaming pile of wasted opportunity.

In terms of big fantasy fight sequences in live-action movies gradually approaching DRAGON BALL Z...

...this movie does a really great job of it for that burst of action as Wonder Woman and Superman go up against Doomsday for a bit.  Possibly the best-executed take on it I've seen?  Not just boring neon energy blasts, but the physicality of these super-beings taking hits and getting dragged on the terrain.

And I'm actually not a fan of most attempts at superhero fights trying to mimic DRAGON BALL-ish silliness.

Thanks, Code!

‪I’m tellin you, if you threw this in a Stallone/Schwarzenegger/Seagal marathon, it works.

Snyder knows how to make fights fun, he just over indulges. But I see what you mean. The scale is portrayed differently.

It's funny.

He and Nolan seem at opposite ends on this.

Snyder doesn't seem all that interested in vehicular action sequences but really thrives in portraying 'superhuman' fisticuffs

vice versa for Nolan, overall

Double-directors are all the rage right now. Screw it, universe: pair up Nolan/Snyder and let the gates of Hell open.

It pleases me that you guys have a whole hour left of the movie.

but we're done...

You didn't live tweet the funeral and Batman threatening to brand Luthor and "the bell can't be unrung!" and split second of floating dirt and so on!

I’m not there yet. Kids! You thought this movie was long before, try it with numerous interruptions.

we are pickier about what we post about, I guess!

if only you'd joined us!

I get it now. Truly.

Is there no more Snyder moment than when Batman not only stabs a dude against a wall, but then comes back later to torture the dude with it?

What, in any other movie, would be a moment of sadism is meant to be this badass heroic instance.

I know it looks like I was fibbing with my comeback remark, but I really didn’t care for this when I saw it. Beyond the intro, warehouse fight and WW, I kinda loathed it. I recall watching the UE and being surprised how much it made more sense of it, but still residing on the negative side.

It’s nice to have a new perspective on it that isn’t built out of a sense of irony. Movies rarely have second chances that result in a change of heart, so it’s a nice find.
